  • Scoring a 16 on the ACT is much better than dropping out of school, which is what over 50% of students who go to Chicago public high schools do, so I'd say there is nothing wrong with this picture and the school over-all is a success... depends on your prospective, I suppose.

  • Their ACT average was a 16.

A considerable amount of good 4 year schools that these kids boast about getting into usually require scores in the mid-twenties.

    What's wrong with this picture?

  • @mrbones2010 thats not true, I went to urban prep and I made a 25 on my ACT.

  • @aferg76

congrats - but the whole school averaged a 16 - you may be doing well for yourself - but the school as a whole is a failure

  • this shouldn't be the exception, this should be the norm. grandmother was one of the first african americans to graduate from UCLA. there was no pressure around the house to go to college, it was the norm. the south side of chicago may seem dim, but to 3rd world countries it is a paradise. we must not allow demographics to define who were are as a race. books read in beverly hills can also be read in WATTS. nothing is too hard for God.

  • This is so fabulous- I wish more educators and institutions took this route!
