Just got done watching the Blu-ray dvd of this movie, in the original widescreen. It's still as good as when I first saw it back in 1977.

Although I'm not a fan of movie remakes, I think this film is the perfect candidate for a remake. It's a great story that's perfect for a feature film, and would benefit enormously from today's modern f/x.  Even co-producer Paul Maslansky, in the commentary for the dvd, says he'd like to see the film remade.

What's the latest word on this movie being released on DVD? AND in the original widescreen? So far, it seems to be only on a few over-priced VHS tapes and Amazon Video rental---each of which are only in the terrible "pan and scan' format, that is virtually unwatchable.

@farmerne The VHS release in the 1980's and the rental on Amazon VOD are not worth the money. It's not even "pan and scan", because all they did was cut-off the sides of the picture. For instance, there is a long-duration shot where the Landmaster is travelling down a road, however you only see a dust trail on the screen. Why? because the Landmaster is off on the extreme right of the originally filmed shot, and it's out of view in this print. (contd.)
