It`s more like DesktopCube on Vista vs CompizFusion on Linux.

DesktopCube, (even together with other staff, like WindowFX from Stardock) don`t have even half of what Compiz can do.

As for OS, the only advantage of Windows against Linux is DirectX.

P.S.: I have Vista on Intel Quad, 4Gb Ram, Radeon 4750 (for games).

And Linux Ubuntu 9.04 together with Windows XP on Acer Aspire 5520, amd x2 1.7, 1gb Ram integrated nvidia 7000.

I like the custimization on a vista and the speed, look and stability of a mac. plus macs can run vista with bootcamp, in other words, i like macbook pro's but vista's are also nice (but not stable!)

The desktop cube is very useful to me. I use multiple desks to get work done faster and easier. Besides, the desktop cube only takes like 5mb of ram in Ubuntu.

I don't get how exactly. On Windows you just click the program on the taskbar. One press does it. Yet with Ubuntu you have to shuffle through 3D Cubes scrambling through 6 sides looking for the thing you need.

Yeah, so you have to press super key, then e, then look for the desktop its on and then click the program on one of your desktops.

Again, with Windows I just look for the program I want on this little bar that is always displayed and I click on the program.

Granted it is the coolest looking operating system but that doesn't matter to me. I wouldn't care if it looked like windows 1. As long as I can do everything quickly and do it well.

It can be. but the linux cube comes in handy when your taskbar is full. By full I mean you cant read the title of the window.

That I admit is quite sucky. I have my taskbar so it is twice the size and display the full program names. Still doesn't help that much.

I don't need over six programs running at once. I just have Flock, Photoshop, Visual Basic and perhaps something from Microsoft Office at maximum.

I think that Ubuntu could give an in-between. Something that doesn't involve usage of cubes :)

What I do like about windows vista is that it made computer specs jump forward 5 years in 6 months. Many of us forget, but when vista was released less than 2 years ago, you could buy a computer brand new with a 40gb hard drive and 256mb of ram. Vista really jumpstarted PC specs. Now you can't get one with less than a 1gb of ram. That is one positive that came from this experience.

No shit a windows xp computer you've had for 5 years is going to be slower than a brand new computer with vista if you didn't do the maintenance that's required to make your computer work right when you had XP. Of course, when asked how windows 7 requires so little resources, they will just call it "innovation" and blame it on a new algorithm or some shit when in fact it's because they didn't do their job right and released an OS way too soon without capping it. The jump from xp to vista was enormous. If windows 7 jumped as much as vista did from xp, windows 7 would have these minimum system requirements:

3ghz processor

16gb ram

200gb free disk space

512mb graphics card

The jump from xp to vista was way too great. Over the years the minimum system requirements have been doubling. Vista should have required 550mhz, 128mb ram, and a 6gb hard drive. That's what windows 7 is going to require. It's gonna be great!!!

Vista uses so many fucking resources because they didn't cap and compress very much, which is the final step in producing an OS. That's because windows vista isn't really out yet. It'll be out in 2009 or 2010 when MS will call it windows 7. Windows 7 will use so much less resources than vista. More capping and compression is needed.......a lot more.

I can't wait for MS to redeem themselves with windows 7. What did they expect when they released their OS 2 years early? Windows 7 will be a masterpiece, something that will blow away mac and linux. I can make XP look EXACTLY like windows vista in less than 5 minutes with the sidebar and even a mac dock. Vista is just a shitty beta version of windows 7 that MS is testing.
