I got this album for free, a lady at work gave it to me saying she didnt want it anymore and seeing as how I like Journey, I might want it. This song helped shape my life. I missed the Journey heyday...I was born the year Escape was released. I will always look back on the Journey that was, but I'll never forget having this song permeate my little Discman in 1997 while I endured the trials and trivialities of high school. I never told anyone I was listening to it (that would have been deadly), but man...this song made me who I am today.
Well thank God. There IS hope in our younger generation. : ) I was a junior in high school when Escape was released. I am glad to hear you discovered my favorite band. Do yourself a favor. Go to ebay or amazon or whatever and purchase Journey's older stuff as well as the current stuff. Give a listen to 'Lady Luck', 'Sweet and Simple', 'Something to Hide'. Perry really shines. Buy the 'Captured' live album. Enjoy the ride. Tell me what you think.
I own every Journey album since 1975. "Sweet and Simple" is one of my favourite tunes...actually, the entire Evolution album is spectacular. My favourite version of "Just The Same Way" is the Captured version though.
Before I comment, why do they limit you on comments on here?...Dumb! This song is awesome. This doesn't work without Perry. Somebody made a comment about how underrated this album was/is. I totally agree. From start to finish, it is really good. At the time, it was exciting to see that lineup of Journey back together. I would have been front and center had there been a tour!

I have "Trial by Fire." This is one of favorite tracks. I listen to this one full blast driving home from work and singing along. Steve's voice has been a part of my life for 25 years, and although he couldn't possibly know it, his music and voice has seen me through dark days and happy moments for the majority of my life. Long live King Steve!
Steve's voice is shot? Uh,guess a lot of people don't know that all voices mature with age. Tenor's voices start to mature in their 40's. Sheesh. So many intonations and emotions and soul melting harmonics are present in his voice. And what gets to me is why people expect other singers to be louder or higher in order to try and surpass a singer who is like no other. It is far much harder to sing with emotion and softness that belt out and "screetch". Don't change Steve!
It's like he is singing for those of us who can't pinpoint or show how we feel, or for those who can relate to life's ups and downs. As we get older we understand and FEEL the WAY he interprets them even more. We live the songs with him! :)
I really, really love this song! There are a lot from Trial By Fire that I've really fallen in love with, and I can't understand why they're not bigger hits.
I don't understand it when people say Steves voice is shot, either...maybe they're confusing "shot" to "a teeny bit different" or something. Even tho he does sound a little teeny tiny bit different (as we all do and as all other artists do after a few years,) than he did when he first started out, he still sounds as good as he always has. His voice is definately not shot--he still sounds great.
People are just dumb. Of course his voice has changed some. Thirty years has gone by since he started with Journey! But I'll be damned if he still doesn't sound amazing!! It's more mature and a bit raspy nowadays, but mmmmmmmmm I still love it... and him. ;)
Have you heard him do even ONE lead vocal in 10 years? ONE? NO! Why? Because his voice is shot to hell. Even TBF had to be spliced together using his vocals in bits and pieces. With the right technology, you can hear it. Also, Perry's seen some of the most respected vocal coaches in recent years and the conclusion is...the ride is over. He's done. Get used to it!

Well thank God. There IS hope in our younger generation. : ) I was a junior in high school when Escape was released. I am glad to hear you discovered my favorite band. Do yourself a favor. Go to ebay or amazon or whatever and purchase Journey's older stuff as well as the current stuff. Give a listen to 'Lady Luck', 'Sweet and Simple', 'Something to Hide'. Perry really shines. Buy the 'Captured' live album. Enjoy the ride. Tell me what you think.

I own every Journey album since 1975. "Sweet and Simple" is one of my favourite tunes...actually, the entire Evolution album is spectacular. My favourite version of "Just The Same Way" is the Captured version though.

Before I comment, why do they limit you on comments on here?...Dumb! This song is awesome. This doesn't work without Perry. Somebody made a comment about how underrated this album was/is. I totally agree. From start to finish, it is really good. At the time, it was exciting to see that lineup of Journey back together. I would have been front and center had there been a tour!

I have "Trial by Fire." This is one of favorite tracks. I listen to this one full blast driving home from work and singing along. Steve's voice has been a part of my life for 25 years, and although he couldn't possibly know it, his music and voice has seen me through dark days and happy moments for the majority of my life. Long live King Steve!

Steve's voice is shot? Uh,guess a lot of people don't know that all voices mature with age. Tenor's voices start to mature in their 40's. Sheesh. So many intonations and emotions and soul melting harmonics are present in his voice. And what gets to me is why people expect other singers to be louder or higher in order to try and surpass a singer who is like no other. It is far much harder to sing with emotion and softness that belt out and "screetch". Don't change Steve!

It's like he is singing for those of us who can't pinpoint or show how we feel, or for those who can relate to life's ups and downs. As we get older we understand and FEEL the WAY he interprets them even more. We live the songs with him! :)

I don't understand it when people say Steves voice is shot, either...maybe they're confusing "shot" to "a teeny bit different" or something. Even tho he does sound a little teeny tiny bit different (as we all do and as all other artists do after a few years,) than he did when he first started out, he still sounds as good as he always has. His voice is definately not shot--he still sounds great.

Have you heard him do even ONE lead vocal in 10 years? ONE? NO! Why? Because his voice is shot to hell. Even TBF had to be spliced together using his vocals in bits and pieces. With the right technology, you can hear it. Also, Perry's seen some of the most respected vocal coaches in recent years and the conclusion is...the ride is over. He's done. Get used to it!

I've heard Steve's possibly going to be releasing some new stuff in 2009--hope its true and not just rumor!!And, yanno, to me, it wouldn't matter if he got back with Journey(I don't think at this point, he'd want to)--he's proven over and over again, that he can stand on his own without them. Journey is great-I love all their "classic" stuff, but Steve is doing just fine on his own, don't you agree?

Journey with Steve Perry was my absolute favorite band and will forever remain in my heart that way, but Steve's solo music has always been just as special to me. His solo music is just so passionate and emotional, its truly great music and has continued to stand the test of time. I also cant wait till 2009 to come, I hope the new music is also the truth and we will have new Steve to listen to.

This song proves that Steve's "The Voice"! Unmatched by anyone. I think one day he'll be back with Journey. I read Pineda's already having trouble with his voice. I don't wish anything bad happens. Just waiting until Steve get's back with the band. Time will tell.

I just got Trial By Fire in the mail today and here I am listening to this song again. I don't think I would ever get tired of it. I got the Behind The Music DVD today as well. You can't tell by listening that the break up was coming. They did a GREAT job on this album
