  • are 10 times worse and deeper and it looks like i have aged that area so much. Do you have any suggestions on what i should do and if it might be permanent? have been putting argan oil on it all morning to help moisturize but the lines are still pretty bad

  • im hoping you can help me... i recently found two videos on youtube on diy, one a 20% vitamin c serum( consisiting of l ascorbic acid, glycerin, and water) and a toner (consisting of apple cider vinegar and green tea). I used these back to back yesterday morning as well as right before bed, and the night before. it stung a little yesterday morning and last night it stung alot but stopped within a couple of minutes. well i woke up this morning and the lines under my eyes (near my bottom lashes)

  • What's the right amount of serum that needs to be applied without overdoing it?

  • @etamlous It does not need to be applied thick. Only a thin layer is needed so as an example 1 drop will do the under eye and crows feet.

  • I'm a male with adult acne breakouts on my forehead. I'm on prescription retinoid Tazorac cream that I use daily before bed time. I would like to try your vitamin C serum but I'm not sure if it's beneficial. to be used on skin with active acne breakouts? And how can I use it while I'm on a retinoid cream?

  • @etamlous Most people don't have any trouble with acne and the Vitamin C unless they begin using it every day and apply too much. I would say less than 5% of people get any breakouts. If the Tazorac is controlling things you should not have a problem. Another trick is to start using it on other areas than the forehead and slowly incorporate this region. Also you can start by using it every other day.

  • Hello :) what is the difference from l ascorbic acid and just ascorbic acid?

  • @EricaLeAnnUmberger It has to do with the chemical structure. The L means that in the second carbon from the bottom, the order is HO-C-H. There is either a D or and L isomer. The L isomer has better properties for skin. Some people use a racemic blend.

  • The only way to truly know if a product will work for you is to try it and see if your skin responds. You can maximize the potential that something will work for you by using good products at the right concentrations. In terms of the Kinerase I can't comment specifically as I have not used it with my patients. I do use and have experience with several brands, just not Kinerase specifically.

  • This area is very close to the eye. Definitely topicals such as a vitamin C. Sunscreen will help prevent further damage along with the C. A treatment such as Thermage where eye shields are used so this delicate area can be addressed would be the next step. Prevent and prevent again any further skin damage. Maintain your existing collagen and elasticity. Fillers and botox are not good options in this area.

  • Hello! I am 23 and have recently developed fine lines/wrinkles underneath my eyes, near my bottom lashes. What would you suggest to completely rid me of this problem?

  • What do I do to get rid of acne scars?

  • For deeper scars I like to use Co2 lasers for single treatments but there can be 1-2 weeks of downtime. Less ablative lasers can work and have less down time but one would need more sessions are needed. If there is discoloration these lasers will also reduce it. For topicals Niacinamide which is in our advanced firming can work great as can retinoic acids which is in our Night Cream product. Remember that topicals will not give as dramatic result as lasers but are a great adjunct.

  • does this lighten and even skin tone, not drastically bleach?

  • Yes, Vitamin C , particularly in the form of L ascorbic acid has been shown to improve the appearance of uneven skin and helps reverse sun damage. We do see this in clinical practice in those patients using it on a regular basis. Patients will report improvements in as little as 2 weeks and depending on the skin damage, this may take a little longer.

  • It can be frustrating trying to dissolve this and product from different manufacturers will dissolve differently so once you find your formula stick with the same manufacturer. You can try different cream bases and I have heard of people using cetaphil as a base. That may be a simple solution for you. I still would recommend trying lower doses of L ascorbic acid as I have found superior results with this if used with the correct formulation. Shelf life for AP? likely 12 months in cool storage.

  • No problem. The palmitate form will not dissolve readily in many cases. Go for a pure L- ascorbic acid powder and it should mix well either in a cream base or a serum. Go for a 15% concentration initially. So 15 grams in about 100 grams of final product. Keep it refrigerated once mixed.

  • Hi Dr, this will be my first time using a vitamin C serum. I recently just purchased Avalon's Organics Vitamin C. Have you heard of it and do you suggest it? And then I follow it with a moisturizer for daytime and night cream for nighttime? Will the vitamin C get rid of the dark spots left from acne scars and such? Basically, how many creams, serums, moisturizer, etc. should I be putting on and in what order? Also do I have to keep the serum in the fridge or can it stay in the bathroom cabinet?

  • My pleasure. Vitamin C is so effective at helping reverse sun damage I advise applying them in the morning AND at night especially if you have sun exposure. Serums are always your first layer, sunscreens the last. You are right in general for antioxidants, applying at night is best as a general rule for maximal effectiveness. The most important thing is to be using a fresh Vitamin C and sunscreen in that order. Inflammation from the sun and pollutants is one of the most ageing factors for skin

  • @RajaniMDskincare i thought suncreen should be the first thing you apply on your face

  • Hello Dr. , thank you for this informative video. I'm wondering if vitamin C serums need to be applied at night? I read that one should avoid sun exposure after applying antioxidants. But there are vitamin serums on the market (like skinceuticals) which are suggested to be applied in the morning (under suncscreen) according to the directions that come with the product. So, I'm quite confused about this. I would appreciate if you shared your expert knowledge. Thank you!

  • what do you think of the skinceuticals c&e serum?

  • I like Skinceutical products. I have used them in the past and carried them in my office as well. Skinceuticals I believe state they have a proprietary stabilized form of ascorbic acid. As a company I have found them to be committed to providing great skin care and customer service. I typically tell my patients to try a sample of my Vitamin C on one eye and their current product on the other and see which one works best for them. That is really the ultimate test. I hope that helps. Dr. Rajani
