I was at this show, was right behind fishman with joe Russo, who's the drummer for Furhur these days. It was different then, never will be the same. So glad to come across these vids!
WRONG on 2 counts, my friend.........1) Much cooler to take a ten- strip while yer still at the local asshole pub.......2) trey sane?? uh...not....he was never sane- one does not play arpeggios like that and be sane...but thanks for this early gig, this was a keeper
I think we must keep in mind the idea that 'Phish can never do this again' is partly because they are nowhere near a point in their respective lives where they can sit around and play all day. We've all heard it from the band themselves that Phish consumed them close to 100% of the time back then. I think if Trey practiced all of the scales presented in this Antelope he may be able to apply that and play at this level again, however.
one of these 3.0 shows, Trey is going to just go off unannounced and play with this kind of speed and intesity ...........I hope I am there. To me, they have shown flashes of the Phish I was raised on during my glory days in the 1990's but have yet to really hit their stride. All you youngins that don't know this yet, you will know when it happens. LOL...don't be upset....if you were there for this stuff you would know what I was talking about. I AM NOT KNOCKING PHISH 3.0 so save it!
I'm 34 now but back in my mid 20's I couldn't get enough Antelope! I needed my daily fix of Antelope! Nothing like a early 90's Phish show. They knew at this point how fucking great they were and was proving it every night! It was like a spaceship taking off when they stepped onstage. You better be buckled in cause Trey was taking off! I wish you younger cats could have experienced the energy of shows like this back then!
@erpmarlo13 I wish i could too. My first show was 8, and it was hands down the best time of my life. Youll see me at this summers shows, phish might not play like they did, but i have the energy, im ready to glow.
Its always great to see Phish during what is now considered to many as the early shows. Especially songs like this one which resonated with me many many too many moons ago and continue to today.
When you realize you are at the top of a mountain no longer at the local pub where a crazy jazz quartet is playing and you have just taken several hits of acid when suddenly you realize the only way to get down the mountain is to Run Like An Antelope Out Of Control.
I've looked around a bit and this is the best youtube vid for Antelope in my opinion - you get improvisation, Fishman in his Rec Specs phase, they're at their best!
this antelope is so different, very experimentative and great, please post more about your favorite shows/ antelopes and do it as a reply to my comment please, im in getting bored (for lack of a better word) of the few antelopes that i know. the more the merrier! so thanks
it seems silly to try to determine the best phish show, but worcester 93 new years is probably the best choice. There don't seem to be any videos of it on youtube.
That jam was amazing... Insane from about 6:15 through 8:00, then stops on a dime! These guys were and are one of the tightest bands I've ever known. Thanks for the post.
I remember being in 11th grade ,with 2 of my friends camping out in the parking lot of the Glensfalls Civic Center and being so excited to find out WE GOT FLOOR for this show needless to say , we got back home and were met by EXTREMELY angry parents who called out an apb on us. We were still able to go .
my eyes just well up, knowing that most bands could never hope to achieve this level of intensity. I think their entire career was about as intense as it gets. I always thought that it was better than the best band, they were hotter than hot as musicians, and they grooved together so well, it was more than this Phish fan could ever hope for!....that being said, I could REALLY go for a reunion right about now...
Glad he's retired that shirt.
