AN IDEAL STRONGEST FORM OF DEMOCRACY INCLUDED (See Subchapter 3.1.2.1, Chapter 3, of Part One.).
Machiavelli is not a Machiavellian. He wrote The Prince while observing the ruthless behaviour of the powerful families such as the Madicis, the Borgians and the Vespuccis. He does not advocate anything. He is writing a book based on the reality of power. The book is politically distinctive and is ethically, emotionally detached.
Auld cropper thinks he be a expert Machiavellian scholar. Sadly his intellect matches his marine haircut. Sure wasn't he the very boy who regarded the invasion of Iraq as a 'strategy' worthy of Machiavelli himself.
Auld cropper thinks he be a expert Machiavellian scholar. Sadly his intellect matches his marine haircut. Ah sure I'll be charitable and donate turd to dear deluded cropperboy here.
3 years later not much has changed. Search for Voltaire on YT and all you get is pop-music. If you're looking for books without pictures, you should look outside YT. Librivox and Gutenberg are fine.
Why would we donate money for something you have recited?? This book is not your work and it has been translated many times.. You don't deserve money when you plagerize
Anyone who doesn't read Thoughts on Machiavelli by Leo Strauss has very little chance of understanding what M's enterprise was really about.
Also, the best translation of The Prince is by Leo Paul de Alvarez. The best of the Discourses on Livy is by Harvey C. Mansfield, though de Alvarez's upcoming translation of this will soon surpass it.
Very bad pronunciation. To bad the chaps hold on the English language is so slight. Medichee, Machiavelli not Maaakiavelli.. A is for apple.... And he needs money to get an education no doubt....
If you're going to criticize someone on their "hold on the English language", make sure that your own spelling and grammar are not comparable to that of a poorly-trained chimp.
i know what you're talking about. many people do think that machiaveli faked his own death. i was one of them till i read the literature myself. pay no attention to these intellectual assholes here who lord their knowledge over others because of their own insecurities
dont try to appear more intelligent then you really are. just because you wear glasses doesnt make you an intellectual. i cant believe you want money for this crap. all you do is regurgitate; you offer no useful insight. gay.
@bighed84 If you want to make a point just bloody well make without adding the word "gay" so randomly. Don't be stupid to use the word gay in a derogatory term. What has homosexuality to do with anything here! GROW UP
yes, I give you a point, the book is somewhat idelogiacal but it is amoral, deceitful, and full cynical stuff like "The means will always be judged honorable, and will be praised by everyone". What if the means are not for the greater good of the people???;or if they are just a falsehood. You should read more about Socrates and Plato instead.
This fool drewd either got something against hiphop, black people, or 2pac. Maybe all three seeing as you gotta disrespect Pac like that when we know your white ass wouldnt say shit bout 2pac offline. So you can miss us wit your offline bullshit. And how do you say that Machiavelli has nothing to do wit Pac when Pac was influenced by Machiavelli? You just seem like you mad at the love that Pac gets and the influence of hiphop. 2pac brought people to Machiavelli who wouldnt know him otherwise.
Machiavelli wrote this when he got out of jail. He was living on a farm in isolation. He studied much and questioned many things. His book The Prince took after his death and it is a brillant piece of work. A timeless masterpiece
@Sudan329 I agree, but at times it seems like he was sucking up to Lorenzo de Medici. Not that this is unexpected or even flawed, but it makes the Discourses a superior work.
If u read the book he is talkn bout "The Prince", u would see that erthang that pac did was modeled off that book. This book is wut influenced his life.Check it out, you'll learn sum shit.
You're not telling my anything I don't already know. I was only commenting on the morons saying shit like "rip 2 pac" because this has nothing to do with tupac...
Niccolo Machiavelli was a fucking failure. He wrote this while he was in jail as an offering trying to get back in good standing with the people who overthrew his people. The only thing about the prince that is remarkable is the idealism & how it has survived so long to become the cornerstone of western politics but as far as machiavelli himself outside of writing the prince he really didnt accomplish anything in his life & it was only many years later the writing became popular. Fuck his name.
Well fuck tupac then. That was my point, the idealism. The fact of the matter is tupac stole a preexisting idea and now when historians lecture on Machiavelli you dumbasses think "o shii my niga he be talkin bout tupac yo!". That was my point. And then didn't even spell it right. Not the black community thinks tupac was "makavelli" ... so fucking laughable.
"The Prince" has is not about an "Idealism." Its a guide to live your life by. Its a "How to" book for anyone in a leadership position, be it politics, business, or any orginization. Keep it in your back pocket!
I agree with the earlier comment that a study of Machiavelli is incomplete without the Discourses on Livy, which is more idealistic but no less realistic and pessimistic than the Prince. It's about balance of power and how easily and almost inevitably defensive measures degenerate into imperial expansion, republican virtues into tyranny. Machiavelli wrote about things as they are, not as they ought to be, and brought Roman realism back to Western thought. Machiavelli IS politics.
I would say countless version, yet look for the classics; Machiavelli and Hobbes, The great books of the western world collection. William Benton publisher.
Maybe THEY would mind ! THE MEDICI FAMILY were behind incredible accomplishments in arts, sciences, and economic wealth..Most importantly the Renaissance in Italy... appointing artist such as Michelangelo and Leonardo DA Vinci to work for them. EXAMPLE; THE SISTINE CHAPELS Last Judgment is a result of Medici rule, ordered by POPE CLEMENT VII from the Medici family...But then again maybe is not important to pronounce historical names correctly.

I recommend The Teaching Company's "The Great Courses" lectures "Machiavelli in Context" by Wm R. Cook. "The Prince" in absence of "Discourses on Livy" is a work and man misunderstood.

Whenever I am compelled to name a remarkable human being the first name which comes to my mind is Shakespeare.
I'm at a loss to explain how someone could admire anyone else more than him.
He is the ideal mix of both talent and work; talent being that which the Socratic method could never explain and work being self-explanatory.
