@Dam112 Ok. I love whitney to death but she holds the microphone close to be mouth all the time. During her heroes concert in 1991 she stained the microphone with her lipstick. I under stand by her being outside. But since she has so much power and resonance especially in mid-belt, holding the microphone close shouldn't be a requirement.

@applmac2009 Well, a lot of mics can pick up sound from MANy feet away. On top of that, if there really was an issue with her mic position, we'd hear a lot of unwanted feedback and such, but we don't. Quite a few big belters do it to as well.

But Whitney can be heard even without doing it, it's just her way, I guess.

@applmac2009 Whitney has a very powerful voice, so the volume of the mic is maybe the reason why she hold it close to her mouth, not to do larsen and not to overpower the mic. In the other hand, some other singers with great volume prefer to have a microphone with great volume, (Like Xtina), that's why they put the mic very far away when they belt, cause the mic volume is already big.
