OOPS,, BIG MISTAKE,, This guy is using a metal 'toilet flange' as first choice,,, bad bad bad. Recommend using ABS PLASTIC only for 'closet flanges', as they never RUST OUT OF SIGHT. I have even seen a Santa Cruz plumber put a new metal repair flange over a completely rusted metal closet/ toilet flange !! Bonkers !! It too will Rust too soon, and out of sight. That planned obsel. practice should be stopped on all new and repair toilet jobs. fubar,,,
According to the plumbing code;all that is required for a toilet waste line is 3 inch. The floor flange that goes along with the 3 inch pipe is a 4 x3. There are many different types depending on the application. I have never ran 4 inch pipe for any toilet yet and I have been doing this work for 32 years. The cost is higher as well as you go up in size.Carpet has been put in many bathrooms in years gone by. Practical...probably not,but it is still installed. Wouldn't be my choice. Have a good day

4 inch was used many years ago,but that has since changed for the better. 3 inch is much easier to work with as well.
