Pure salt without water is EXTREMELY AGRESSIVE for your throat! That's completely unnecessary. I've been struggling my entire life with sore throats. Spent years always in pain and taking antiobiotics. It was horrible.

I take Echinacea (it's natural, won't do you any harm) with warm tea (you can buy in any drugstore) it will boost your immune system

AND

I dissolve about 2 spoons of salt in warm water and gargle as much as I can.

Actually he's right. Read a study about this (dont remember specifics - exact source & study was quoted in men's health". Essentially, they wanted to know, once and for all, if this "myth" had any validity to it. So they made half of the study group put their feet in cold water every day for a month. The number of people who got sick was much higher. why? because the colder you are, the less blood you have circulating in your extremities & less leukocytes in those areas.

I was up at 3am this morning in excruciating pain from a sore throat, and was about to head to the emergency room because I couldn't swallow at all... not even saliva.

And sometimes it could be a viral infection or bacteria. The nurse practitioner just did a swab of my throat which that qu tip almost me me gag. I couldn't imagine sticking that down my throat. The bacteria may die due to dessication(drying out) because water is attracted to sodium. The sodium draws out moisture and stops life sustaining activities. This is why most bacteria cant survive on the skin, its too salty. There are certain kinds of bacteria that thrive in salty environments, like the staph. that covers your skin. I dont remember which kinds of bacteria cause the sore throat but this is worth trying. P.S. salt will not kill viurses because their not alive in the first place.

Normally It works for me. This time around, it turned out that my sore throat was caused by a yeast fungal infection (oral thrush). I was recently on a course of strong antibiotics for too long a period. This upset the natural chemistry in the mouth which caused the Candida albicans, which we all have, to flourish. Yes, although whoever told you that this is a cure misled you just a bit. It's more of a pain relief technique; the salt naturally dehydrates the inflamed area, making it less swollen and therefore less painful, but only for a short while. Ironically, you should drink a lot of water when you're ill as well.
