  • Really love your voice , my name is Eugene , check me out on my channel , [ mrgeetarist ]

  • What a good band!!! Averything is great, arrengements, looks, lyrics, groove, everything!!

  • Portland Portland Portland. Did I mention Portland?

  • this song is BADASSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chyna is back, sounding great. They were on Jay Leno tonight. I missed their last texas tour ::(

If you've never seen them when they play with a full orchestra, do try to find a show you can get to.

  • I just saw their concert last night with Storm Large, it was fantastic. Do miss China though.

  • According to the band's website, China Forbes is recovering from throat surgery. Meanwhile, Storm Large and other prominent guest singers.

  • So is China Forbes no longer the lead singer of the group? I purchased tickets to see Pink Martini on Thursday night and they don't have anything saying there is a special guest. Some shows say there is a special guest "Storm Large" and others show other guests as well. I am wondering if China Forbes will be there.

  • China looks amazing here!

  • One of my favorite songs ever. Pink Martini is sooooo fantastic and talented!

  • Eugene you are an idiot!

  • are they rushing?

  • Yes, they do perform a great Bolero. No lyrics included. They are an band also, you know...or obviously you don't.

  • @ 333ANGELLOVE - she can sing , but put her futher in the back

she almost ruins it for me , tying to take over the song

  • that black chick can really sing...they should put her in the front.

  • @333ANGELLOVE - Who ist the black girl with this famous voice? I think, she is making the performance of this song absolutley great. This live-Version is much better than the normal version.

  • "Eugene" is a very beautiful name ! This song is good ! (sorry I'm french ^^)

  • Love this song...so fun!!!

  • I'm in love with China Forbes. I'm totally in love with that sexy, beautiful woman!!

  • One of my favorite groups but one of my least favorite songs of theirs. Check out Que Sera Sera!

  • @Rocketjay12 they do a great Bolero

  • @dreamwheasler do you mean,Brazil? I don't think there are lyrics to Bolero.

  • @Rocketjay12 it's a great bolero, but yes, the singer takes a rest

  • I`m famous!

  • They all look like a bunch of lawyer's and attorney's and legal assistants that never took to musicprofessionally until they made money coming out of their asses and fundedtheir own cause.....which was to play music as a vocation!! Classic case!.... Thereare tons of musicians like this out there that don't want to strugglewith barely making a living!!! So they get into a career that makes them theDOUGH and then they live their dream of being stars and touring all over the world!!!

  • Heard it... LOVED. It... this is just fun to listen to. Nothing revolutionnary, but this songs always makes me smile !

  • A really good example of true musicianship: Take a simple song and craft it into something like this. Brilliant :)

  • This is catchy. Great song.

  • I'm in love.

She seems realy cool, Eugene should kick himself

  • the percussion guy has this,"i can't believe I'm playing this gig on Letterman look on his face".

  • this lady is sexy

  • Excellent tune, although I am surprised that we didn't hear Eugene say, "You won't see me." (You might have had to have been alive in December of 1965, or shortly thereafter, to recognize the reference.)

  • Great music!!!!

  • back up singer is so great! She could steal the show!

  • back up singer is so great! She could of steal the show!

  • The female back-up singer is awesome.

  • I love this song...because my name is Eugene!!

  • I completely love this song

  • <3 pink martini!

  • beautiful - have just literally this second come across these guys! Amazing!

  • @ jazzeriah--Actually Thomas Lauderdale DOES play the piano like that. He's amazing. I have seen them live several times.

  • I love this song cause it tells a story that is realistic. Also, it tells something that not a lot of people would be willing to talk about. The music is really beautiful. In the end this is what music is all about. If it brings a smile to your face then it's all good.

  • Great rendition of this song!

  • I went to see them last weekend and I really enjoyed the concert.

  • Also, just note that no one actually plays piano flailing both arms around like that.

  • @jazzeriah Maybe if you had to play a song as much as Pink Martini has had to play this one, you would be looking for ways to make it more interesting as well.

As for the lyrics... maybe the point is that the "forgettable story" is actually quite so unremarkable? Personally, I love the banality of the lyrics... it contrasts well with the elaborate crescendos of the song.

  • @sighedeffects Well they were just intiroducing the song and album when this was recorded, number one, so they hadn't played it that much.

Besides which, this version was quite true to the recorded version. Very little difference.

  • They're amazing. Saw them at THE BEACON IN NYC Saturday night.

  • Not feelin' it.

  • This song has an instant groove and great chord changes, and what a great band. But the lyrics are absolutely horrendous and describe a completely forgettable story that I have no idea why anyone would want to recount to anyone. With a totally different set of lyrics, this song would be five-star.

  • Thank you for posting. This is great.

  • excellent group & song...so original !! cant wait to see them in November 2010 here in Connecticut !!! thanks PINK MARTINI !!!!

  • Eugene then Yolanda. Who's next? :D

  • i think this is the coolest way of picking up somebody :))

i mean, how many musicians would have the guts to do that with someone they really like?

  • HAHAHA the foot flung in the air at the very end

  • I wanna see them.....

  • Great beat ....lyrics :(

  • La verdad es que son buenísimos, ahora están en España y procuraré ir verles y difrutar.

  • Call me whatever... usually my musical Base is Punkrock and... I was searching for a complete Musical Difference in a Band which was worth it... Mature, Class, etc. ... Here you go ! Im a Fan !

  • making portland proud

  • I like you Cass

  • I remember when my mom and I were watching Letterman and this came on. The soggy paper towel thing made me ROLL! This song is so fucking funny... lyrics make me gag as well.

  • que chida musica....... PD: el bajista se parece a Carlos Slim =P

  • It's my favorite band and I got all their albums. Nowhere else you can find an so amazing mix of jazz, latino and hollywood-like music. 10/10 from me!

  • @Infuzibil so agree. I introduced them to my partner and he loves it!

  • @chinaahpek Gay?

  • @christlicker does it matter

  • @chinaahpek Apparently!

  • @christlicker gay??? mmm music, that´s all.

  • Love you Sweet Woman!

  • OMG it feels kinda weird to have her repeatedly say my name o_O. GAHHHH

  • i love pink martini and this song.

  • great show in Kuala Lumpur Monday 15th!!!!

  • i agree! they were awesome to have done an encore for us.... :-)

  • The Brazil song...simply put fire!!! wowowow

  • i love them i had the joy of seeing them live they were amazing!

  • i think she was nervous here..it must have been cause they were on lettermen because her is usually more relaxed.

  • their style is so relaxing that i wanna play them while i am making dinner or cleaning the house, love them!

  • @woshibancun I agree :) and do so

  • Absolute MUSIC

  • goodness gracious she is so sexy

  • @lukatme2 Yup. Excuse me whilst I keep the drool in my mouth.

  • Love this song, love Pink Martini. Yeah. Eugene, where are you?

  • This song creates such a lovely atmosphere, makes me happy instantly. Wonderful job done by true professionals. Impressive.

  • Well worth the ticket price if you can ever see Pink Martini. Be prepared to buy each and every CD too!

  • Brilliance!

  • @truedude30

They were on DL show, come and talk to people when you get yourself there once.

  • truedude...why are browsing Pink Martini videos if you hate them?

  • love this song <3<3

  • Sorry- a person can choose to like what they want to like- or not like it....doesn't really matter if it is good, bad, vapid- whatever. People have individual likes irregardless of what you say...sorry- it is just a fact. And I like the lead singer...oh well!

  • Just an opinion and opinions are neither right nor wrong.

  • truedude- I am so NOT cool. But is fine with me. Yes, this is very stylized. To make things ever worse, I LOVE when Pink Martini sings in Italian, french, spanish, chinese and portugese on other songs- they have a retro feeling that I personally like. The background singer is fantastic ( no doubt about it)...but here is something even worse- the song makes me smile. Sorry!

  • Arabic too

  • @lauraneville Absolutely correctamundo!

    AWESOME!FREAKIN AWESOME!

  • Good and fun song.

  • Criticism ( of an artistic medium) is not going to dictate what people like...historically this is true and is true today. Your opinion is not going to matter to people who enjoy their music. And again--why this need to dictate what people enjoy?

  • So what if someone likes this? So what if someone likes Ice Ice Baby? I do not want to get into an intellectual debate about music or artistic criticism when history shows how irrelevant the criticism might be ...I guess we should all just listen to whatever you deem acceptable!! Sorry- people are allowed to like what they like...whether it is good or bad...so what?

  • You cannot know how proud Portland is of their PInk Martini. I have tickets for NY Eve - 13th time I've seen them! We love our Pink Martini.

  • Hi, backup singer stealing the show!

  • you should be speach writer!

  • OREGON!

  • What is possibly wrong with people enjoying varying types of music? Good/not good/ revolutionary/vapid....who cares? As long as the music makes someone smile- what could possibly be wrong with that? I guess the Music Nazis are much like other Thought Nazis ( only believe what I tell you, have no opinion of your own...and oh yes- better adhere to the same religious beliefs that I dictate as well) This need to try to dictate what people enjoy is simply bizarre!

  • Arguing about music is kinda like arguing about religion...

  • No "music Nazis" here, nor do the "thought Nazis" prevail. Some music is simply horrible...ie Vanilla Ice, Poison, Norah Jones, Nickelback...Pink Martini. This is stuff for your 7 yo daughter. An elevator classic. Or perhaps a soundtrack for that video you made out of your pictures from Costa Rica (CR is a dumb vacation idea btw). Lots of energy, ambitious, but ultimately vapid, formulaic, and the lyrics are awful. I mean really? The background singer BLOWS her out of the water. Really?

  • @lauraneville

    Here, here! :)

  • @lauraneville WELL SAID!

  • @lauraneville that was well thought out

  • @lauraneville Smile, cry, laugh, want to break someone's neck...as long as it's doing something to ya

  • I'm Eugene, I love this song:)

  • this is in response to truedude30! I used to think like you! those bands you mentioned a great but i think you need to expand your mind and look or "listen" outside the box. You say PM has no soul or heart, thats exactly what they have!!! and precisely what you are lacking. I used to be a progressive metal guitarist and now I play flamenco world fusion. my band opened up for them in 1998. Live a little

  • Is that China Forbes? Goodness, she's larger than I thought.

  • are you a RETARD????

obviously you are. when you start making music like Pink Martini THEN you can even look at them. you wanker

  • attention whore

  • Great song, a real grower. I love the lyrical premise and the syncopated lead-in to the chorus.

  • omg, look at that ---> 3:22

    that was sooo gay... hahaha

    look at his leg xD

  • Szymonozimek, I thought that little flip at the end added to the legend that is Tom Lauderdale.

  • yeah that pianist was a little wacky playing the piano like that

  • I swear this is a spin off of "You're all I need to get by" by Marvin Gaye and Tammy.

  • @titan1213

You're spot on about that......all I need to get by.....how does anyone write a "new" tune? "If it ain't baroque, fix it".....

  • What a beautiful, feel good song - I love it!

  • We just saw them (for the second time) in Tucson AZ last night. China is looking great after having her baby 7 months ago. They were full of energy and put on an awsome show. Love that trumpet player!

  • I saw them last Saturday at the Hollywood Bowl! They're awesome! Second time I saw them (saw them 2 years ago at the Bowl) and they just keep getting better!

  • thats a good point.kind of like the bands that play on monday night in the clubs and there is 4 of them

  • Comment removed

  • i saw them live yesterday and they performed this. loved it

  • I would like to know with the amount of band members how they make any money.

  • Well they sold out the Hollywood Bowl this weekend and have sold a few million records so I suppose that helps.

  • I like them, but can't believe they sell millions of records, very few artist sell that amount apart from U2 Jz Coldplay. In the UK I would be suprised if they sold more than a few thousand of each album.

  • Don't think they're in it for the money.

  • Obviously not, else they wouldn't have has many band members.

  • simply amazing!

  • QUITE POSSIBLY THE BEST SONG IVE HEARD IN A LONG TIME!!!

My name is Eugene... and I dont think there has EVER been a pop-culture song with my (our) name in the title (let alone, the main verse!)

I am in love with this band now. Gorgeous Glamazon lead-singer, full orchestra, sassy black back-up singer, tickled ivory, chillaxing bass and drums, subtle brass and thrumming strings!

LOVE IT! It is now my new ring-tone and voicemail!

LONG LIVE EUGENES!!! Thank you Pink Martini!

  • Are the lyrics supposed to be blocky?

  • Yes, on the paper you'd see an extra little bar just for that extra little bit.

  • heeft ze hem weer gevonden .....peace to allllll

  • Pink Martini in concert is something you don't want to miss. Search their website for their schedule.

  • Don't they teach singers to breath through their nose these days??

  • Her nose looks too thin to breath through tbh

  • u dont know anything

  • very childish response

if you don't like my comment then that's your problem

  • WTF My name is Eugene o_O

  • Comment removed

  • The background singer should swap places with the foreground singer, hihi :-)

  • Lol, well observed- absolutely spot on imo too!

  • I admire this woman so much, so inspiring and classy.

  • This is good, but their performance of Hey Eugene in Burlington, Vermont last week was even better!

  • Brilliant performance!. thanks for sharing!

  • I agree

  • It's so smooth!

  • u guys are posers my friend has more balls than any of you guys!!!!

  • Thanks, writergal49, I assumed there was a goodly helping of humour therein. Haven't been to Eugene, OR (of course have heard of it) wonder if it would feel like coming home, being from the high Northeast, the weather can't be much worse there than here (Newfoundland). Cheers.

  • Her eyes. Wow

  • hello every one.

    eugene here.

  • Hahahaha, you belong to very select group of people that have a song with his o her name in this case Eugene...

  • Ms. Forbes' femaie background singer is out-singing her.

  • You got that right. Elise

  • yah, i thought so too. amazing background singer...does she ever sing front?

  • I'm pretty sure she does in Pink Martini's upcoming albums. They have a new one coming out in October I believe, and they've already started another one. When I saw them perform their new songs she was singing front.
