You have to play within the system to get to Congress,white house,etc. Look at the history of the US of people that rebelled against the system and changed it. I think the theory that it's related to race is ridiculous. Both presidential candidates ran on the claim that they would be working to bring the parties together. Giving the republicans some of what they want is part of running a cohesive government and discouraging the party-line policies which divide the government and slow down the rate of doing anything at all.
