  • My sound is off at the momment. So i dont know how long you where there. But that is one hell of a meal. ill pay you a tenner for that

  • what buzzers do you have?

  • what b.s do you use for your main line

  • i just put some corn on the hook and it seems to work most of the time. does the weight go on the bottom or on top of the hook? noobie questions i know :D what else can i use besides corn?

  • Hey I'm just interested in what rods and reels u are using mate. Watching these clips really brought me back to fishing after 2 years out. Thanks

  • @Boldan20 Shimano 10000 xtea reels (there great) Greys Prodigys 2.75TC cheers

  • When you go to a water with big fish in aswell as bream what do lose feed in? and also how much? and what size baits do you use?

  • @E4li5 It's all in the films mate

  • hi again steve just got some CCB red berry /glug/pop ups, so cant wait to give them a bash, as usuall more great videos by your good self keep them coming sir tight lines....col [scotland]

  • great vid, as usual, just got back from a two day session cold freezing weather, carnt wait till the next session, keep the great vids coming mate, tight lines.

  • Once again quality vid gonna give your amnesia rig a go. I've never used hooks with the out turned eye before on that style rig only on choddys etc. Seems to work for you so gotta be worth ago. Keep up the good work all the best!

  • alright love the vids do you ever use bigger leads like 3.5-4oz leads?? if not whats your thoughts behind it??

  • @carphauler141 i do but only if i feel they are needed and i am careful to use a cut down lead clip so that the lead can be easily thrown this prevents the carp from leveraging the weight against the hook and throwing said hook

  • Brilliant video again, thanks mate! Also, rather than dicarding non sticky sharp hooks, why dont you buy the JAG stones and eye tool, and givem them a good going over, and the sharp hooks too - these are still worth looking over with the jag tool. Keep it up!

  • Brilliant video again, thanks mate!

  • excellent vids mate keep up the good work

what size esp shrink tube do you use for the with rig ??

  • @digger250 ESP 7cm

  • @badboycv2 cheers dad:)

  • the essence op carp fishing right here: perseverance, determination, good mindset, in touch with the surroundings and fishing skills.

  • @bender0502 thanks:)

  • 05:25 haha Steve you make me laugh. I love the way you cut the clip, because I just know you are going on about being stuck in a bivvy in the rain all night for like 5 minutes :D LOL. Top blogs mate.

  • erm? yes.

    perhaps in the DVD eh?

  • good vids mate 10/10 keep up the good work :)

  • thx fella

  • great video steave

  • Cheers dude

  • orite sreve mate was just wondering what make of bivvy do you use and what would you recommened because im new to carp fishing thanks alot steve

    josh

  • I use a Trakker SLX which is ok

Could do with a chavs peak tho

  • Steve do you use standard dental floss? is there a particular manufacturer you use? Cheers mate!!!

  • i use the cheapest i can find mate

  • Another great episode, and thanks so much for sharing your rigs and the theory behind them - fascinating. I've got a simple question, sorry if you've answered it before; what did you use to tie the pop-up onto the D-ring?

  • Dental Floss. £1.20 from tesco!

  • Thanks for the info mate. I'm taking notes..

  • good for you fella you be lucky eh.

  • whats your thinking behind using a withy? as aposed to a flourocarbon/braid combi for pop-ups?

  • obeservation in the inlet watching the carp suck and blow baits and combis and blank sessions for me and the other members

did you read my two blogs on this session?

  • no i havent read it matey. have you found the withy a better option then a say 2inch chod?

  • Well my chods are withy style and have been for a few years now but of course the chod is setup different to the withy so you have options still.

Obviously if youre fishing over lots of weed/chod then the go for the chod.

If your fishing into weed/chod then a withy/combi in a bag is right.

Or maybe my roulette rig which you will laugh at, then look puzzled at before asking how many i have had on it:-)

  • nearly evry rig has it reason to be developed. so i doubt id laugh at it if you rigged it up for a reason sir. then it becomes good angling.

ive found the chod is a very good rig for grazing carp ie. carp that wont get there head down for very long and are constantly on the move around the lakes motor way.

  • i cant pass comment on the withy as ive never casted it out mate. as i told you when i popped over that day i use simple rig very simular to yours,

have you tried a combi withy? IQ boom with a 2inch braid section curved with tubing with a few mill exsposed for a shot and movement? had a play with it, looks good. cheers hully.

  • I made up many 25lb snakebite gold withys just like you say and thought the nice 360 degree movment would add to the rig.

It does not and in fact made the rig ineffective and tangle prone.

This is why i went over to the amnesia.

I tie my combis with snakebite too as it avoids having to splice in the hooklink.

  • have you not found tho with the short length (6inch) as the withy was orignally tied made out of amnesia, if used on a bottom of slight debris can cause it to lay awkward and stick up at funny angles? that why it was orginally design in conjunction with braid? sorry to bore everyone else ready this convo. zzzzzzzzz!

  • if i was fishing over that i would stick it on a helicopter/chod setup.

However i am fishing on hard clay with 1/2 to an inch of soft silt.

    Results speak for themselves tho

  • i've often thought the same thing when you get a screaming run with nothing felt on the end! weird

  • Poor old Bream lol

  • so u can keep on choping and changing your baits

  • i try and avoid throwing boiles out because there round and iv seen carp avoid them in the margins epeisaly when the boilies are all tight if i do use boilies i try and spread them out and get the fish moveing then hopfully thay make a mistak and pick the up the rig. i use loads off diffrent particals in my spod mix and pulses because i find it confuzes the carp and thay dont know what there being caught on

  • u dont realy use particals do u is there eny reasons for this do u have more confidents in boiles?

  • boilies are a better bet long term but paticles can score too.

I use a lot of hemp and pellets.

  • Firstly Happy New year Fella best wishes and big fishes for the new yearalso was the choddy at 24:00 your TCC Chod special

  • Yes part of it, the special is the way i attach them to the mainline without leaders and with three rubber beads plus the length of setup up to 12 feet or more if i can cast it.

Varation is a key to my sucesses

    Happy new year mate

  • what smartcast do you use has it got a good range on it and how accurat are they. Do ya think there worth investin in one how much ruffly are they cheers fella great viewin happy new year.

  • RF15e

Range upto 50 yards if not choppy but you can get it upgraded to 250 meters

    Mine cost £180

Esential kit and ten minutes is worth a thousand hours with a marker rod

    Have a good 2010

  • i use size 10 esp raptor hooks. They are great for the low doubles. I use flurocarbon soft ghost and it is crystal clear

  • does pingles pool have a website? or another sites with info about it?

  • All the info on pingles is on the premiumcarpfishing website

However i can tell you it's an 8 man syndicate and tickets are as rare as rocking horse shit:)

  • lol rocking horse shit. great phrase.

  • why do you have two chairs?

  • Guests

  • i fish a water called woodland waters dont know if u ever heard of it now its winter i need some advice there has been no fish come out nd i was wondering what rigs to use etc bait how much i should boat out etc nd wht bait now the fish normally get caught on the source but not in the wintre mounths can anyone help us thnx

  • Pointles going untill the thaw in the spring unless it's a very heavily stocked water like Vermuyden at Fenland Fisheries

  • yeah sorry,i saw later you use ''choddy'' hooks so...shrink tube will not be handy lol...

oyeah do yah any experience whit an ''d rig''? i make 4 of them 30 min ago...but yeah look bit of weird!

    gr ian.

  • why do you not use shrink tube on your basic rigs? i always do that but...everybody them own thing!

    gr ian.

  • Well my basic rigs are just that, basic.

I use shrink tube to crank the hooks but not on out-turned eye patterns which are kinder to fluorocarbon.

For cranking hooks i would use a standard patten like a series 2 from fox.

  • Fantastic blog mate, nice touch showing us your rigs. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you. Looking forward to trying out your rigs and bait in 2010 in my first season after moving back from Oz!

  • Back in blighty eh?

    Like the snow!

Welcome home and tight lines for 2010 fella.

  • Great blog Steve hope to put some of your rig advice into action, tight lines :)

  • cheers

    Merry Christmas

  • merry christmas from texas steve . the dead dog is funny !

  • Good old Punch, top dog eh.

    Merry Christmas

  • interesting insight into your rigs steve

  • when it gets tricky:)

  • Oh, just thought of something you could try mate, you should try using the Domhoff knot for your chod rids/any mono rig. As it doesn't contract and expand like the No-knot does, which can cause breakages (plus you only have to pass the line through the eye twice.).

  • A good knot the domhoff and your right about the knotless knot.

Palomar and figure of 8 seem to work well for me too.

Cub scouts was time well spent for me:)

  • Conditions look great mate suprised you didnt score a least one in that peg for this blog.

A very informative blog nice one lots of usefull information for those just starting out in carping top man.

  • Yes i agree with your conclusions but fishing is like that eh and that is what keeps us going.

    Thanks for your support bonkers

    Merry Christmas hic!

    Hic! ooO0000ooo

  • Interesting you rate the D-Ceptors so highly aswell, as I've gone back to Stiff Riggers from them due to not really liking the fact the shank is quite short. Although, you are right, they're really really strong.

  • Interesting blog again, Steve. Interesting because you fish the polar opposite to me concerning rigs.

In the way that I only really have 3 rigs I actually use for fishing on the bottom (Hinged Stiff rig, chod and just a normal bottom bait rig.). Always thought consistency was the missing link with alot of people, but I may have to try a few things after watching this.

  • Well i use the chod and combi plus my standard bottom bait rigs so we are close there.

It was obvious from observation that they were eating lots of bait and getting away with it so somthing radical was needed and it did work well.

As you will see from the next two films.

Also remember i had the 31lb common and two other commons back in mid november on the withy.....

  • @TheCarpCatcher Words of knowladge! I would still like to show you some rigs that I use, I seriously think it will improve your catch rate. I'll put a video up and send it ot you. Merry christmas mate, tight lines

  • You have to remember that i am fishing for carp that i have watched very closely as well as others previously.

They exhibited astonishing behaviour really that had me bemused for a while.

    It then dawned on me!

Rather than try and fit in with there habits and catch a few i would make them come to me so to speak and give them something they had not dealt with before and that was very hard to eject.

The film is short but i spent ages perfecting it all and had good results as you will see.

  • Funny you should mention the combi, although I don't particularly rate it myself, I have been experimenting with it over the last few weeks.

I've been tying them up with leadcore acting as the boom section, and I've got to say it does look quite good.

  • I agree the combi is not the be all but it works well when the carp are moving over silty/choddy areas as it gives movement and freedom to the hook and bait.

But it came up short on pingles.

I do not use lead core or leaders preferring to use a single mainline of 20lb x-line through out

  • awsum blog again m8 keep it up

  • Cheers

    Merry Christmas

  • is it just me or is the christmas T.V realy crap this year I have just looked at the t.v guide and it rubish. I feel the booze will be flowing this christmas

  • no it's not just you

  • oh and Merry Christmas

  • No offence intened, you catch loads of carp and I admire you for that. But those rigs? What is going on? I would not feel comftable using them ever!! What makes you feel so comftable using them? infact, I would willingly make you up 5 rigs and send them to you, to use. Infact I beg you to ,let me!! You would not be disapointed!!

  • Lol

Just seen your latest offering with combi-rigs (Which i did not show you)

You answered yourself by the way with in first sentence.....

    "you catch loads of carp"

I have other rigs you would swear are impossible for carp to suck in and rigs that would make you laugh at the implausibility of them.

They all catch carp and theyre all safe to use.

If it goes in easy, it will get spat out easy.

Besides you havent seen part FIVE!!

    Merry Christmas fella

  • So?

What do you think to the rigs and the response in part five:)

  • Excellent vid mate as usual and a good insite to your rigs already looking forward to the next blog Tight Lines : )

  • Cheers fella

Next one up new years eve and its got some stunners for you.

    Merry Christmas

  • your right about the bream steve, like reeling in a wet paper bag. merry christmas m8 5 stars

  • Happy Christmas Steve! Nice present for your YouTubers, a tour round the Carpcatcher's famous rig box!

  • he! he!

You have seen some of the stuff i have in that box eh, got some right neat tricks to show you next year.

    Should i show it all????

    naaaaaaaa!

Merry Christmas Martin see you in the new year (if i ever get my ticket.-)

  • Great vid steve once again thank for sharing your rigs next year im gunna try them sleeves. O and merry christmas! > FOR TOMROROW

  • Your welcome mate

I did it because fellas like yourself asked me too and only for that reason.

    Merry Christmas

  • hey steve great vid again mate, ive found when ive used super stiff rigs the carp can eject them very easily so ive never had that much confidench in them, have you had any problems ?

  • You get issues with all rigs.

This is why i use leadless rigs and observable spots i feed heavy but do not fish (You have read the written blog for this film?).

Watch your prey and see how they feed and deal with the rigs you use then simply adjust until you get runs.

Success of course happens over time with effort.

I keep a diary as well as film it all.

I measure my rigs, amount of bait i use and casts ect.

Work, work, work at it and you will succeed fella.

    Merry Christmas

  • Nice tips on the rigs. Thanks Steve.Good luck next year.

  • Your very welcome fingers and

Merry Christmas to you and yours

  • haha very interesting rigs, i didn't think you were ever going to share them :)

  • me neither, its more about being arsed to film it you know?

Just do it and put it up.

I'm not to good at that side of filming prefering to point the camara at the lake and fish.....

Cheers for your comments and tuning in fella.

    Merry Christmas

  • love your vids mate keep em coming. looking forward to your next one. have you ever fished in derbyshire? some crackin lakes to go at and a few hold fish upto 40lb, one of which i fish. tight lines and all that :)

    Merry Christmas
