Mack is so much like our boy, sugar Ray. Almost identical coloring. Our boy is an ex Australian champ with champion American bloodlines. He is 16 months old now and the most amazing dog we have ever had. fiercely protective but also soooo affectionate. extremely intelligent but independent in thinking. We fell in love with the Akita breed the moment we were introduced to the breed. We would have nothing else now.
This video shows that re training an Akita is certainly possible.

What a great dog! He is so big and beautiful...so mellow and well-mannered too :) He seems like he'll have no problems at all with the test thanks to your training...hooray for successful rescues :)

Thank you! Yes, he is one amazing ambassador for his breed. I am hoping to include him on a runway fashion show! He's that good with people, situations and other dogs. Dream Doggie.I recently became a Victoria Stilwell trainer and non-aversive method training can now have a clear and loud voice. Victoria's new season airs on Animal Planet beginning Saturday, January 8th in the US. She tells me it's her best season yet! AKC CGC now allows harnesses for the test which makes this trainer happy!

Thank you! Yes, he is big...that head! Per Canine Good Citizen training, my suggestion...socialize, socialize, socialize! Begin Positive Method Only training on day one. I recommend Dr. Ian Dunbar's "Before and After Getting Your Puppy", Pat Miller's "Positive Perspectives", and my published articles found on my website. I recommend watching Victoria Stilwell on Animal Planet...and please don't let anyone tell you that you need to hurt your dog in order to train him. Not so. Have fun!

Kudos on your work in making Mack a good citizen. Either everyone is small in the video or he is one big boy that is for sure. I'm going to be a new male Akita daddy here in about 2 months or so, can you suggest any reading material to help me be a step ahead on working with my new boy to be a good citizen?
