"MrHairyNutz' - imo the same applies when storing any gasoline engine - Drain entirely of fuel and add a few drops of oil directly into the cylinder bore and rotate 2 full rotations. That's just standard winter storage advice but its probably advice more suited to new zealand where i live. Maybe in warmer climates you wont need to drain the fuel etc, not sure about this bit tho :).
Hope this helps (since no-one bothered to answer your well written question :S)
"one thing you HAVE to remember is.....theses are engines, 2-stroke engines, and they need to be broke in. if your used to having a dirt bike or ATV you'll know what i'm talking about. 5 or 6 tanks of gas will brake it in."
Well for when i get mine, i will probably idle the first tank away, then run the next tank slightly rich pretty much just to get everything oiled up nice in its wee crankcase. Then I'd clean the sparkplug I've just fouled up with oil, and then just go nuts :P
As far as care for you brand new engine is concerned, i think that may be the best way. personal opinions tho :)
Why you dont have to run in a 2 stroke engine at all, its not a nitro did your run your lawn mower or weed whacker in??? ... just get it out the box do the last minuite build fule it up and away you go!!
you dont run a lawn mower in because its revs dont exeed 1000 lol, in an engine that relies on differing rpm to move it ill need running in although not in the same way as a nitro, on thi you simply run it on idle wheels on the floor to presure the con-rod
every engine needs running in, even new cars from the dealer need to be run in, just keep the revs low and limit you speed, couple of tanks and you done!
its called running in or breaking in, it means the same!
anyway, you need to break in a engine to make the piston and sleeve fit together right by slowly becoming looser, if you dont run the engine in and just thrash it out of the box then the piston and sleeve would become to loose to fast there fore decrecing engine proformance and engine life.

the only bad things i've heard about these are that they aren't as fast as the nitro's, but they have a hell of a lot more torque which means that they will do almost everything better, they can pull things faster, they can get up bigger hills, they can accelerate a little bit quicker (in scale) adn they are a lot cheaper to run.
Dont worry what Other`s say about The 5b They just wish They had one, Mine Is Gr8 & i`v never had a problem With it Evryone I talk to say`s that the 5b is One of the best hpi`s out ther.

I have some questions:
Let's say you wanna put it away for the winter
would you suggest running it tell the gas is gone or can it have it in there for 6 months?
And i was wondering do you have shops in utah that sells it as well as the parts?

bullshit they dont need running in there the same metals so it wont seize ass face
05cprout 2 years ago
i might never recover from such a harsh insult, read your manual, it clearly says run 1 tank on idle
madaboutrc 2 years ago
its only so they cant get claied aganst for a bad engine wich wont happen any way its just a sort of disclaimer i guess
