It began as a depression about 30m wide in the beach. Water was bubbling in the middle of it and it quickly expanded to the dunes and started to devour small trees and vast quantities of sand. By Monday afternoon it had expanded to a reported 200m in diameter.Yesterday, its march up the beach appeared to have halted – for the time being at least.
