  • Please learn how to pronounce M.E.D.I.C.I.. It's distracting.

  • Cynical but extremely smart guy! Check out the animated moderne intrepretaion of chapter 7: The mind of a leader animation series Machiavelli.

OR if you want to go deeper into the subject visit the modern leadership series: The mind of a leader Machiavelli.

  • i'm a homeless member of the "creative intelligentsia"... i'm pretty sure that guy can sell some of his books to eat food!

  • I need a donation as well.

  • Machiavelli is not a Machiavellian. He wrote The Prince while observing the ruthless behaviour of the powerful families such as the Madicis, the Borgians and the Vespuccis. He does not advocate anything. He is writing a book based on the reality of power. The book is politically distinctive and is ethically, emotionally detached.

  • Will donate a turd for the guy who regards the Iraq invasion as a 'Machiavellian strategy'. Seems the marine haircut is not coincidental.

  • Auld cropper thinks he be a expert Machiavellian scholar. Sadly his intellect matches his marine haircut. Sure wasn't he the very boy who regarded the invasion of Iraq as a 'strategy' worthy of Machiavelli himself.

  • Auld cropper thinks he be a expert Machiavellian scholar. Sadly his intellect matches his marine haircut. Sure wasn't he the very boy who regarded the invasion of Iraq as a 'strategy' worthy of Machiavelli himself. Maybe he thinks Iran's strengthened position in the region now is a good thing? Ah sure I'll be charitable and donate turd to dear deluded cropperboy here.

  • @jerrytomo Are you really throwing in an irrelevant "Marines are dumb" reference here? Am I missing something?

  • 3 years later not much has changed. Search for Voltaire on YT and all you get is pop-music. If you're looking for books without pictures, you should look outside YT. Librivox and Gutenberg are fine.

  • what did makaveli exactly do?

  • easy read? XD

i rad the original version , i is written almost in latin! good book though!

  • NEE-COE-LOW

  • wtf? you want money for reading a book online?

    retard.

  • Why would we donate money for something you have recited?? This book is not your work and it has been translated many times.. You don't deserve money when you plagerize

  • Comment removed

  • Im interested in why you say that

  • Very informative video.

  • Anyone who doesn't read Thoughts on Machiavelli by Leo Strauss has very little chance of understanding what M's enterprise was really about.

Also, the best translation of The Prince is by Leo Paul de Alvarez. The best of the Discourses on Livy is by Harvey C. Mansfield, though de Alvarez's upcoming translation of this will soon surpass it.

  • id like yo thank you for making this video, i enjoyed it, and it helped me do my essay!

  • I'm in an advanced history course, and your videos on The Prince really helped me out!

  • Whenever I am compelled to name a remarkable human being the first name which comes to my mind is Shakespeare.

I'm at a loss to explain how someone could admire anyone else more than him.

He is the ideal mix of both talent and work; talent being that which the Socratic method could never explain and work being self-explanatory.

  • You worship plagiarism.

  • uR god

  • great lucture thnx , it really helped me in ma political science class ...

  • Utah? i feel sorry for you. <3

  • 2pac shakur read this book when he was incarcerated R.I.P. 2PAC MAKAVELI SHAKUR

  • Why would anyone give a fuck about a dead failed pop singer, grow the fuck up dummy.

  • You're so funny! But, thanks for your review of the Prince. This is really helping me in my history class.

  • "Id like to ADMONISH you to send a contribution"

     Hahahah, fool

By definition i see why he used that word, but it is really out of context.

  • its Machiavelli not Makaveli. Makaveli was a rapper

  • i'm gonna donate a paper made cock

  • Very bad pronunciation. To bad the chaps hold on the English language is so slight. Medichee, Machiavelli not Maaakiavelli.. A is for apple.... And he needs money to get an education no doubt....

  • @arctree

If you're going to criticize someone on their "hold on the English language", make sure that your own spelling and grammar are not comparable to that of a poorly-trained chimp.

  • Did Machiavelli fake his or someone elses death?? coz i heard many people say that and i havent read the book yet.

  • Oh my God! You are a freaking idiot and deserve to be shot multiple times.

  • i know what you're talking about. many people do think that machiaveli faked his own death. i was one of them till i read the literature myself. pay no attention to these intellectual assholes here who lord their knowledge over others because of their own insecurities

  • dont try to appear more intelligent then you really are. just because you wear glasses doesnt make you an intellectual. i cant believe you want money for this crap. all you do is regurgitate; you offer no useful insight. gay.

  • @bighed84 If you want to make a point just bloody well make without adding the word "gay" so randomly. Don't be stupid to use the word gay in a derogatory term. What has homosexuality to do with anything here! GROW UP

  • i'm gonna donate a fart

  • Who the hell is Maskio? Do you mean Masaccio?

    Pronounced Masachio, by the way.

  • This drove me nuts while watching this.

    It is pronounced like Medeechee!

Though it is spelled Medici, we must look at where the family is from. Florence, ITALY.

  • what are you thinking, man?

i would never send you money, idiot.

  • you want me to send you money ha...ill give you a good tip to make money go prostitute you faggettt

  • america sounds like a machiavellian government..

  • lemme get this straight, you want us to pay you for reading a book?

  • this gay is here to missinform by revolving you with irrelevancy of the fact...you sperm drinker

  • Consult your dictionary, and look-up the word "admonish".

  • fuck you .cropper=youtube looser

  • yes, I give you a point, the book is somewhat idelogiacal but it is amoral, deceitful, and full cynical stuff like "The means will always be judged honorable, and will be praised by everyone". What if the means are not for the greater good of the people???;or if they are just a falsehood. You should read more about Socrates and Plato instead.

  • Machiavelli does not set up an ideal government for the average citizen. It's all about control and spin. The ends always justify the means.

  • Good video.

  • last comment is exactly why the prince is an amazing book/"ideology". "cynical" is exactly wrong.

  • you're just a cynical moron that talks too much.

  • ıןןǝʌɐɥɔɐɯ ǝqɐuuɐʍ ɐ sı ɥsnq

  • Viva la Borgia!

  • This fool drewd either got something against hiphop, black people, or 2pac. Maybe all three seeing as you gotta disrespect Pac like that when we know your white ass wouldnt say shit bout 2pac offline. So you can miss us wit your offline bullshit. And how do you say that Machiavelli has nothing to do wit Pac when Pac was influenced by Machiavelli? You just seem like you mad at the love that Pac gets and the influence of hiphop. 2pac brought people to Machiavelli who wouldnt know him otherwise.

  • you are petty "shortydeemac" why dont you bend over so pac can give you some lovin. you ignorant fuck

  • Machiavelli wrote this when he got out of jail. He was living on a farm in isolation. He studied much and questioned many things. His book The Prince took after his death and it is a brillant piece of work. A timeless masterpiece

  • @Sudan329 I agree, but at times it seems like he was sucking up to Lorenzo de Medici. Not that this is unexpected or even flawed, but it makes the Discourses a superior work.

  • RIP 2PAC

  • This has nothing to do with god damn tupac you Mulignan.

  • If u read the book he is talkn bout "The Prince", u would see that erthang that pac did was modeled off that book. This book is wut influenced his life.Check it out, you'll learn sum shit.

  • You're not telling my anything I don't already know. I was only commenting on the morons saying shit like "rip 2 pac" because this has nothing to do with tupac...

  • /FAIL

  • RIP 2PAC SHAKUR

  • This has nothing to do with fucking Tupac. Tupac simply read the book and bastardized Machiavelli's name.

  • Niccolo Machiavelli was a fucking failure. He wrote this while he was in jail as an offering trying to get back in good standing with the people who overthrew his people. The only thing about the prince that is remarkable is the idealism & how it has survived so long to become the cornerstone of western politics but as far as machiavelli himself outside of writing the prince he really didnt accomplish anything in his life & it was only many years later the writing became popular. Fuck his name.

  • Well fuck tupac then. That was my point, the idealism. The fact of the matter is tupac stole a preexisting idea and now when historians lecture on Machiavelli you dumbasses think "o shii my niga he be talkin bout tupac yo!". That was my point. And then didn't even spell it right. Not the black community thinks tupac was "makavelli" ... so fucking laughable.

  • Pretty genious idea from Tupac, right? THIS DOESN'T INCLUDE EVERY LISTENER but, most of 2Pac's listeners do not know who Machiavelli is..

  • HA! I just looked at your favorites! You look like a failure.. keep jacking off to youtube vids cause you obviously can't get a girl!

  • There is this saying that if individuals do not criticize you and do not display hatred towards u than u r doing something wrong.

  • Most sayings were created to keep people in line, like religion.

  • So you must live a successful life to write a successful book? Not to mention a historical, internationally known piece of writing.

  • "The Prince" has is not about an "Idealism." Its a guide to live your life by. Its a "How to" book for anyone in a leadership position, be it politics, business, or any orginization. Keep it in your back pocket!

  • exellent presentation

  • I agree with the earlier comment that a study of Machiavelli is incomplete without the Discourses on Livy, which is more idealistic but no less realistic and pessimistic than the Prince. It's about balance of power and how easily and almost inevitably defensive measures degenerate into imperial expansion, republican virtues into tyranny. Machiavelli wrote about things as they are, not as they ought to be, and brought Roman realism back to Western thought. Machiavelli IS politics.

  • I wonder how many different versions of The Prince there are?

  • Nukethewhale19986:

I would say countless version, yet look for the classics; Machiavelli and Hobbes, The great books of the western world collection. William Benton publisher.

  • its not pronounced Medici as you read it ci=chi

  • well he has been dead for some time so i don't think he will mind..

  • Maybe THEY would mind ! THE MEDICI FAMILY were behind incredible accomplishments in arts, sciences, and economic wealth..Most importantly the Renaissance in Italy... appointing artist such as Michelangelo and Leonardo DA Vinci to work for them. EXAMPLE; THE SISTINE CHAPELS Last Judgment is a result of Medici rule, ordered by POPE CLEMENT VII from the Medici family...But then again maybe is not important to pronounce historical names correctly.

  • can i send u money 4 reading to me!CAN U play guitar `i pay top dollar 4 that sh3t!

  • Then you are an even greater disgrace.

  • As disgraceful as one who posts their reply twice?

  • You got me there, you really disproved my point by noticing my accidental double post. You must be very wise.

  • Thanks.

  • A rather strange thing, I was not familiar with that if a person undergoes an accidental "double-post" it rationally makes him disgraceful.

  • Then you are an even greater disgrace.

  • And it's not like you can write english either...

  • "The Prince" in my belief is the greatest book ever written. Cropperb gives a through explantion to them, whilst leaving one slightly patronbized.

  • Here is a fundamental example of 2 idiots joining eachother in a comforting confrontation versus one of the world's greatest writer.

  • Bahoss:

In a way, I believe that learning from michiavelli will provide more ways of seen things around us than just for power.

    P.S. Greetings and Salutations.

  • I recommend The Teaching Company's "The Great Courses" lectures "Machiavelli in Context" by Wm R. Cook. "The Prince" in absence of "Discourses on Livy" is a work and man misunderstood.

  • Project Gutenberg has both the Prince and the

Discourses available free on the net.

  • At w [dot] librivox [dot] org you can audio versions of "The Prince" and TONS of other public domain books.

  • OH Utah thats Why. Ok never mind for sounding like and asshole before. You guys will get education systems one day :)

    Machiavelli you joke of life!

  • ad hominem much? ad locatium much? ru a dumb bastard?

  • Great video. Very informative. The Prince is truely a classic written by one of Italy's greatest men of the renaissance.
