its crazy how my mind totally skips the saturn and all i know in that generation is the playstation and n64. the next thing i know my beloved dreamcast was getting discontinued while game magazines were still rating there games super high.
I was surprised it was on the list is all. I agree it's not bad, but I don't think it's "OK" either. I just think it could have been replaced with a different game, but then again it's not my list.
The Saturn was an amazing console - good vid and some great games here (though some slightly dubious entries too - Mr. Bones? Really?) If there was room, I'd include Metal Slug, Marvel vs. Streetfighter, Street Fighter Zero 3 (all arcade-perfect ports thanks to the RAM cart), Dark Saviour, Sonic Jam, Radiant Silvergun, Last Bronx, Virtua Cop 2, Duke Nukem 3D (the best console port of this by far)... Too many to list really - almost certainly my favourite console so far :)
If it was me then I would have included DEAD OR ALIVE, the best version of the game ever (yes, it was also BETTER than the Model 2 arcade itself), Marvel VS StreetFighter and lots more. In fact, my list would be 85% different. I guess the list is understandable if you are weren't exposed to import gaming.
What defined the Saturn for me except for Virtua Fighter 2, Panzer Dragoon II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Sega Rally, Daytona USA, Night Warriors, Marvel Super Heroes (played with the 4mb ram cart) and Guardian Heroes was X-Men vs. Street Fighter (import) and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (import). Hands down!!!
@jbetenbender That's a matter of taste, in many respects the PSX version of TR1 looks awful, one of the greatest 'showcases' of all the system's signature graphical glitches (seams, zig-zag textures). Though of course the Tomb Raider series was very closely associated with the Playstation brand, obviously in part because Sony bought out exclusivity after the first game.
However, the first game was developed originally on Saturn, and that version truly seems the most 'tailored'.
@pawnduit Oh it seems I had it backwards. >_> Well all I know is that Virtua Fighter was the shit, and I beat the crap out of the terminator chick (liquid metal).
@VonSeux Agreed, owned all but Burning Rangers and House of the Dead for me. Dig the Sonic R remix, cheesy as that soundtrack was it always puts a smile on my face.
I'm surprised you didn't include Saturn Bomberman. People fight for that one on eBay all the time.

how about sonic jam? That was defining game...the "world" was the closest you could get to a 3D Sonic adventure on Saturn.

Tomb raider defined the Saturn? Why isn't Tomb Raider on the list?
Warriorcats64 10 months ago
@Warriorcats64 Because it was on the playstation, and was better on it and the pc.
