  • @skimmilk199 .. opps i was talking about El Cariso park. havnt been back in 15years so forgive me lol.. but i did go up the fire road of veterans park to get to the snow lol...

  • Been here like 50 times, and 3 times all the way to the top taking the dirt trail as opposed to the pave road

  • @hfbtrbdfnjbtrjtryg same here

  • does anyone know the directions on how to get here? i live around here and i don't know how to get there

  • @alexisswaste Go up Astoria (east toward mountains) street till you hit Simshaw ave and make a left. Folloq the street till you see a alley/road to your side that has a yellow gate. You can walk up that alley its the road that goes up to where this video was taken, road goes all the way up to the fire station. Love this hiking trail, I've done it like 50 times at least.

  • @hfbtrbdfnjbtrjtryg .. road is called May Canyon TKTR . google map it.

  • I lived right there 1996-1999 - F California - I'll never set afoot in her again :) QC

  • @Quaaludedude714 well good, we don't need white trash like you in LA, go fuck yer' couch Cletus.

  • @tedtug "But to each his own, and I respect your opinion." is a comment you made below. Hypocrite maybe?

  • @coltsuperocean10 ya, but rude people deserve it every now and then

  • @tedtug ...and you are a rude cunt!

  • 818 'til I Die.

  • sigh<3 as ghetto as u ppl claim the valley to be I love it and wouldnt live anywhere else!

  • @mellowjan4 I love the Valley too, but you've got to admit there are some areas that have gotten worse over the years, time is passing by, the world is evolving, yet there are still people who think it's alright to live in the cholo years of the 90's, they never grew out of that high school mentality yet they're in their 40's and 50's! But to each his own, and I respect your opinion.

  • i remember to have read that Sylmar is the place in L.A.with the highest crime rate ,is that for a fact or just blown mout of propotion?i have never been to L.A.so i don't know.

  • @mymusic777ify unfortunately what you read is true, Sylmar, like most of the San Fernando Valley, use to be a clean, safe place to live. Nowadays you do have high crime rates in areas like Sylmar, Pacoima, Canoga Park, etc. The vast majority of all that crime is caused by the gangs that have infested the LA area for a long time, and they do not seem to be going away, they're basically a cancer on society.

  • is that the famous "top of the world" location your at??

  • @TruckerErik2009 no, and I have no idea what you're talking about, in fact this view is from about halfway up the mountain. But I have been to the very top where the fire station is at. The views are even more incredible, you can see all the way to Long Beach, all the way to Ventura, you can see the Grapevine by Frazier Park, past Santa Clarita and even into Palmdale!

  • My brother and i took our bicycles there once and it was the most exausting feeling I have ever had!!! I didn't take any video cause I was so tired

  • fuck that place i got really tired getting up ther

  • @MrsMorganBlue2531 LOL, well the important thing is that you tried and succeeded!

  • To the tune of "Oh What a Beautiful Morning":

There's a thick smoky haze in the valley,

There's a dark smoggy maze through the valley,

You're choking, it's burning your throat and your eyes

And you can't see the freeway from here to Van Nuys...

  • @xxmoviemakerxxx #LOL thanx for making my day, that was very creative!!

  • How did you get up there?

  • @ViewAskewFan13 there's a partially paved road leading from Veteran's Park in Sylmar, all the way up to the fire station at the top, it takes a couple of hours to hike up there, or you can go the back way through Placerita Canyon in Santa Clarita where you can actually drive up to there.

  • @tedtug I'll take the Placerita Canyon I know which way your talking about I know that canyon very well, thanks.

  • the 818 Varrio

  • fuk san fer ....they aint even gangmembers out there anymore...all them faggs from slymar and their cousins .. chug chug boom clear the softie room

  • @supremeleader102

what hiking trail is it to go up there?

  • @Geo1Lakers just go to Veternas Park in Sylmar and go to the extreme left of the park to find the hiking trail. The easiest way to get to the very top is to go to Santa Clarita, go to the Placerita Canyon offramp, take the highway behind the mountains to the ranger station, there you'll find a paved road and you can drive all the way up to the fire station, it's a public road so it's legal to drive there while the gates are opened.

  • @tedtug oooh alright thanks, Ive been up there a few times but never seen that trail, ill look for it now. have you taken a video from being up there near the station?

  • @Geo1Lakers I have several pictures, but not a video. I'll shoot a video next time I'm up there.

  • you know the lights that are on at night all the time up in those mountains. what is that and where is it.

  • @Geo1Lakers it's the fire station at the top

  • Was this the fire that burned all 500 motor homes? Can't remember, I think we had more than one fire and all the fires start in windy days of course.

  • @morpheus101a yup, that was the fire

  • I live in the hills of Pacoima wootwoot.

  • Comment removed

  • That's sad! I thought it must have when I read about the fires. At least it will grow back someday. Did the fires reach up to the old base (CDF camp) on top?

  • @tgchism not the most recent fire, the one that occurred, I think back like 2006, reached the camp atop the mountain but they were able to save the structures, you can still see remnants of that fired everywhere.

  • Was this area burned during the fires? I grew up in sylmar and spent a lot of time in those hills in the late 70's early 80's! Thanks for posting.

  • @tgchism yup, it was ALL burned! since the fires though a lot of small brush and grass have started to grow back, but all the small trees that provided pockets of shade were all burned down. Down below this path at Veteran's Park a couple of bathrooms were also destroyed by the flying embers and there are areas still zoned off because of all the burnt trees.

  • Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Used to live in the valley many years ago. I think I went rock climbing close to where this vid was shot.

    Great video. Many thanks.

  • what no sun valley

  • I live in Granada Hills. How do i get here? id love to visit this place.

  • Canoga Park... Yup, Yup! 818 rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • that the trail on neon way?

  • I have no idea, all that I know is that this particular trail starts by Veteran's Park

  • i wished i lived in sylmar but im downtown l.a grrr

  • downtown is great place to be!

  • isnt that long street at :34 Polk St.??? cuz i live on that street....

  • yes it is! =D

  • While you are up there, you should try and take some video of the deactivated Nike Missle installation... there were three in the valley. I think its on santa clara truck trail. the other in chatsworth, the other near Birmingham high. I think all three had the nuclear tipped Nike Hercules missle. Pretty interesting history for the valley.

  • excellent video

  • Wonderful place.Everytime I hike up there though,I keep finding discarded cheese wheels! It strange because the cheese that is being dumped up there cost something like 100 dollars a wheel. Sometimes more.I have found Aged Cheddar, Swiss wheels,Gouda,Smoked Gouda, Provolone, Pepper jack and even old Brie! Is there a cheese shop near the trail? You would think they would just Throw their old product in the dumpsters instead hauling it all the way up the mountain to dump it. It's npot even expired!

  • WHAT?!!!

all I have ever seen, since the fire, are a couple of rusted car frames along the steep canyons, cheese wheels? wtf?!! I'll be on the look out for them, lol, how interesting

  • Yeah baby the Valley

San Fernando is the place to be

  • the problem is that the trails may still be closed due to the fires we had, so just check first, I haven't been up there in a few months, I can tell you that it's an intense exercise!! =]

  • it should be fine now, i take my usual walk there

assuming you walk from Veterans park

  • ya, since my last post, 3 months ago, I've taken my usual hike up the trail too, yes it's fine but all the trees and bushes are gone, back then I use to rest and relax under a couple of trees on the trail, but not anymore

  • i just moved in here, i mean in sylmar.... weather is fine... but is it true abt the gangs annd stuff, from what i hear?

  • the violence ha actually calmed down, believe it or not

seriously I think most people are so high on weed they could care less nowadays, there are so many medical marijuana clinics all over the place

    (I'm not oe of them)

  • The Gangs are not that bad. The only bad place i can imagine in the Sylmar area is maybe Astoria and Foothill Blvd. Just that little spot. Other then that, its just a couple wannabe cholos running around. Its cool...

  • awesome!

  • wonder what all the gangsters would do if someone nuked the place? (a la megaton in fallout 3?) im living there anyways so I would like die.

  • they're like roaches, somehow they'd come back, besides it's not like the LAPD or the government is doing anything about exterminating such vermin

  • I was born and raissed in san fernando but now i moved 2 gay ass denver i miss san fernando

  • really? I hear Denver kicks ass

oh well, to each his own

  • Well the nature and everything is kool its just the people threre i dont like they all try 2 act kool

  • I definitely agree with you on that one, people in all of LA are FAKE and rude. It's funny, like for example people from NYC are always generalized to be rude and obnoxious, no way, it's people here in LA who go under that list. The nature aspect? well I don't know about that, here in the valley it's always congested with smog and since we're surrounded by trees everyone suffers from allergies, but it has it's positives, like this week it's been like 80 to 85 degrees everyday, in winter!

  • I tried to hike back up there, but until further notice, this whole area will be closed to the public until further notice

    =[

I really don't know what road the hang gliders take, but I think it's Kagel Canyon

  • From what I've seen SFV looks cool. I don't know why it has such a bad rep.

  • OMG

thats what it looked like before the fire

    thats sad.

    O_o

  • yup, and it looks even worse when you drive down the 210 freeway through the Yarnell and Roxford exits, you can easily see the hundreds of motor homes that were lost in the fire, it looks like a war zone still to this day

    =[

  • Still to this day...

  • just think of all the porn that's been made there right now! wish i was there. irish girls won't do porn

  • Good video. Area looks very familiar!

Someday I'll climb to the top of Mission Point again (above Granada Hills) and shoot some videos, too. (The Pacific Ocean is visible from the top of Mission Point on clear days.)

  • the problem is Mission Point is also just ashes, those fires really messed this area up and now it's going to rain!! MUDSLIDES!!

  • I will wait until February or March to film a video!

  • it's all gone now because of the Sayre Fire, all there's left is dirt and ashes

  • yeah, you can see both fires form my house, the one in Lake View Terrace, and the one in Porter Ranch, in fact you can see the exact place where the Lakeview Terrace fire is taking place right in my video!

  • i see my house and sadly theirs a fire going on right now i hope i dont get evacuated =o

  • im from Sylmar 818 for life hell yea thanks for showing up our San Fer Valey

  • This video/Sylmar reminds me of a bizarre story. Used to live in LA & when first arriving I needed a place to stay. Went to rent a room from a lady owning a home there & she went psycho on me. Her son showed it w/o her consent & was going to lease it to me. Apparently she had a friend she wanted it rented to unbeknownst to us & used the excuse of me being a 1/2 hr late handing her the security deposit as proving me irresponsible. She screamed @ me in the street & told me to find another place.

  • it's better that u didn't live there and have a psycho landlord, I would have told her to fuck off and to go and yell at her son instead

  • Yeah, that's probably what happend to her son soon after I drove off, wondering what on earth had happened. Guess I was in shock as she charged down the driveway, shouting "You're late, you're late, you can't be trusted! Leave, just leave now!". I couldn't reason with her, I tried. It's funny now but at the time I was wondering if all of the southland was like that. Fortunately it wasn't. But I always did admire the view from up there where your video was shot. Cool landscapes out there.

  • I just can't believe there are psychotic people like her walking the streets, lol, she most likely got what's coming to her with that kind of behavior, take care! =]

  • from the looks of it this isn't the top. it ia about a mile and a half up trail and right where the fire trail starts. as you can see in the center of the 180-ish curve of the road there.

  • yeah, thats why in the description I posted 'halfway'

  • i was jsut there this week, it was about five miles up, i actually went to the very top and it was worth the view lol, i got sun burned. I love the top view i was at, i was able to see landcaster and valencia.

  • how long does it take to get to the top? Did you take the paved road or hiked up the trails?

  • lol i walked it, i took the hikeing trails i guess from veterans park, it was about two and a half hours up and two and a half hours back down. I was taking my time though.

  • My friend once brought an altimeter on our trip, Sylmar being a reference point, in feet above sea level the top of the mountain was at about 400ft difference. Every time I go, I take a small retinue.

Time does vary on pit-stops, water brakes, and adjusting to breathing in the altitude.

Trails are the best though, Off-Road! Yeah!

  • idk about that off road, one time I was hiking down the paved trail when this guy behind us was coming down the mountain on an atv, he went out of control on a curve and hit the side of the mountain, but since he was high on something he managed to get back up and walk down the hill with blood running down his face, damn!

  • WoW...

    Nice!

  • hey, how come your vid can be seen in either standard or high quality? I haven't seen that in other videos

the video is great btw, I can see my house, I think?

  • nice vid.

  • I've been here. It's the Roger something state park thing above the (supposedly haunted) abandoned asylum. The view is breathtaking!

    I miss the Valley....

  • no, actually that's another trail directly next to Olive View, but I know what you're talking about.

  • Yeah, the San Gabriel Valley is also huge and one can only see just how big it is by climbing up into the San Gabriel Mountains.

  • wow! last year I visited LA for the 1st time, I think I went to the valley but I was only taken to the Universal Studios area, I didn't know the valley was this big!!
