  • It´s true...Greece rarely won against Yugoslavia. And i remember a Match from 1992 between Greece and Croatia...End-Score 62-108.

  • @FloydTheFlyingDog ....I remember a few better details..

Greece EUROPEAN CHAMPION 87, 2005, RUNNER UP 89.....Greece defeated USSR 87,89...

Yugoslavia NEVER beat the USSR!!! Lost Olympic Gold Medal game 1988 in Seoul.....

and the ONLY Nation to beat the LeBron and the USA DREAM TEAM.....

GALLIS IS GOD of Basketball in Europe!

  • @akrivosdiavolos73

...and Yugoslavia beat USSR many times, not only 1990...

  • Το καλάθι στο 1.50 δεν υπάρχει..

  • h prospatheia kai to kalathi sto 1:54 einai asylipta....

  • in an interview galis was asked if he ever regretted not going to the nba. He answered that he definitely could play there. But if he did then nothing of all this would have happened. So it is better that he did not go.

Also Petrovic in his first nba years had difficulties but managed to overcome them. Galis because of his college years was better prepared to join the nba.

  • Tους την φορεσαμε κανονικα τοτε,ετσι???και ας μη λενε πολλα-πολλα!!!

  • H ATTIKH ODOS NA ONOMASTEI ODOS NIKOS GALHS EDW KAI TWRA....

  • galis can't be compared to petrovic ! the success that petrovic had , galis could just dream about it .

  • @soprano3055 what did you say stupid? Of course nick is better.

  • @soprano3055 of course, petrovic won much more titles.but just consider the playfellows of drazen(kukoc, radja, divac paspalj, vrankovic etc) and galis's(except fro giannakis the others were mediocrity in terms of abilility),the teams that they played(drazen played in well-established teams(tsimpona, real, yugoslavia) while galis took the teams that played from nowhere to a very high level almost alone).both of them were great because of their abilities, not because their medals!

  • @mcgiannak I totaly agree with you. We have to remember that Galis have a heart of a Titan and a will as hard as iron. You can put Galis in the worst team and he can make that team in one of the best team. That was his greatness

  • @soprano3055 Thats is because Petrovic was in a european dream team! But i use to said that Drazen Petrovic was better thatn Galis or Galis was better thatn Petrovic but the true is that is not fair to compare these two great legends. In my humble opinion Galis was the best european player of all times. Others said that Petrovic was the greatest european players of all times. But both were great!!

  • now serbia is playing to survive... what a disaster

  • @JIMY45GR No man! Serbia have a great talented young team! You will see in the near future how strong this team will be. In Turkey they finished 4th and almost pass to the finals! Give them a chance to develop there young prospects.

  • Zdovc , Petrović , Kukoć, Divac , Rađa , best five ever....

  • Damn, the Celtics could have used him, I can only imagine what would have been with him and Bird on the same team. His longevity and playmaking ability would have lifted Boston over the Lakers all through the 80s. Red Aurbach was right, letting him go was the worse mistake he ever made.

  • @MerkinMuffly nice words .i wouldnt expect that from someone outside eu. good...

  • i still can't see today's teams having a chance against the original dream team

  • The game would be relatively easy. It is not so realistic to claim the additions of Danilovic, Divac, Djordjevic would have made a significant difference when we talk about competing against Jordan, Barkley, Malone , Bird , Magic Johnson. We all have to admit the difference in individual talents 17 years ago was chaotic, mainly in the aspect of athleticism. Also don't forget dream team didn't even take one timeout the whole tournament. I can't see how any team at that time would have chances

  • Dream Team would be best national basketball team ever, however I doubt the game against Yugoslavia would have been anywhere near easy, like the scores suggested, like it was against separate teams of Croatia and Yugoslavia (consisting only of Serbia&Montenegro). Djordjevic, Petrovic, Kukoc, Danilovic, Radja, Divac and others would be in the same team- Only people who wilfully ignore this or dont know first thing about basketball can claim Dream Team would have easily won that game.

  • Well I guess that this is a Strong Point. Imagine. DJORDJEVIC, PETROVIC, KUKOC, RADJA, DIVAC as the starting 5, and then ZDOVC, DANILOVIC, PASPALJ, SAVIC and VRANKOVIC.This team would be a legend.

Yugoslavia was a country of 22 milion while the US a country of 250 milion. So I Guess that a fair one would be USA, against European All stars. So imagine, GALIS, PETROVIC, KUKOC, RADJA, SABONIS, starting 5, MARCIULIONIS, DJORDJEVIC, ZDOVC, PASPALJ, DIVAC, for the bench, plus DANILOVIC, SAN EPIFANIO!!

  • And then just imagine what would the case be if Oscar Schmidt would be added to an "International All stars against U.S.A dream team" match up!!!

  • @Skatastamoutrasas

    Detlef Schrempf....!

    pes ta re "skatiarh" ;)

  • @iasonas8 Geat german player who played with the Indiana Pacers and Seatle Supersonics. He was named best sixman of the year a few times.

  • @joevald32

    Detlef Schrempf!

  • @iasonas8 Yeah!!!! He played with another great euro player 7'4 center Rik Smits from Neatherland!!

  • I see you guessed the starting line up of Yugoslavias would be team of early to mid 90s. Djordjevic, Petrovic, Kukoc, Radja, Divac. Substitutes would be: Zdovc, Perasovic, Danilovic, Paspalj, Komazec, Savic, Vrankovic. Regarding European All- Time team, hmm, a bit tricky, My European All Time starting line up are: Djordjevic, Petrovic, Kukoc, Nowitzki, Sabonis. Their substitutes are a bit hard to point with my knowledge of all those players.

  • @markovican put gallis instead of djordjevic.too medium.gallis, petrovic, kukoc, nowitzki, sabonis are true aliens

  • @markovican you forgot galis

  • @Skatastamoutrasas Actually, I don't think they would have had a chance against the dream team of 92. Yugoslavia back then was representative of the strength of European basketball in the 90ies. And they got hammered. Most of those guys were good but not elite NBA players with the exception of Petrovic who was at the point of being a dominating NBA player. And they were just not very good defensively.

  • @markovican Any game against Dream Team 1992 would be an easy guess. Yugoslavia played against Boston Celtics in 1988 , and guess what, it lost by 30 points. Thinking that Lary Bird (the best player of Celtics) along with Jordan, Magic, Mullin, Robinson, Malone, Barkley, Ewing would lose, or even play a close game against Yugoslavia is beyond wishful thinking. Ok i would like also to believe that as some ex-Yugoslavians do (Ivkovic says this mambo jumbo), but lets not be delusional.

  • "Nikos Galis" we never forget

  • Comment removed

  • Galis was easily the top scorer of any international competition that he participated, either with Greek NT, or with Aris in euroleague, averaging 30-35 ppg always with percentages near to 60%. Not bad, if you consider no other european player had even close to this averages. He was also a very good passer, averaging nearly 5 assists.

  • you guys are talking a lot about Galis and Petrovic but do you remember the great battles of Oscae Smith and Petrvic in the italian league?

  • tosevski is there someone here who played with one of this teams? you are right galis was the only real player that greec have that moment. I think he was selfish to be a point guard he shoot to much but dam he was a sniper

  • Where was Galis when you played against Yugoslavia 1989. in Zagreb? Even if you had 10 Galises, you would not win that team of Yugoslavia...Because that was the real DREAM TEAM!!!The best basketball team ever existed...And you all know thats true...

  • The best basketball team ever existed?? Ehm maybe you exaggerate a bit. In 1987 almost the same team core of 1989 (Divac, Kukoc, Radja , Petrovic, Paspalje, Vrankovic) lost to Greece 2 times, both in the first round and in the semi-final, forcing Yugoslavia then to compete for the bronze.

In 1989 Yugoslavia took the rematches, in Zagreb , in a convincing way, but you can't say that Yugoslavia was better than USA's dream team.

  • Well...I say that USA's dream team would have a big problem to win our dream team from 1989...It would be very tight match from the begginig to the end...And who knows....You say all Slavic nations?Thats only one nation...Those are the same people...Just different countries...Think about Greece to split in 6 republics!!!What would that be?Galis was LEGEND of player, and nobody denies that...But we are now talking about the teams...And we are the best basketball nation in history with 5 world tit

  • I think Yugoslavia could compete with USA a little better than Croatia itself did in 1992 but i don't know if the game could be very close for more than half time, because we are talking about Jordan,Bird,Magic, Barkley,Pippen,Malone etc most of them in their prime.

Don't forget that Croatia then had some of the key players of the former Yugoslavia (Kukoc,Radja,Petrovic,Vrankovic) and still lost by 32

Well Greece is small already and has only 10 million, Yugoslavia had more than a double

  • Croatia?Dont tell me that you think i am from Croatia?I am from Serbia! Dont forget that we Serbs were better than Croatia at 1992...We had Djordjevic,Divac,Paspalj,Danilovic and the other guys...What would happend if they played with Kukoc,Radja,Petrovic,Vrankovic...In the same team?I have a big respect for Jordan,Pipen...But They would not win that match by 32 if they played against Yugoslavia...And What about SAD?They are more than 50 countries...

  • I thought so you are from Serbia, but i talked about Croatia because this was the team that faced USA in the final of 1992. Serbia (or FR Yugoslavia then) didn't participate that year, i don't know for what reason, probably due to the conflicts of that time.

Maybe the difference wouldn't be 32, but i can't see Yugoslavia even with these additions losing with less than 15-18.

All these slavic players had much talent, but the difference in athleticism back then of europeans with NBAers was huge

  • Ok...You think that way...I think the other way...But one thing is funny...We'll never know who was right!!!:DDD....You're right for athleticism of NBA players...And thats maybe the main reason for their domination now...And before of course...Serbia did not participate that year because of UN sanctions....Fucking Bastards...You don't know how was the life in Serbia then....And you don't want to know..Believe me...My brother...

  • With 10 Galises we would destroy not only Yugoslavia but any team. Instead of 10 Galises we just had one Galis, one Giannakis, one Xristodoulou and one Fasoulas (who lacked offensive skills, he was just a decent rebounder/blocker), that's a sum of 4 players competing against all slavic nations :)

  • @tosevski100

i am Greek and yes, you had a super team, better from any Greek team ever. but still not the best team in the game, only 2 players of that team managed to make it in the NBA.

Jordan with any team could easily win 89 Yugoslavia for example.

  • nobody deny that u had great team. here we compare and we say our opinion for these great players. your country has tradition on basketball. greece begun to play basketball since galis came in Aris. that's the different between them.

  • Sorry...I didn't mean to hurt your feelings! Can you tell me something please...I am 17 years old,and i didnt have a chanse to watch this player live...I know all about drazen because he played for Yugoslavia, but can you tell me more about Galis carrer?Did he play in Nba?

  • GALIS was the 2nd scorer in college average about 27.5 points (behind larry bird who had about 30 points) he took part in the summer camp of celtics but he was injured and cut(celtics choose bird), then he joined aris and averaged more than 30 points per game and 4-5 assists in every competition he took part. he alone made a nation to love basket and was the idol of today stars (spanoulis, diamantidis, papaloukas and many more)

  • My friend Galis still todays everybodys idol. Scoring is not the only thing that Galis could do he also have the biggest heart and courege that any player could have. That historic 1987 Eurobasket have a name NIKOS GALIS. Like i always said Galis is the Alejandro Magno of basketball. He was a simbol of respect, heart, courege, strength and knowleged of the game. A MAGESTIC. LOVE FOR GREECE

  • @joevald32 who is alejandro magno?

  • @nikitawah Alejanddro Magno was a greek war legend of the antique GREECE, he was a genius of war strategys. They call him Alexander the great!

  • @joevald32 you are great man Magno in spanish means Great.

yes ,the macedonians was a great Team of their time with good thinking and cooperation.search for their falangs (falanga in greek,i guess it will be the same in spanish ,too)it was a very clever system that everyone was an equal part of the whole team.i've seen it in a Discovery Channel video on youtube and in torrents.

    peace friend joevald32

    nickolas

  • @nikitawah Peace my friend. Jose Valderrama!! Nice name like Nikos Galis jajaja!!

  • @nikitawah Hey man you are from the great GREECE you know better than me who is Alexander Magnus in spanish we say Alejandro Magno. In in a comment I compare him with Nikos Galis! That for me he is the best euro player of all times.

  • @joevald32 good eyes m8

    all these people were great

we wish we ll be someday like them.lol

btw we gotta be of the same age .i m 35.how old are you?

not to forget.the great epi.my favourite spanish player of the '80's.with good character ,too.true leader.say hello if you see him.

  • @nikitawah I am 38 and i played with Puerto Ricos National team sub 16!! Epifanio? He was great to I all so like brazilian player Oscar Schimth and another great greek player Panangiotis Yiannakis.

  • @nikitawah Epi played with others great players like Jordi Villacampa and Alberto Herreros!

  • drazen said in an interview "u say that i'm the devils son, if thats true then galis is the devil himself" and in another drazen said "i'd rather pass to galis and watch him score"

  • @tosevski100

no NBA team gave him the money Greek teams did

  • Yugoslavia does not exist now. Greece has 2 golden medals in European Championship, 2 silver & 2 bronze!!! How about Croatia??? Only 2 bronze medals...

  • @tosevski100

    hey chill...

  • aris re bodia

  • kochakocha, just because u have no clue about basketball and thus has never heard of the statstically top European scorer in the history of Euroleage, World championships and of course European Championships does not mean shit!

  • Galis had Sabas, Tchachenko, Petro, kukoc for breakfast.

  • Sabas was the best

  • NICK was unstoppable, the best european guard ever...No one could stop him. Alexandar Gomelski once said, that the best way to stop Galis is to lock him in a room.

He was 35 years old and still could score more than 25 points per game with incredible stats. I liked Drazen but Galis was a phenomenon

even Aja Petrovic said that Galis was better than his brother.

  • lol, get your facts straight and do some reading.

  • @kochakocha88 unknown guy?????/are you kidding me now????????

  • @amagginas No, thats the way it is. Greece and basketball, like ground and the sky

  • @kochakocha88 ok,now i'm sure you're kidding...

  • τι ματσάρα ήταν αυτή

    ΓΚΑΛΗΣ ΓΙΑ ΠΑΝΤΑ

  • Two great artists!

  • This Galis guy is WAAAYY better than Iverson!

Iverson scores, but is a team destroyer, a bad leader.

Galis scores, and is a team winner, a great leader!

  • Galis was the best European EVER. I don't know why so many people say Sabonis, Drazen, Dirk? I guess because they didn't see Galis enough. This guy was every bit as good as Chris Paul is if not even better.

  • Btw, Galis was the best european player.

Himself alone, a whole team! 30-40-50 points per game.

Not Drazen and not anyone else can be comared with him. Only NBAers like Jordan.

  • gmt, den iparxoun pia tetoioi paixtes...

    No such players today!

  • o.k gays Drazen was a great player with a big career in europe and national team's also in nba with nets.....but in yougoslavia was kukoc radja pasplalj divac,,,,NICK WAS ALONE WITH NO HELP....Kampouris fassoulas giannakis they r funny players.Galis is just the best europian player ever....WE LOVE U NICK

  • Mου αρεσαν τα πραγματα που ηταν τοτε τοσο αγνα....

Ι like when things back then were so pure...

    Greeks - Serbs brothers

  • basket is a team sport , it's not atomic , so nobody can compare two players only for the titles that they take , it's not a 100m men or some other sport that you can count only the medals tha they take , check up the history of europe basketball and everybody can see how many records Galis have , also has the scoring average record in the world champion , and was the leader of one small country GREECE when she became europe champion against powerfull USSR , so i bielive that galis is phenomeno

  • Hello! I have many games on dvd's,,Drazen Petrovic(130 games),Toni Kukoc,NIKOS GALIS,Cibona,Jugoplastika, Croatia, Ex-Yu, Nba,Europian cup, Europian chanpionship, World chanpionship... ( 400 games ).If someone interesanted for this games, ,or have some games for exchange, please send me message.

  • I meant that Galis was only 1.83

  • @jctergal

    1.87

  • Drazen said in an interview : You called me devils son.if i am devils son then Gallis is Devil him self.

This is just an interview i wont say that Drazen or Nick is better respect to the two players that change Eu basketball

  • both great players! now we have wade&bryant and stuff... this is the way basketball is played... viva nikos viva drazen!

  • both were big players!

  • you wish he was but nick was and will be the best european player ever. Drazen himself was inspired by nick. you might haven't checked on nick's game. I respect your opinion. But i do think that if drazen was alive no one would have made it on such a big deal about him so as to compare him with galis

  • you cant compare Drazen and Galis. Yes Galis was good but Drazen was perfect ,and if you dont belive see Eurobasket finale in 1989 , Drazen with Yugoslavija team in that time and Galis with Greece, I dont want say score because its look like the kids play on Greece side , So dont try compare Nick to Drazen , Petrovic was the best Europe player ,ever , and still is.

  • Yes Drazen was fantastic. To compare fairly. a. Galis had no teammates, while Drazen had (Divac,Radja,Kukoc) b. Drazen had no physical strengths (1.83) while D.P. had.

  • you re wrong, galis was the best.Nowadays we compare players such as diamantidis with petrovic, but we don't compare any players with nick, because we can't. He was,is and will be the best european player ever.

  • that what you say, but most of people think different, thats for sure, by the way tell me what Galis win like player and see what Drazen did, end of story

  • @cikat1992 EPI WAS AS GOOD AS GALLIS........ EPI WAS THE BEST EUROPEAN PLAYER OF THE 80 DECADE .. gallis was incrredibly good, but epi is a legend too.

  • @johannesjuanes we like epi of course.but i's too stupid and too nationalistic to forget players like galis, drazen, marculionis and if we think of big heights arvidas is something else.(not to mention menegin)

  • @nikitawah You meen Dino Menegin from Italy? What about Antonelo Riva he was great too! I like Drazen Dalipagic one of the smartest players of all times!

  • nick galis did not want to go to nba. Just like he said 'it is better to be first in the village rather than be second in the city', and yes he was a little better than petrovic. he was the best european player ever. No one could stop him

  • Petrovic was better than Galis. Galis is a legend just like Epi in spain. But the greatest player of all time is PEtrovic and I am not a croatian I am a spanish.

  • ....προς φιλαθλους του Αρη : ειναι δυνατον ρε μαλακες να μην υπαρχει αγαλμα του Γκαλη εξω απο το Αλεξανδρειο ??

  • I see that you are trying to compare Michael Jordan with Galis.Jordan showed what he can do in NBA but for Nick this opportunity was lost.We can never be sure what he could do in NBA but as far i saw Nick was going to be if not the best one of the best.Something else why you are saying that Jordan is the best?My oppinion Magic Johnson is far more amaizing player than Jordan. He can hide the ball when he have it and give pass with his eyes closed. He is the best player who played in NBA ever!

  • lol. My friends there are players that you not even heard about them. You can not compare the players because each one has different style. There are were SPECIAL players and from the finest ever. My oppinion is that Galis was one of the most amaizing players in europe ever and he could easily make carrier in NBA. Now about Petrovic i can say that he has also a special place in europian basket as one of the greatest players.

  • Amazing players both of them! I was in that game !!!

  • guys that great video isn't about comparing the 2 players..just honor them!!If only we had the chance 2 watch them side by side as players of Panathinaikos..shame..Drazen R.I.P.

  • @zakkasi if that happened, panathinaikos 1st european cup would have come in 1994 instead of 1996...we'd have created a dynasty in europe...like yugoplastika did 1988-1990

  • Comment removed

  • I did not say that...

I simply dont like Jordan...thats my opinion

  • Amigo...all Greeks know Nick signed with Panatha...Giannakis eventually followed...Nick retired in 95'.

Go pitch that story to non-fans..

I found Nick Gallis' old Bball coach at SETON HALL, BILL RAFTERY (CBS College Basketball Analyst) in a bar before a UCONN/GEORGETOWN Game and we talked 2 hrs about Nick

I dont give a shit about JORDAN he had all the refs in his pocket, he would take 5 steps on a dunk, frequently CARRY the ball,PHANTOM calls made for him

NICK IS THE GOD OF BBALL IN EUROPE

  • akrivo, OH KNOW nick is even better than Jordan ha??? hahah oh plz stop writing you just shaming yourself.

  • nobody is better than Michael Jordan period! Gallis was very good, but then why didn't he play in the NBA? besides NBA is different than Euro basketball, so each one was good at their domain.

  • It's meaningless trying to say who the best is since Michael Jordan is the best ever. What yoy may not know is that in '93 Nick was in Panathinaikos and Drazen was moving there. He was offered a blank check contract.Unfortunately,he was killed in a tragic car accident on his way.Imagine the glorious bb moments we all missed. We're so UNLUCKY not to see this unique duet.Drazen had said:"I want to be a co-player of Galis.Passing assists to him and score".If only he had lived...God rest his soul

  • Gallis is 180cm, 5ft 10...I luv it..the smallest man on the floor OWNED the entire floor...

He was OUT OF THIS WORLD

Who cares about Gazetta, thats 1 magazine

GALLIS is in the FIBA HALL OF FAME he played against all the Americans while at SETON HALL...enough said PETROVIC was 1/2 Croation...1/2 SERBIAN just to let all the TRUE BBALL FANS know that...he played for Croatia b/c is Mom is Croatian....he is 1st Cousins with Bodiroga who is SERBIAN.....truth hurts sometimes

  • that dont hurts me... I know that Petrovic father is serbian who took our catholic religion and Drazen declared himself that he is croatian from the start... so what? and ok Galis is Fiba hall of fame... drazen is in NBA hall of fame ... you want that Galis is better than Drazen but you dont look at the facts... so you are like blind man... Drazen and Galis are both legends and STOP WITH THIS

  • we respect Drazen Toni Dino Stogian Arian and all the all the other croatian players ,but mates ,the best europian player ever is this guy here Nick

  • sorry but I cant agree with that... Gazzeta dello sport declared Drazen as the best european ever... so why do you think you know better... that is just your opinion... greetings friend

  • that's because Greeks can't admit someone is better than them, its the jealousy inside them, nor Yugoslavians admit someone else is better. Its the stuborness of the whole region each one is extremely patriotic, and that's why the region has always been in turmoil.

  • Be a strong man and say where you are from..I will not insult you

Ive already explained everything in previous posts...just look back

Michael Jordan 1981-82==> "Its a treasure to have a player like Gallis on your team." when UNC travelled to Europe for a summer exhibition.

Greece has nothing to be jealous about..

Greece is a beautiful country that has contributed and enlightened the WORLD...

it is the Non-Greeks who are jealous of Greece...esp EUROBASKET/EURO2004

  • please see at 1:56 and 2:16 for a lesson on how to destroy a defense....

  • Amigo Hrvatski...Mr Nick could play in the NBA handsdown as stated by MANY OTHER NBA players Ok.. you do not just score 30-40pts against USSR/Yugoslavia by chance. Nick Gallis is AMERICAN born, he was only behind Larry Bird in NCAA scoring in 1979, Did you know that? As i said down below Drazen ALWAYS had a good team to play with...NICK did NOT..Nick is 5ft 10 (180cm) Nick could score from ANYWHERE,on anybody!

Drazen Petrovic 1987 --> "Id rather pass the ball to Nick and watch him score"

  • And I hate when someone invite me to this situation that I must compare my best player Drazen with Nikos... becouse I love nikos very much and respect him... they were both legend and allways will be.

  • Drazen was declared by Gazzeta dello sport as the best european player of 20 century, Reggie Miller said year ago, the only better shooter than me was DRAZEN PETROVIC... so you think you know better than Reggie? I respect Nikos he is legend, but dont compare him to Drazen becouse you cant... you just cant, and all basketball world will laugh to you if you do.

  • Petrovic always had a better team to play with, he was much younger than Mr Nick...Gallis couldve played in the NBA, he was already estab in his career. He did not need to come off the bench, to prove himself to team/coach/players, as Draz did in Portland..I LIKE DRAZEN...but Mr Nick is right up there next to him...how many times does he hit shots right in Divac and Sabonis' face??? Amazing shots ..he is 5ft 10

1987...."Id rather pass the ball to Nick and watch him score"---> Petrovic
