  • I wish there was a LOVE button!

  • Iggy...and the rest shall follow!!!!

  • the last great rock n roll band , Zepplin ,the who , the clash ...done rock and roll over

  • True punk is dead, the new stuff that's out is only a shell of what was... its only music and clothes and piercings now. No substance. No politico. No thought. No action. We were more than haircuts and leather. We were more than nipple cuffs and black nail polish. We were fighting for something. So-called punks today are the posers we use to beat the crap out of - and old punks are dying off, fading away, forgetting it all for the comforts of suburban life. So pathetic....

  • I'd do inappropriate things to Joe Strummer

  • We need this type of programing back on TV.

  • save us not the whales

  • This is as good today as when I saw it 30 years ago.

  • Awesome!

  • Green day are a Joke....

  • @mar10scorz Ty--okay tourists, picture frame--tickets here for the graffiti train!?

  • im 29 and i think they sound freaking awesome! wish there was more music like this in the mainstream now.

  • Fucking brilliant

  • 'SAW 'EM THREE TIMES. THERE WAS ALWAYS THE SENSE THAT THEY WERE DELIVERING THE HEADLINES, WHICH INCIDENTALLY WAS HOW THEY CAME ACROSS THEIR NAME.

  • Dude how cool is Paul Simonon

  • what's wrong with being a proud Marxist or Communist? This dumb American knows the state of the world and knows that Marx and Engles concept of the future has come to pass. What is truly remarkable about this song and songs off of Sandanista are the influences that provoked them. Songs like Maginificant 7 and Radio Clash were heavily influenced by the new Rap sound that was developing in New York. Long before Aerosmith banked off of African American culture, the Clash bridged the gap.

  • @helsista: You're on point!

  • Futura painting in the back...!D

  • joe strummer wasnt a communist you moron. You must come from the jo McCarthy school of politics, just because someone has a different view to you it doesnt make them a communist.

  • @crobert79 No, he was a communist, read anything about him, he was a proud Marxist

  • If this was a "commie song" there would be no song.

  • Great band, but I can't get past the commie lyrics anymore.

  • @rightarmofwyoming The Clash is punk rock, and a majority of Punk Rock is Anarchist. The words to radio clash has nothing that supports the communists. Pirate satellite in this songs is anarchist, no commies would ever allow that. Then he says cashing in on the Bill Of Rights, which is free speech, and that's not commie either. "Hands of law has sorted through my indentity", another reference to anarchy.

  • @rightarmofwyoming Dumb Americans think anything un-American is communist. Read a book or something. Stop watching NBC and educate yourself.

  • @BuckyKhronic Joe Strummer was an admitted, avowed communist. Read some interviews with him and educate yourself.

  • @rightarmofwyoming I dont need u to tell what Strummer was. U were talkin about this song not Strummer, or are you basically judging his work on his political views?

  • @rightarmofwyoming I think joe was anti politics in general but leaned towards the left as it was a more inclusive and social way of political thinking. I dont think he would agree with the control a communist state would demand at all. If you can educate me to the contrary I would take it on board, but hey if he was a communist who cares? Its only a mans political opinion the same as mine and yours. Keep it tuned to radio clash.

    Love and peace

  • @NRVERTAKEMEALIVE Joe Strummer would be a LIBERTARIAN today if he was around and saw what the "Liberal Left" have become. He just wanted truth and the left was the closest to the truth at that time.

    All the best to you...

  • @MsPsycho29 Nah, Joe would still be a leftist. He just wouldn't vote the phony "left" parties which are just as rightwinged as the rightwing.

  • @MsPsycho29 the clash were communist.

  • @xAxiom720x I still love their music though I wonder if they truly knew what they were talking about seeking communism?

  • @xAxiom720x Socialists not Communists

  • @MsPsycho29 I think your right he was on the left back then in opposition to Thatcher England and Reagan America, if he were around he'd be a libertarian

  • Wow!

    Saw them once.

    Strummer twice.

    This footage is incredible.

  • I think this is Clash version of a punk hip hop song..

  • The only band that ever mattered!

  • futura 2000!

  • sounds awesome

  • I have Paul Simonon's Ampeg head and bass cabinets and matching hot pink Clash road cases they bought from Mannys NYC that might be from this and the US tour shows...He sold it to me when he lived in LA while he was in Havana 3AM.....

  • @flippyflyer wanna sell them?

  • @15fargus hey there, maybe i do...message me with your contact info...best wishes

  • Clash were sincere in their revolution. Can't you hear it? Can't you see it? This is RADIO CLASH.... they made us think because they were thinking...

  • ....Billie Joe armstrong owe so much to Joe Strummer....above all about the lyrics...

  • STRATOSFERICO,UN MITO JOE UN NUMBER ONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • is that futura in the background doing graffiti?

  • @ckyraab1255 Yep, that's Futura 2000. Backdrop painting while on tour with The Clash was one of his first "legal" gigs.

  • yeah ghetto-ology

  • Comment removed

  • could someoneupload the studio version please?

  • @VolXrat its been up for ages...just do a search...

  • @VolXrat Go buy the fucking record

  • They made some cool studio albums, but man they suck live.

  • Love the drummers stage :)

    Damn I miss the Clash!

  • open every concert in2010 worldwide with

  • I don't know whether they're the best band of all time, but they're definitely the most fucking cool.

  • Love The Clash!! Forgot how sexy Joe Strummer was!

  • Please save us, not the whales.

  • But wasn't Nicky there and tryin!Get up Toppo

  • It was Nicky on the kit. He was in the throes of his heroin addiction by the time of this airing. It shows. He is off by about an eighth metre and Joe is trying to urge him to catch up. He was wiped out by the NY Bonds shows/partying night after night

  • is that futura spraypaintin in the background

  • Im lookin to see if its Lenny but I had allways thought it was Lee, Now I think your right! Holy shit its Futchy wit a fro...

  • Sure is, he did all the tour banners for them in the states. Then clash did an LP with him i think, or just a 12".

  • @AngerIsAGift2 I had a 3 or 4 song 45.

  • Nice one! Keep it vinyl all the way!

  • @JackWMS14 Speaking of vinyl: "Please Save Us Not The Whales" was etched into the blank space at the end of the Radio Clash remix 45

  • The 12" one? i picked that up on ebay the other day for £3, right old bargain.

i am a huge clash vinyl collector, expensive hobby haha.

  • @JackWMS14 See if it has the etching

  • Yeh it does 'Please Save Us' onf oneside, then 'Not The Whales' on the other.

    its a radio demo 12".

  • subjects been covered...Joe Fuckin Strummer yo, Clash Forever. Everybody Hold On Tight! - Check out Lee getting up on the back wall..oldschool!!

  • notice at the end no ones playing guitar

  • Notice there is no guitar sound either.

    Dumbfuck.

  • fuck u shit head, i said notice, not hey everybody, i know somethingu dont, wow ur a dumbfuck, cuntfag

  • Wow chill the fuck out you stupid cunt, i was jsut saying its fucking pointless to say no one is playong the guitar if theres no guitar sound, its like saying "HEY NOTICE NO ONES PLAYING THE DIDGERIDOO" Well of course no fucking one is playing it. Stfu dude.

  • and i said it because there is singing, bass and drums, but no guitar deaf cunt

  • Its still pretty fucking pointless, just like the didgeridoo thing.

  • much better than the studio version.

  • I'm 50 and saw the Clash twice - to say they were life changing gigs is an understatement. RIP Joe, you are still sorely missed. Thank God we had the Clash...Green Day and the Kaiser Chiefs are just very very very pale wannabes.

  • @tasscat ya know tasscat, I also saw The Clash twice, and agree wit all you say except the last sentence. Wgy so negative, I mean you can't fault anyone for at least trying. And yes, maybe those bands don't add up to a pile of cool beans to your old ears, but at least they are fighting the GOOD FIGHT and writing about issues that matter. So chill out and realize that The Clash influenced a lot of people in a lot of different ways. RIP Joe, RIP. And thank you.

  • @tasscat Why all these wickedness on green day??ok, The clash are history...but i think that green day are a great great band (listen "jesus of suburbia" or "Homecoming")....and also the lyrics are great...

  • Green Day has nothing to do with 'punk'. Anyone that was around when the Clash were still together, knows this. GD are huge commercial sell-outs, there is nothing political about them. GD is NOT a 'great' band and their lyrics are aimed at little kiddies. That being said, GD is a 3rd or 4th generation 'pop' band that does write decent, catchy little pop tunes, but in no way can they be mentioned in the same breath as the Clash. I bet you were not around when the original Clash were...right?

  • @kenhenburn yes, it's true, but surely i'm not of none generations that you are thinking (and no, i don't listen Avril Lavigne, Sum 41 or today's shit) what you have listened of Green day? 'cause to me "Insomniac" is a punk album, "Kerplunk" too; it is true that also they are changed in the years, as they have made the Clash and it doesn't seem me that "American Idiot" isn't a Political album, maybe you judge Green day without listened to them, I respect your ideas even if i don't agree...

  • @TheOmegalomaniac. thank you for the rebuttal. I don't hate Green Day, just don't think they should be mentioned in the same breath as the Clash. I own some GD CDs and have listened them and like them. I guess the politics of the 70's & 80's are different from now. Besides the Clash, there were also many other great 'punk' bands from the 70's, like the Stranglers, The Fall, Gang of Four...respectfully yours, kenhenburn

  • @kenhenburn I do agree, i was listening to green day since i was like seven and i have grown to love them. I wouldn't dare call them punk, but you gotta understand thats what their FANS labeled them as, not them. Yet, i started listening to the clash last year and like them ALOT better than green day.

  • @kenhenburn Bille Joe actually said thet they weren't punk, it's the fanbase and media that has called them punk. His biggest inspirations were different punk bands though.

  • @kenhenburn Billie Joe has Punk inspiration, but he actually denies that he's in a punk band. Their older stuff is actually more representative of rock, than pop. Actually the reason they seem like "Commercial sell-outs" is probably because he and his wife own a record label. Unfortunately "Corporate sell-outs" is the demographic for young people these days and the best way to sell is to get kids involved. Shame but true.

  • @kenhenburn Also, I'm fifteen and I love the Clash.

  • My nephew just deployed for Afghanistan and i had said to him ,i should have got u in too

the clash, because u think twice about this.[no call up]

  • @tasscat fuck off dickweed

  • @tasscat Being a Clash wannabe isnt the worst thing you can be.

  • Man this is one of my favorite clash songs. I was so surprised when I bought sandinista, my first thought was "HOLY SHIT THATS A LOT OF SONGS!"

  • the same thing i thought when i bought the london calling; and every song in this album is a jewel

  • ...save us from the whales!.....

  • Isn't it "Save us, not the whales"?

  • YES! You are right

  • Paul looks yummy!!!

  • So does Joe

  • as good as these videos are you should have seen them in concert. no words to explain how great a show they put on.

  • bastard!! haha, i would've done anything to see them when i could've

  • i find it interesting that some people think music cannot change the world. as a teenager i started listening to the clash. after listening to the words of their songs i decided to learn more about politics, inflation, dictatorships etc.... most kids listening to music were learing about issues in the world. kids listening to disco were shoving coke up their noses and burying their heads in the sand. ask bob geldof if music can change the world!

  • True, I know many people who were inspired to do great things by The Clash. Their music is very moving still. In fact the music is bigger than the truth. Like all rock stars it was show biz and all calculated for affect. The actual band and manager were obsessed with staying hip and it's unclear what beliefs they really had. The fans are the real heros. Ironically it was a "clash" of egos between Joe and Bob Geldof that prevented the Clash from playing Live Aid

  • Uneducated and mentioning FSLN as killers at the same time. The Contras in Nicaragua is klinging on the positive side of the scale. Now, really is it? Being fed up with propaganda and US support for The Contras, ok buy that out of ignorance. But please don't come and say that leftist ideology support suppression and murder of people, or that those musicians you refer to do it. It's done by pure madness by people that put's themself in the dictatorship chair under the veil of left ideology.

  • Now i dont know you, but you're probably a forty fifty something middle class american. Fucking right wing bastard

  • yea but it's our Generation that is doing nothing about what the Clash was conveying. So we might as well put our bell bottoms on,put that ABBA CD on and start doing coke. Get ready for the vaccines...

  • the same happened to me after listening to them.the clashes discography should be issued to everyone who turns into a teen lol

  • @brianpcurran totally agree!

  • @brianpcurran That was well said, I completely agree with you there. Unfortunately much of the popular music in my generation have a sleazy, materialistic attitude, which seems to be making youth ignorant of their history and issues in the world today. Though the words of Joe Strummer, John Lennon, Bob Marley and others, will definitely live on and be heard, and inspire similar works in today's underground.

  • @brianpcurran the only thing bob geldof has improved or changed is his bank account and your a fool if you think him or Bono actually give a toss about anything other than themselves, it's all a show, they have enough cash alone to bring any nation out of poverty..... its just publicity, they will be sitting in their 500 room mansions as i type, sipping wine and thinking how fucing clever they all are!! Joe was very different, he was the real deal... who lived a common life all his days !

  • @mrbassman25 right on!

  • @brianpcurran same i started listening to the clash about 4 months ago and they've totally changed my outlook on how to write songs and what to write them about....i'm aspiring to be the next Paul Simonon :L

  • @brianpcurran yeah but truth is no matter how great the clash were and they were fucking amazing the fact is that they just don't appeal to alot of people sadly and music can only change the world so much by opening the eyes of those who it appeals to and sadly theres alot of people who would rather listen to washed out love songs then the revolutionary clash and other politically and socially aware bands, so no matter how much the clash changed a generation or more it only goes so far

  • @brianpcurran I'm sure you know that, sadly, they won't have a clue who Bob Geldoff is. Thanks for reminding me of that great man and that indescribable event. Oh - and Joe Strummer and the Clash are the only ones who matter now. RIP Joe.

  • Joe Strummer giving one of the balliest preformances to be seen by the human eye.

  • mengel that is one of the dumbest comments ive ever seen. to say that music cant change anything is completely untrue. music inspires people to look for change. the 60s and 70s cant attest to that. music gives people something to hold on to, music can keep you going. and to say that art cannot change anything is just as false, artists all over the world are making art to get peoples attention to change society. the arts are our outlets for expression and are the best relief people can get

  • Love ths Track!!! This & Magnificent Seven are the Clash's 1st delve into the undeground Hip Hop scene that was big in NY at the time!!!

  • well that's a very close-minded view you have there. music and art very much have the power to change anything, they give the inspiration which is the fuel that encourages people to act and change.

  • piss off you Debbie Downer

  • Comment removed

  • Though they had a really broad musical spectrum, every Clash song is so distinctive and unmistakably theirs... Still the only band that matters.

  • who is on drums in this one?

  • I believe it's Nicky 'Topper' Headon, who was the Clash's longest serving drummer.

  • AMAZING, I love this track. And it's even better live!

This is some SERIOUSLY LEGENDARY footage here, THANKS!

  • RIP man you change lots of lifes including mine ! long live THE CLASH !!!

  • This is during their Sandinista tour when they played for a week in New York at Bond's Disco Casino in Times Square.

  • they played 17 shows in 15 days...

    crazy...

    -J

  • "they played 17 shows in 15 days..."

I was at the first Friday show. Just blind luck that the scalpers ticket I bought was from Ticketmaster, and that those tix got in and local ones did not. Wrote TIRC in April, performed it at Bonds, released the Single Nov 24, 1981. That would have been right about the time Topper went into ELL and recorded Rock the Casbah.

  • its punk.

    there aloud to be.

    lol.

  • amenn to that :)

  • your brain is out of tune. go listen to Britney Spears

  • You need to get your ass kicked

  • cant find the song new york what up any tips from the real crew

  • amazing. hard working, got it all going on

  • I like this song, this has alot of Hip Hop influence to it..

  • "Imperfectly perfect"? These guys were amazing musicians. Joe gives no "look at Mick at 2:40." He's mugging for the damn camera like he always did. :( WTF?
