I too love the lightness of Florez and Alva's voices in this aria, but in terms of technique, Alfredo Kraus's colorful and intelligent rendition is unequalled!
It is my opinion, but why can't I say it? It is a discussion here and everyone can say what they want as long as they are not rude. Kraus is one of my favorite singers and he is great, for example he is great Alfredo in Traviata - superbly beautiful and elegant singing there. I rather like him in heavier roles than Barbiere.
@urzulaz i know and i respect your opinion :) , i just don't understand, he sounds very good and his voice suits this aria very well in my opinion of course
He is good, but to my ear he just does not sound as exciting as Schipa or Florez. Apart of the lighter voices and more agility, those two have a sense of humor and fun needed for the role. Schipa's sense of humor is more adult, slightly ironic and refined. Florez's is a bit kiddy, but sweet, so I prefer them better. Well, may be I am too critical, but we are spoiled for choice here, are not we?
@urzulaz Estoy absolutamente de acuerdo.. Cantar no es solo técnica. Ver a Florez y escucharlo es un gran placer. Compone muy bien los personajes. Y su voz es bella.

The voice is pretty enough, as normal, but sometimes his Italian (and especially in this) sounds terribly Spanish. Stresses on the wrong syllables, especially in the first verse, mainly...
