Love him, I used to nurse my daughter and then put this album on and he would sing her to sleep every night, that was 27 years ago, gives me that peaceful feeling.
If you read the book, GIRLS LIKE US, about the lives & musical paths of Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon, you would know that Joni learned about open turnings from Eric. I would REALLY like to see a YouTube clip of him performing Down At The Cantina, one of two songs I learned of his in the late 70s. The other one was this one.
I am grateful to a guitar player, George Murphy, who performed in Boulder, Co, in the 1970's, who taught this song of Eric's to me (thank you, George), regards, Gail.
A wonderfully gentle man and his beautiful music. There is only one Eric Andersen. (And as far as playing it at a party, wormpiano...when has a party had anything to do with anything serious or contemplative?)...but thanks, greatly, for the upload!)
Beautiful song! This era was the begining of my musical education. Lobo "I'd Love You to Want Me" Mac Davis " Don't Get Hooked on Me" Johnny Nash... Ect Ect...
If I'd heard this song, I would have loved it then too.
One of my favorite songs from the 70's, brings back many memories. To 909Films....yes I remember the version by Jericho Harp as well. I believe I still have that LP somewhere in the archives.....:)
Thank You: You Tube for the ever accomodating space, wormpiano for the effort for the upload, AND Of Course Eric Anderson for blessing us with one really bitter sweet love song, I could so see this as a party closer after a night of ribald raucous rock and roll! I can also view it as an excuse for turning down the lights, and getting down to some serious fifi, or some thing that I've heard love called!
I remember the Jericho Harp version of this song first (somewhere about 1976) as well. I love this song by them. Much better than Anderson. I was lucky enough to find the single on ebay. i am a happy camper. One day I may put it on You Tube.
This is a beautiful song, it helped me deal with my troubles when I was in my early 20's. It's amazing how a song can really fit with your emotions at the time. Joni Mitchell was bacgrounf vocals for this LP. Thanks for posting.
I remember this song performed by Jericho Harp. Does anyone else remember the same?? In any case, this song came out when I was going through a BAD break up. It was a perfect message for that time in my life. Funny how that can happen!
I'm told and I've read that the backup vocals are by Joni Mitchell. I would never have known. But, my English professor told me about this singer. I like it. New discoveries.
whoever posted that tripe about the background noises being Joni M..what an idiot

The backup vocals were Joni M having sex with a group of friends.

If one is familiar with Joni's voice it's quite apparent she is singing backing vocals.
Andersen is terribly undervalued, a brilliant songwriter.

What a beaut of a song! Jim Croce could have done it w/just his guitar, but the backing for Eric's version is gorgeous.
Thanks for posting a real gem.
