  • This year I found many volunteer tomato plants growing. I separated them and replanted them. They are growing well. I am waiting to see what kind of tomatoes they produce.

  • @erra404 That's an excellent idea. I hope you are pleasantly surprised at what kind of tomatoes you get to eat.

  • lol i was a little freaked out when i first saw the title

  • @mshrum555 Haha

  • Wow we are also growing Tomatoes and a Variety of Different ones Too :-)

  • Great video. I've never tried it because I just assumed they would revert to some other type like apples etc. Thinking about it I should have known better because I used to see loads of healthy tomato plants in the spoil heaps at the back of a local sewage works (not something to think about too long!!)

  • E-GAD!!! i remember you i loved watching your in the past. You are the one with the big black compost bin, and at the bottom is a opening and you take a shovel and scoop it out, and the one that popped a cherry in your mouth and said DELICIOUS. Wow i found you again. subscribed

  • @Wizechris1 LOL! yes that's me, thanks for subscribing.

  • You've done a great job to have grown such a high yielding crop in the relatively small pots. It goes to show what everyone could do on their balcony or patio. Just need the sun!

  • Wow those tomato plants are beautiful!!! and I save my seeds too....way better =) And true it's not that hard and gives you better plants cuz you choose from year to year the best, biggest tomatoes =)

  • thanks this vid was very helpfull

  • love tomatoes..

    thanks for sharing..

  • Beautiful tomatoes! So big and so many!

  • Thanks - they keep bashing me on the head whenever I go in the greenhouse now, as I never stop them at 5 trusses!

  • Charlie the Talking Budgie video !

hello you video are very good and your a nice bloke ! love the Charlie Video its a great shame that they dont live long! lovely birds our Budgie was called Bobby ! keep up the great video's

  • A few years ago I found a tomato that I really liked. I dried the seeds as you did, except I left them attached to the paper towel so they would be easier to keep up with. In spring I pulled them off the paper, or not, and planted them in containers I could put out in the morning and bring in at evening. When they got a little size I planted them in my garden. I grew tomatoes from those first seeds for the next three years! Thank you for taking the time to share the info. I enjoy your videos!

  • Maybe you could just set them 'paper et all' like a carpet?

  • just for some info for anyone whos ever suffered from fungal infections, and diseases which seem to thrive in the uk (in my experience when plants get real wet alot of the time too, last year was a washout) theres products such as trichoderma and plant magic which protect against fungal diseases, if willing to spend the money you can actually make it last ages as you can multiply it like yeast (think homebrewing yeast starters)

good luck all hope this isnt too "spammy" :)

  • Beautiful garden, Frank. Wow!

  • Hey Frank,

Good to see you back in action in your garden!!

  • What a lovely crop of tomatoes Frank! Here in Perth, WA, and the most other parts of Australia, I presume, you don't need a greenhouse to grow tomatoes.

You can just put them into your garden bed or a large pot and put stakes in when they start to grow, and apart from treating for pests, and watering - your away! Our Summer does the rest.

  • We can grow them outside over here too. It's better to not pinch out the side shoots when growing outdoors, that way they will bush up and be more sturdy plants.

  • Ohhhh, your cherry tomatoe looks yummie!!!!

    Love your vegitable garden. :)

  • great looking tomatos there, also i heard that the jelly the seeds are coated in protects them from germinating, so you will need to get all that off, i tend to dry with kitchen paper, then soak for 15 mins in water, then dry completely.

i find the big problem with growing in the uk is the weather, you cant really grow much without a greenhouse, whatever the size of one :)

  • Yes, except in really sunny seasons, a greenhouse give a bigger yield. The jelly thing I am sceptical about.

  • Wonderful tomatoes you have!

  • Wish you could taste them!

  • I think they're tasteful!

  • Thanks Frank!

  • You're welcome!

  • You are awesome Frank! Thanks for sharing this. We always save our squash (pumpkin, summer, etc.) seeds, but we may have to try for the tomato seeds this year! You really look at seeds in your food differently when you think how much can come from just one of them.

  • I don't know about 'awesome' LOL, but yes there really is something about growing your own seed in your own homemade compost and watered with rainwater collected in a barrel from the house roof!

  • Your tomatoes look yummy! I never got around to growing my own this summer. Hopefully I will next summer and I'll give your seed idea a try! I always enjoy your videos!!

  • They are the sweetest variety I have ever tasted! Good luck with your seeds.

  • Great to see a new video from you :D I find these interesting, I don't grow anything myself but I like good whole food.

  • Thanks Andy, you can grow your own tomatoes in a tub in any small sunny space you may have.

  • They look great...wondering if you could send some down here :)))) I love NATURAL tomatoes, I can smell them and distinguish them from the artificial ones.

  • Hmmm... if I sent you some, they probably would not look or taste very good by the time they got to you, LOL!

  • Hi Frank, your tomatoes are beautiful! I am glad yours did well this year. Mine didn't do well at all. Neither has my neighbors tomatoes. I finally got 5 cherry tomatoes two days ago! By this time I should have had a good amount.

  • Hi Robyn, sorry to hear about your poor harvest. The weather has been very wet this summer so far over here, and I know people that have lost all their tomatoes to blight this year - a horrible disease that seems to thrive in damp conditions.

  • Going to give this a go this year too and not just with my toms, but most of my herbs and the broccoli too!

  • I wish you well with the seed saving Gary, and like I said in the video, it's not that hard. I have a good success rate with coriander seed too - very easy to save and germinate your own seed, and it's interesting to boot!
