  • Wow, you are incredible! And gorgeous too! Thank you for the lesson!

  • I love you so much thank you your awesome you rock xxxx

  • Hi, Rae! thank u so much for sharing ur gift and talent with us. U said something about a singer standing straight, but what about the performer who is not in a choir, like a jazz/ R&B singer. It would not be fun singing while standing up stalk straight nor would it be interesting watching someone performing like that. What tricks do u have for that type of singer? :-)

  • At time 5:47 (you) approved.

  • this is very importent for us

  • I'm in love with her!!! :-*

  • 4:47 kinda scared me...

  • 2:21-2:22 The fly from ep 3 farted. teheee :>

  • WOW you are so far the best to teach us the singing tricks, i could never get my voice louder than i wanted and i always sounded so quiet etc, but after watching your videos i noticed an instant difference from before to after, i recorded myself, and i thought "WOW my voice sounds good", thank you so much!

  • @raehenry21 why did u send me a friend request I don't know you but thanks B-)

  • Thanks! i'm 12 and I Auditioned to be the one singing our anthem "lupang Hinirang" thank you very much I won the position!! I'm a Filipina :3 thank you!!~

    karis brown? ImKarisJadeBrown

  • Hi Rae, i've been practicing your exercises for a while now, and whenever i do them, i tend to feel light heades. is this common in practicing or am i doing something wrong?

  • I'm so glad I found your videos! Between classes and work, I can't really get back into taking lessons just yet. You give great detail and take things slowly. Thank you for uploading these lessons for us!! =D

  • is it normalto feel dizzy the first time you try it?

  • @Cxsizzlin Yup because more oxygen is going to the brain. A singing teacher I once had explained that to me. =)

  • 5:12 nearly pissed my pants

    great lessons though thanks!

  • I appreciate your attention to detail. Hoping to strengthen my voice to release my CD of children's songs. :-) Thanks.

  • Gosh you are lovely......

  • hi, i love your lessons, you are a great teacher!

  • loving the gold nails

  • while you are singing are you breathing in? :S

  • great! you are a very good teacher and also a good looking mum! :)) thanks for the video! so helpful!

  • For anyone experiencing random aches like with me my utter lack of posture causes some breathing to be difficult. It may be helpful to strech every morning, every part of your body, so when you begin the vocal coaching you are already as relaxed and limber as you can be. I'm not trying to replace any of Ms. Henrys wonderful coatching mind you, just trying to help by adding to it. =]

This is just what I've discovered while doing these excercises myself.

  • what website do u use for the notes that you play, Rae? xx

  • Hi Rae, every time I breath in and stick my stomach out I feel like I didn't get enough air what do I do about that?

  • Wow, i've been looking for this for a long time. My voice is actually broken , but i want it to get better anf start using it properly! I missed singing!

Thank you so much for doing that for free!

  • Thank you for this, I love that they are long and detailed. I have been singing to family most of my life and have always wanted to be professionally trained. I have extreme stage fright and hope that your teaching will give me the confidence I need to finally get on stage. Also I am trying to teach my 8 yr old son as best I can but because I have had no teaching myself, I can only do so much .So your videos will not only be helping me, but him as well. Thank you again! See him @ Rkat35004

  • Is my stomach not allowed to move what so ever when i put tension on it? It's quite natural that my stomach moves in when i run out of air. Do i keep it the same size as I would when i take in a full breath the entire time im singing?

  • How much would you say is too much practice?

  • I'm so glad you friended me. I love these lessons. You're so clear and easy going. :) I'm learning lots!

  • Hi Rae I cant seem to find your exercises on your website can you help me.

  • THANX FOR YOUR VIDEO IM ABLE TO CONTROL MY HIGH NOTES BETTER..

  • I watch all of your videos and I am indeed gaining a wider range of notes, longer notes and most importantly confidence and knowlegde. Thank you so much. I would like to eventually look into my whistle voice/register. Noone else on youtube is as helpful as you and I think that a better understanding would be helpful.

  • Hey Rae amazing vocalist x and great videos well I just wanted to no I get a lot of mucus on my throat and it is horrible I find myself swallowing all the time before I enter stage from the wings x but I can't seem to bring it up to spit out so you no WhT I can do to help?? X

  • hi rae, i want to know when we'r singing low, and in the same breath we want to go higher , do we have just to maintain the same expansion that we had begin with or should we expand more?

  • these excersizes really do work, they surprised me! I didn't even realize that there was a different way of breathing...lolol thanks. :)

  • ok... if i cant pull off the whole sample yet, can i still sing until im out of the breath (and of course while i practice on the breath support)?

  • i love how long your vids are!!! you are such a positive person and that makes me wanna see your vids more than anything!!! XD

  • Do you recommend singing for me although i have asthma but i really want to sing :'(

    what shell i do ????

  • 6:19 xD lol I like you

  • thank you

  • pretty voice, pretty face, and very good at what she teaches. 3 days and i am already doing alot better.

  • You are lovely and your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

  • My voice naturally quivers because I naturally shake. If my lungs get stronger, will that go away? Also, it kind of hurts to take big deep breaths, and in order to get a good breath I have to inhale slowly or I won't get all the air I need. Will that also go away as I practice more?

  • 5:12 T-Rex

  • AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS SHES SEXY

  • @ChurBurras Nope I think so too. She seems like a lovely lady and I wish her all the best with everything she does.

  • You're great!! and funny too. You really keep the lessons interesting and fun.. Thanks!!!

  • uh can I ask what keys were being played on the piano? for the excercise

  • I get improvemnt lots,thanks for the viedo~

  • are so pretty and u lesson are great thanks for do it

  • hi rae! love your videos, just wondering what is the name of the song you put in the beginning of them? it's lovelyy..=)

  • @ielmow ...and btw, all the very best with your audition! xx

  • @raehenry21 Yes I agree because I see a lot of vocal teachers just telling you to do something and not tell you why you're doing it. It's kind of like that saying "Give a man a fish he eats for a day..."

  • @ielmow My videos are longer than most because I believe that it's important to give attention to detail. I want everyone who uses them to know EXACTLY what they're doing. I aim to leave nothing to 'guess' about. That way, you'll gain a much better understanding of what you're looking for in your voice and a much better chance of singing without doing harm to your voice because of lack of information.

  • @raehenry21 detail ...yeap thats what i ask of my piano teacher .. he tends to tell me .. do this and that but now why or anything about what im doing , you are a good teacher.

  • Hehe. I've been trying to learn myself how to sing for two years. And when I started doing this excercise I felt my head starting to spin right away. Yay for no singing lessons!

  • I guess it is necessary to develop the abdominal muscles, but I don't know if doing abdominal crunch exercises will help.

  • @uutbchh It's actually the deep core muscles you need to develop, crunches develop the external (6 pack) muscles, and these sit on top of the deep core muscles, which support the diaphragm :)

A good way to develop these muscles is to get an inflatable aerobics ball, and use the ball to strengthen the deep core muscles. This will also help a lot with balance and general strength - all power comes from your core :)

  • pause at 2:09 she looks high

  • I love your explanation about using just a little pressure to slightly push against the abdominal walls. this has been the biggest mystery for me, and you've given the clearest explanation i've ever heard :)

    thank you :)

  • I know exactly what that emailer meant when she wrote about the pains around collar bone. You said it's from breathing in too much air... Do you think it also might be just the early pains of stretching in that area?

  • thnx again rae

  • your so good, and your very beutiful!

  • you are really just amazing :)

youv been helping me alot with my voice and its really improvedd.

    thank you so muchh :)

  • omg you're so fun! love it!

  • I never see a funny music teacher like u. I really enjoy it, thanks!

  • I have a really bad voice, will it get better by just practicing breathing?

  • Hi Rae, singing is also one of my passion. One of my biggest problems is that I tense to make funny-strange faces when i sing.Could you help me please on how to control it, thank you so much ;-)

    Gaby

  • brilliant lady..thanks!!!

  • The crooked jaw reference was hilarious LMAO!!!

  • @makemefamousish Actually, I prefer to include a little more detail in my video's so that you have more of an understanding of what you are doing and the concepts that I'm attempting to explain. I do this in the hopes that you will not damage your beautiful voice and so you can build a solid technique without flaw. In terms of your breath: Breathe IN = tummy OUT; Breathe OUT, tummy IN!

  • @makemefamousish

yea that happened to me 2

  • i am just amazed how great u r

  • SUPER !!!! +11

  • Hi again Rae, I just wanted to let you know this works for my purposes! I have done the exercise for a total of about 30 min with a lot of pauses in between, and I am glad to say I have now been able to speak with more power and energy than I have for several years!! This is EXACTELY what I've been looking for.Previously I easily got tired after speaking but not after this S exercise! This exercise and YOU are AMAZING, I really mean it, THANKS A LOT!!!!!

  • @maxxsee That's really wonderful! Im so happy you have found this beneficial xx

  • Not too shabby!

Very pedagogical teaching, I like the visual imaginary stuff too, thanks will do this s s s exercise a couple times each day to see if it works! I will not sing but speak infront of mostly 2-5 ppl in a loud voice like a bar, I hope this helps me since I've found this difficult in the past. Be well!

  • Excellent, I really like it. You are a good teacher.

  • whoa! I am boiling now - it really is like exercise. :/ Phew!

  • Love all these videos!!! I get dizzy when I breath in like that but haha it works so aw well.

  • your videos are really great :D really helps me sing better! (Y)

  • You are an amazing teacher!!

  • Terrific stuff - gets the basics across with ease and in a fun way, been looking for something like this for a long time,

  • You have a marvelous speaking voice. Just lovely. So the stomach coming in is something that naturally happens right? (Like you don't need to flex your stomach in intentionally).

  • Thanks sooo much, you are really great, but I have a question... I`m wondering, when can you notice if you are an alt, mezzosopran, or sopran? I'm only fifteen, and my voice isn't that good yet... but it is Ok until i dring a coke, soda or something like that... Some informations, please? 'Cause I'm in love with singing!!!

  • Damn, you're beautifull!!!)

  • @5:48 you scared me a little :P, but what a fine teacher you are.. keep up the good work, you' are helping a lot of people !

  • @snuk187 You meant 4:47

  • Hello Rae and thanks for your videos. I meant to ask you, do you pull in with your

    lower abs through the phrase?

    Many thanks?

  • so what do i do if i have a flat voice??? How do i change that up to make it so it isnt flat??

  • breatheing is fine for me its just my voice comes out to high or low.....

  • breathing is not a problem for me, its my voice and pitch control

  • @ProBinderSpinner Your voice is your breath. Pitch control is in your brain.

Hear the pitch first and then when you use the breath control mechanics, the breath presses thru the vocal cords and produces a smooth sound. Hope this helps.

  • @rovingdesertfox Yes do this: create the simplest instrument there is but one that needs your mind to intonate, blow air. Don't whistle that's harder. Focus and only blow air in such a way that you can hear a note value and sing the same phrase directly after. Blow any 5-6 notes. You'll find it's easy and accurate because you have now forced your mind to intonate. When you separate intonation from muscle related issues your mind will intonate correct, sending right messages to your muscles.

  • good advice tks!

  • Hi Rae. Would you please check out my videos to tell me what to do better?

Music is my plan A and I have a plan B. But if plan A doesn't go well I don't know what to do. :-) I never had singing lessons though. I am a self-taught singer. The thing I need to learn is to manage to sing live. When I am nervous my voice is horrible. Especially live and I can't sing high notes and I sound so low and it ruins it all.

  • I love you reahenry!!

Your videos are fantastic...intelligent and engaging!!

    Thank you!

  • love you thank you so much

  • WFT at 3:46-3:49?! an alien jumps into her? xD good lesson i learned ;)

  • @FanKatyPerry95 : "The alien that jumps into her" is called: personality.

She's giving you a little different character,

  • I love your videos... But I have a problem with my breathing, I always have. I used to take singing lessons and she didn't know what to tell me, but I tend to yawn a lot when I practice breathing. Am I doing it wrong?

  • thank you soooooooooooo much

  • Great.. thankz

  • Thanks, you're such a good teacher :)

  • @2847Silvana You're most welcome xx

  • You are hilarious and super helpful!

  • great;)

  • Thank you for posting this. I feel that I have some what of a natural talent for singing but that I need to learn to control my breaths and the range of my voice, etc. to help myself become better. These are very helpful! Thanks again!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH~!

Easiest lesson I've found on youtube yet. :)

  • i suppose you don't know how to scream or growl... i have been trying to find some good exercises for it.

  • Melissa Cross

  • @JoyKitten4444 thank you joykitten!

  • great tips

  • see the only problem with myself recording myself singing is that is sounds really scratchy and it doesn't sound right so it's hard for me to really hear myself. It's kind of an old camera

  • Incredible! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • awesome!!! i will be singing the right way now!

  • I sound like the people on American Idol that have no idea they're terrible, luckily I'm not tone deaf and don't sing in front of other people (except in my music theory class) and hopefully this will help me figure out what I'm doing wrong

  • Thanks So Much! i am from romania! it is very easy for me to say aaaa, eeee, iiiii, oooooo, uuuuuuu.....because they are the vocals in the words and the accent drops on them when whe speek...i am a chantor at the church and your lessons help me alot....please excuse my bad english

  • Thnks So Much, That Helps Me Reach Higher Notes! :)

  • Thanks for the collarbone pain tip. I had a similar feeling, as well as pressure on the throat after taking breathe, which makes sense that I'm taking too much air (because I thought the more the better and would breathe in and in until can't fit any more...and I'd get all tense).

  • wow, im so happy you post these online. Im going to practice right now! Thank you so much!

  • When I sing 1 song with that technique,,

    I can get fuzzy easily...

    please reply,,

  • my head starts spinning while i breath in like this :S

  • why did you invite me as friend ?

  • @najithecoolman LOL i was wondering the same thing! but i guess its her marketing strategy. It got me to watch her videos LOL

  • yay!! :D tyvm

  • you are beautiful and i can't believe you have 5 children!

  • The question about pain around the collar bone could have several origins:

    - blocking the breath once taken

    - raising shoulders to take breath

    - failing to use abdominal breathing

    - etc.

as well as the reason you quote.

  • Good one, Rae!

The hissing exercise seems to be relatively recent, and works well. It sent me scurrying to my bookshelves to find out why :)

Do you know Richard Miller "The Structure of Singing" (1986)? A treasure trove for teachers (too detailed for beginners).

I don't favour starting vocal exercises too low as students tend to strain and push when they get higher.

You sound relaxed down there. That's important.

  • These tips are really helping me! I've always had trouble with proper breathing, and now I realize what I've been doing wrong. Another problem I have is mouth placement when singing. I watch other singers like Emmy Rossum and I try to mimic her lip placements with each sound, but I've been having some difficulty. Could you give me some advice? Thanks for putting up these helpful videos!

    >> Zimmy

  • awesome awesome...I love how you break it down! And great tip about the recording with my cam...thank you thank you thank you!

  • Dear Rea ...you are cool women.

    Sooly wright me

  • foxeee

  • 3:56 (this is for me,don't comment on this pls)

  • I was wondering if you would be so helpful as to help me with a question. I am 19 male and i dont know how to sing. Would it be best to find an instructor for singing lessons or is it too late to develope any type of vocals at my age?

  • A lot of singing is about muscle memory. People can learn to sing.

A teacher can help you but you have to find one that believes they can teach you, and you can't give up.

If you aren't a good singer now it could be a while before you get good, just don't give up. It's kind of like learning to play an instrument, it takes time.

  • @tallguy1530 i really needed to read that

  • now that is a face i've surely missed!! I adore you still, lol mmWWaa from Mike, aka theasskicker from blogtv (haven't been on blogtv in forever) much success my darling! xo, Mike :)

  • I love your accent!!

  • very cute face 2 :)
