@Walrusii I think it's in 5/4. Still, shouldn't be hard. That is why I HATE it when audiences clap. They will always get out of time, and it makes it hard as a musician to play over them clapping out of time.
@brandonrosas - You shouldn't base a time signature on how it effects the totality of your "groove," but rather which basic note describes the groove the best. There is no reason to use a quarter note if everything in the song is based on the eighth note. So it would be distinguishing between 10/8 and 5/8. Since 10/8 wouldn't allow the groove to come full circle, and 20/8 WOULD allow but is just silly, 5/8 is the best answer.
I honestly think that if Thrice had released AI as a mix, rather than separating all the tracks, the record would've easily gone gold. These songs are amazing, it's just hard for the average listener to get into when the songs are segregated like they are.
yeah if you realize at the beginning of each one of the verses says, on the first one, "FATHER where do you go ? Its further than i can see" (for the daughter) and second verse says "DARLING why do you leave ? The North winds begin to blow" (for the wife). This is art, a total master piece.
It's easier to count this song in 10/4 or it would be one bar of 6 then one bar of 4.

"Father where do you go, so far out upon the sea,
and when are you coming home to me?"
"Darling why do you leave, as the north wind begins to blow?
Will you be coming home to me?"

For those of who who want to know, the time signature is 5/4.
EverydayAdventures 1 year ago 4
thanks, was wondering that somewhere far back in my mind
BlackToothArtisan 1 year ago
@EverydayAdventures no, its 4/4 with a bar of 6/4. The snare is not in the right spot for it to be 5/4
brandonrosas 1 year ago
@EverydayAdventures 10/4. I know it's splitting hairs but 5/4 time signature doesn't allow for the groove to come back around full circle.
brandonrosas 1 year ago
@brandonrosas i've always thought of it that way for this song. 10/4 makes sense

I absolutely can't get enough of this band, I don't understand why they're not more famous.
