  • I remember playing the albums over and over again when I was little. The voice, then the harmonies, the music .... and now 47, still a fan. A true fan, with a special love to both of them. For such great memories. It will be awesome when I get to join her in Heaven and sing with her in such a great choir that I know she is making such a great impact on. GOD called her home because, he needed her in it, I'm sure of that!

  • I pray you are now at peace and happy. You made this world so happy when you sang. Thank you for your gift and the beatiuful memories.

  • thanks Sisterlead. Karen was a beautiful person with a god given talent which is seriously missed.

  • clássico!

  • Grande tema da novela "Voltei pra você", de 1983 - dos personagens principais vividos por Cristina Mullins e Paulo Castelli (Pituca e Serelepe). Adoro a novela e esta canção!

  • It's quite impossible to listen to this song and not to cry, now she's an angel or a star in the sky that every night is shining to us... lovely, sweet and perfect Karen, i think my mother already knew Karen there in Heaven, i think there's only one language for everyone, they can undestand one each other perfectly, i'm sure about it. We miss you Kanen and i miss you so Mom. Kisses for both of you - from KIKO

  • she had cancer and passed away in the years 80.

  • @No1KCfan6

moron? moron is you and shut up.

  • Karen Carpenter was a beautiful and unique person, with a voice that to this day warms the soul, and although she passed away in 1983 she is missed still very much.

  • I've been a Carpenters fan since my early teens (1970) and this has to be one of my favorite songs. Saw her in concert in NJ summer of 1971 and even at the age of 14 I knew she had an amazing voice. She was still sitting behind the drums b/c she was uncomfortable performing in front of people. I didn't know which I envied more, her voice or her drumming talent. Miss her so.

  • @xolaurenox16

Love your comment about her drumming. My brother was the drummer in a band that opened for them in about 1972-73 time frame he was at first a little intimidated then ultimately had nothing but great respect and admiration for her amazing talents. I was privileged to meet her in Seattle when I was 15 and she was nothing but gracious, I miss her so. But I thank God for the music so her voice can live on.

  • A beutifull song sung by the only person who could sing this sort of melody R.I.P.Karen

  • Ofereço esta musica tão linda e romantica, a um anjo lindo que está morando no céu. O nome deste anjo que foi morando céu e deixou meu coração tão magoado, é Jacqueline Ruas.

  • what a song, i love so many of the carpenters songs and yes i remember them from way back in the 70s etc, but somehow this one just makes me hope that certain one. this is so beautiful and always will be!

  • Como esta musica me emociona, ofereço p/Jacque Ruas, meu eterno Anjo da Guarda.

  • I LOVE YOU CARPENTERS.

  • great voice

  • Musica linda e romantica dedicada a um anjo lindo que está morando no céu. Este anjo chama-se Jacqueline Ruas.

  • This God given voice has the clarity of a flawless diamond, we the beneficiaries

    are blessed.

  • ...great lead vocal but what's with the chorus in the background? Turns an intimate song into a porn video with too many involved. Let Karen sing solo, please.

  • @earcandy2008 "Dammit, who let the choir in the bedroom again?! We want to be ALONE! And what's with the echo? Are we making love in a warehouse?!" (I, too, much prefer Karen's much more intimate solo album version to this remix).

  • Karen sweetheart... i so love and miss you darling. we'll talk real soon O.K. baby

    J.J.D. P.S. I have not forgotten.

  • Wow...my favourite song from her. So sad and beautiful.

  • The best female voice ..EVER... So dreamy. Miss her so much.

  • Does anyone know which album this song appeared on?

  • @kqprof From their "Voice of the Heart" album released in 1983

  • @boychickjr what the heck are you talking about? Do you know anything? Karen Carpenter was one of the most beautiful women in the world. You either have glasses that are about 8" thick or you have a single digit IQ. Either way you should not be allowed to share your opinion for at least ten years.

  • @timmon385 Bless you for your comment. The Carpenters Greatest Hits was the first LP I ever owned (8th grade graduation), and I still have it. She was definitely one of the most beautiful people that God ever created, and we are blessed to still hear her music.

  • que bella cancion!

  • She was a wonderful singer. What a voice!

  • Forget whatever 'Grammys' they won...they were beyond 'Grammys'...way too young to be in the Smithsonian...but still...a national treasure!!!!...Tunesmith.

but each time when Karen singing " but then is then and now is now "

it always make me feel want to cry

  • ..and.....this song is so moving so romantic and....

    it gives me hope........

it is the best one lovesong by Carpenters...with Karen's amazing Voice and drums and Richards absolute fine timeless Arangements.

The admosphere, the sound, the tention, the feel of this Piece is just perfect

    for romance........

    THANK YOU CARPENTERS!

  • It was not really Karen who needed counceling, she was only overstressing her diet, cause it was on her hips all the time and she just could not stop the dieting, for every time she (we) stopped, it came back on twice as fast. She was a thinker and she had too much courage and tried the most dangerous things and finaly got herself into anorexia, but did not really know what it was.

That is about it. If only the showbiz-society would not have been what it is still, Karen would be here with us.

  • Her voice was never better...simply beautiful! It sometimes bothers me when she is remembered only for her terrible and tragic battle with anorexia instead of the magnificent voice she had. Thank you Karen and thank you Richard for the beautiful music.

  • We have our own version check it out.....

  • sung so sweetly by karen.

  • how I wish i was born when Karen is still alive.... :( too bad she is years dead even when I was born... I think I will love her forever.... :)

  • It's been so many years now, and as I sit and listen to this beautiful piece of music again, my eyes begin to tear and I fight back the pain of our loss in KC...God Bless

  • THE 80S THE BEST MUSIC !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jamais me cansarei de ouvir esta musica tão linda e romantica. Dedico a Jacqueline Ruas,um anjo lindo que está morando no céu. Dedico tb as minhas amigas do You tube. Espero que gostem.

  • @Waldir5264

Só sonho uma coisa na minha vida,ir no local onde vc está sepultada, derrar lagrimas de sangue por vc. Jacque meu luto por vc seras eterno. Jacque. bjs

  • i think this was the last song she ever recorded...this was in the fall of '82 a few months before she died in early '83...

  • The last song she ever recorded was the song NOW.

  • @sisterlead02 JUST WATCHED THE CARPENTERS STORY ON SKY TRUE MOVIES I JUST CRIED SHE HAD A LOVELY VOICE. HER SONG NOW CANT FIND ON YOU TUBE THANK YOU.dean.mackay@ntlworld.com

  • @sisterlead02 Yes, it was "Now." This is actually a re-recording of a song from her solo album. I prefer the solo version with simple piano accompaniment because Richard added too much "corn syrup" to this one, in my opinion, but I am happy he thought it worth re-recording so we have two different readings from Karen, both lovely.

  • @mybigbluetoad This was Karen's last hit song.

  • I always love this recording over her solo version....this is simply beautiful

  • Poignant and beautiful song.

  • karen sounds so very sweet here. dreamy song.

  • I prefer the original track from the unreleased solo album vs Richard's arrangement of this tune.

  • "Uh, I've got to get into a serious mood here!" [pulling on cheeks]

    She is/was MAGIC!

  • @richfincm at 0.07 , yep, richard said it was a "cheek tap dance" on the richardandkarencarpenter site. You know what i always thought it was? doves being released out of a cage or something like that!!!

  • SONG 5 STARS

  • I grew up knowing Karen personally, and though there are MANY MANY favorites I hold dear to my heart, this is one of my very favorites. Its also the ringtone for my boyfriend!! We truely lost one of Gods mpst precious gifts when she died. Ill never forget where I was when I heard it on the radio, or when my uncle, Bob Messenger - an original band member, as well as a pall bearer at Karens funeral, called me with the news. We truely lost Gods greatest gift!! Summer~

  • You were blessed to have known her, a beautfiul voice that can never be replicated! Your uncle was also a very talented man! - regards......Kathy

  • A amazing purity of tone and pitch, very likely the best female singer of all time.Mankind and music lovers have been blessed, a rich legacy of her music is our inheritence.God bless her soul.

  • WE still miss you Karen!

  • my aunt and richard and karen carpenter used to go to high school together...i wish i had met her.

  • After all these years I still miss her. She was such a tremendous talent. She and Richard were THE PERFECT musical duo.

  • exactly! lastalot* I agree:-) thát is the part I like most as well and it shows what kind of cute character Karen Carpenter really was.

Most of the times Funny, but funny faces always have problems to hide.

And Karen did have them, and that is so sad.

She only became 32 years of age.

And Wow, Youtube is keeping Karen alive for us Carpentersfans, young and old.

What an amazing channel this is for an amazing Singer Drummer.

r.i.p. Karen Carpenter **we love you.

    Thank you Richard Carpenter **

  • wonderful,wonderful,wonderful,wonderful,wonderful.......

  • ang galing talaga ng lola ko!!!

  • MARAVILHOSO !!!!!!

  • simply melody, but it's so touching...

  • When Karen sang this song, she just

put her whole heart into it. She never

    rushed a song. Simply beautiful.

  • her voice and songs are cure for boredom and give meaning to the word beauty

  • i speachable, she's so sweet like an angel, ...

  • I don't recall her saying she thought her songs were under par. She loved her album. It was the powers at be, at A&M records that didn't like it. They accused her of being a black chick...

  • i love the solo version more. That version unveils the pure voice of Karen

  • I agree - she sounds more present in the solo version of this track, more umph behind the delivery. I prefer it to the way Richard arranged this version.

  • I absolutely love this songs, and Karen too, of course !!!!

  • ..when karen records a song she sung it emotionally..and i can feel it in this song,,

    love yah karen!!

    miss yah!!!

  • Linda...emocionante...eternas saudades...

  • there is no better female voice

  • i love all karens songs she sang from the heart each and every time

  • I agree Rebecca. Karen always sang with your heart.

  • Ahh that Voice! Karen Carpenter has/had a One of a Kind Voice IMO. And it always touches my heart, truly always. This song is so sweet. I love the idea of 'we all have had past loves/what we thought were loves, but if we are lucky enough to have TRUE LOVE come into our Lives. We CAN make believe it's the first time we have ever share our minds/bodies and spirits w/someone else! To find that one true love would be a blessing from above, for those fortunate enough to have it always be thankful!

  • I like this version as well as the version on Karens solo album. That version sounds less bombastic and more in line with the lyrics. And her song is marvelous, it probably doesn't always need the extra mixing and stuff

  • I really prefer this version that was on the Solo album better- it had a rawer, cleaner sound. Richard was really overproducing stuff by the late 70s in the 80s. Karen didn't need all the choral backups and such. She could just sing with little accompanyment and own the song.

  • Well, how obvious this was the better version worthy of release when recorded, that she felt it needed an upgraded version, a version that did not sound empty and amateurish the way her solo recording was produced.

  • I have to disagree. I really dislike the way Richard arranged the later music with that horrid "Ok Choral" and all the flower flourishes and echo effects on Karen's voice. She sounds better with layered harmony and less of the musical flourishes.

  • Well, Karen did say in an article that she agreed this song plus the other songs in her solo project were below par, and agreed to the shelving of the album, and how great for her fans she decided to re-record it with a superior arrangement and a more polished and delicate vocal track.

  • Being partial to woodwinds, I prefer this more lush arrangement. To me, the other one sounds like Karen is rehearsing in a recital hall - somewhat cold and empty. That being said, this one might be a tad overproduced, but I still prefer it.

  • Considering how underproduced the solo version is, which if Karen was alive it would have never seen the light of day, it is easy to label this version overproduced after comparing both versions, when actually this version is perfectly arranged and performed compared to the simplistic and underdeveloped solo version.

  • I said a "tad" overproduced. I could do without some of the backing vocals. I like the orchestral arrangement very much.

  • Nothing wrong with saying that, considering how underproduced the solo take is, this version sounds so full and complete that is easy to label it "tad" or "little" anything compared to the original, when actually it is as perfect as it needs to be, absolutely a gorgeous version of the song with everything in it complementing and accenting Karen's lovely tones.

  • This is such a great song by KC. Every time I hear one of her songs, it brings back some wonderful memory when I was growing up during the 70's. Karen had the most perfect voice I swear it must have been hand built by God himself. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to hear all the songs KC sang. When I think of all the deaf who never got or will get that opportunity, it saddens my heart. Karen left us way to soon but at least she left us with some incredible songs and many wonderful memories.

  • Thank you for posting!!

I am today in my forties and this sog has accompanied my life since I was a teenager and it has propelled my life to better and better.

    Thank you Karen and Ricahrd!!

    Thank you for posting!

  • The way Karen sings, it's like she feels just the way I do. I hope he hears this message from us ...

  • They are from my hometown of New Haven Connecticut... They lived very near me ... What a wonderful talent .

  • i adore the sone we only just begun . it says a lot about who they are and where they came from

  • It's not the face or head that's important; it's what's in the head that's important. In Karen's case it's called brains and talent. Few can make such a claim.

  • Another imbecile blocked.

  • Well, your flat out stupidity and ignorance is hwat makes people like Karen do what they do, because instead of being supportive you do more damage with your ignorant superficial comments. She was never concerned with her face, it was her weight, so go spread your ignorant sexist hatred elsewhere, you dumbass.

  • Even though you mean well, why say anything at all about her face? Comments like that is what made what took place happen. She was gorgeous, period, nothing negative about it. The problem never was with her facial appearance, it was with her weight, and little remarks like yours is what in a psych level drove her to do what she did.

  • it is one of her best.

  • Holywells....ditto...

How I wish she had never left us.

  • Her body left us, but her beautiful memory and legacy will remain with us forever.

Rest in beauty and peace, K.C.

  • one of Karens best ever. If this dont bring tears to your eyes fo her beautiful singing of this song you just dont have feelings. What a loss without Karen. This song demonstrates Karens sweet voice and Heavenly quality. We miss you Karen and may you live with us always.

  • Linda música, marcou minha vida, fiquei chocado com sua morte, por anorexia. Coitada, sofreu bastante. Linda voz...

  • I find it very difficult to comment on perfection, but I shall try. SOFT, MOVING, AND BEAUTIFUL !!!! NO ONE, BUT NO ONE, WILL EVER COME CLOSE TO THIS VOICE.

  • Johnny Wilson & Bob Morrison, great writers - but again Karen's performance turns an ordinary song into something outstanding

  • Chill bumps every time...how I wish heaven were real.

  • Used to be the best Couples only song played at Downeys old Skate-O-Rama.

    Healing but sad song.

  • I'd just want to thank the one who posted this video I love karen so much and it's so good hearing her songs again!!

  • i love this song of the carpenters its one of my favourites.i wish i had the backing to put this on youtube too.becky

  • Thank you for putting all those wonderfull pictures there! Absolutely great! This version of Make Believe It's Your First Time is from the Album Voice Of the Heart. It is very moving and sounds more intense. Thank you for sharing.

  • This sensitive song is one of my most favourits... so pure and delicate. So romantic. In this world of harshness and wars, what would people be without romance.

It is said to be invented by spanish folk. They together with the French, brought romance to Europe and the rest of the world later.....Karen Carpenter...I am wishing for the world to finally discover your solo-album..in this year 2008 and beyond.

  • nice video here, i love this song its one of my all time faves by the carpenters, karen had such a beutiful voice so sad how she died

  • So sad that she sang about love so many times and never found it for herself...
