  • Thank you for supporting those who were in an abusive atmosphere and creating hope for those who continue to be in the same situation. This abuse is not a rare occurence and a widespread issue all over the middle east. Just go to youtube and search for "maid abuses in the middle east" and you know this is not just a rare occurence.

  • Stallion816 ___ No it is not ISLAM no religion in this world would encourage abuse but some sick ppl do that regardless of the religion and whether they are religous or if they don't have a religion at all ???????/ we are HUMAN we should be treated as HUMAN !!

  • Nice wat she's doing!!!....... N the reporter guy was cute!;)

  • Its not Dubai..... Its Islam...

  • Roxana has learned never to express an opinion. As can be seen, spouse abuse is a complex subject. To be of support, listen with compassion. Remember, it is usually quite difficult for a victim to talk about what has been happening to her. Your goal should be to strengthen the victim as she deals with the situation at her own pace. Some battered women may need to seek assistance from the authorities. At times, a point of crisis— read in color watchtowerdotorg type search women abuse

  • demeaning names," Roxana confides. "He says: 'You didn't even finish school. How could you care for the children without me? You're a lazy, hopeless mother. Do you imagine that the authorities would let you keep the children if you left me?'"

Roxana's husband maintains his control by keeping a tight rein on money. He does not allow her to use the car, and he calls throughout the day to check on what she is doing. If she expresses a preference, he throws a fit of rage. As a result

  • WHAT can be done to help women who are victims of violence? First, one has to understand what they are going through. Often the harm inflicted by batterers is more than physical. Verbal threats and intimidation are usually involved, so that the victim is made to feel worthless and helpless.

Consider Roxana, whose story was recounted in the opening article. Sometimes her husband uses words as weapons. "He calls me demeaning names," Roxana confides. "He says: 'You didn't even

  • Arab women need to get them a Black American woman friend, Im sorry but 95%Black American women would never aloud a man to hit on them. I seen a man get his ass kick thinking he had the upper hand on his Black American woman, it was too funny it was like watching Jerry Springer show. LOL!

  • @MsCuriousCat Yea but in America you don't get killed for attacking your man xD

  • And I don't blame her 4 not wanting her business 2 become united with the government who may want 2 shut her down or demand that she give out the names & addresses of these abused women. That could place them in more danger & she knows this...smart woman.

But on another note...I believe that she should get a license 2 run her business though B4 the law comes & throws them out in the middle of the night.

  • I respect this woman for the effort that she's going through with helping the other woman who need her.

  • very good work

  • I choose to focus on the good work that Sharla is doing. It is sad that her shelter is needed, but inspirational that it exists. Keep up the good work, Sharla!

  • Dear ALL,

Kindly note my comment below on this video was to AL Jazeera International (a bias news channel) only. No TOM, DICK OR HARRY has been requested to comment.

  • A small spark between U.S.A and Iran can easily destroy your so called economic boom.

  • I suggest that you visit U.S.A and India to learn humanitarian values

  • Improve your country's humanitarian issues first before commenting on others.

You ppl leave your country just for Rs.1; huh

  • God is great. Now your turn is up to leave your UAE for AED1. Hahahahaha. Do you have any clue about your country's current finacial situation?

  • Please don't forget that the economic boom in your country is just because of 9/11. The foreign investments started flowing only after 9/11.

  • My Name is Michael, an Indian by birth and currently holding American Citizenship. With reference to the comment on Indians, leave the rest and just take 10 Indians like Mr. Lakshmi Mittal, Ambani Brothers, TATA, Brila, Mr. Asim Premji and etc.. If they combine, they could easily buy the entire U.A.E. contd..

  • If those ppl who've mentioned above have the guts to buy the entire country then I bet you. :)

  • Why is Al Jazeera International so much against the Emaratis, it is cause of some Qatari Nationalist who are against & envy the growth of UAE specially Dubai (the city of GOLD).

  • So you are not aganist the ill treatment of women in youre countries ? This problem is endemic with the middle eastern countries and it needs to be stopped.

  • Al Jazeera needs to see Qatar internal issues first before pointing finger on UAE. All Emaratis understand the propaganda that Al Jazeera is trying to play but has failed at all times. Dubai has made it's image & status at a peak where Qatar will take centuries to reach.

And you my friend Vikram needs to look at your countries (India) issues first, before replying to my comment as you are a outsider & your country is depended on us for several things.

  • My comment was about the middle east in general. But thanks for showing the world how low you really think. Unlike your country where everything needs to be imported from outside we survive on our own. You are more dependant on the world because you guys cant do anything without importing the knowhow. You doctors, lawyers, cars, trucks, buses technology all comes from abroad.

  • You may be rich but will never be the richest, you are too small of a country to make any sought of impact. Go check forbes to see how many emiratis are on the billioinaires list, there are more Indians on that list. rely on your oil, lets see how long you stay that way.

  • hahahaha...... Some ppl try to think beyound their limits but you should atleast your common sense; You're comparing a country of more than 1 billion to a few millions. Always compare/relate your country with China.

If I've hurted you by any chance, kindly accept my apology.

  • Whether you are from Dubai or from Riyadh, the rest of the world looks at you the same, backward and notoriously orthodox with too many petro dollars to spend. The question is do you rely on your foreign built tall buildings and fancy cars from europe ? or a change in attitude from within to make the world see you differently.

  • Your country have only 36 years of history however we have more than 2000 Years. Your grand parents were sailing to India to have good foods and commodities. They had only the fish from Arabian Sea and Dates for living.

  • are you from the USA? so explain me how the USA could have a history more than 2000 years!? America was discovered just 500 years ago!

  • Hi, Saifaldin, Thank you for your query. Please do read all my comments which

clearly states that I am an Indian by birth and currently holding US citizenship. So I was talking about Indian History.

  • Mousa, like most arab countries and medias the media can criticize other countries and other governments but if they criticized their own govt and country then they'll be rounded up and tortured and maybe even worse. When did we arabs ever have freedom of speech or freedom of press?? And yes Aljazeera is a biased piece of shit.

  • Thx for your comments & understanding :)

  • Don't be over proud of yourself. Don't forget the lesson that the Kuwaitis learned. A small spark between Iran and U.S.A can totally destroy your so called economic boom.

  • good effort
