The secret of this stuff is that it's like a broadway stage play. They didn't have oceans of content access or high tech so good writing was placed at a premium. There was only radio so Hitler was an actor. Similar to acting by lawyers seeking to paint mental images. It had to be entertaining and logically plausible, special effects didn't exist to gloss it over. Most flicks sink or swim on the writing not the acting Think of the stories by the Greeks, Romans or Poe, cave men at supper.

Very peculiar that this lacks music - lengthy stretches with nothing audible, between some dialogue and the announcer.

I've never seen this film, but this trailer makes it look like the Commies are going to successfully take over the world by getting control of the capsules.

Gene Barry also starred in "The War of the Worlds" a few years before this.

@dutchgoing A "Bathing Beauty" is what is now called a "Beautiful Woman in a Swim Suit" think of Sports Illustrated Swim suit models or Miss Universe contestants for example, they use to call "Swim suits" by name "Bathing Suits" but it didn't sound atheletic enough so they changed the name to "swim suits".

This is a classic of the 50's Sci-fi flicks , Spielberg or George Lucas need to re-do this well written movie , with today's special effects , but please don't ruin it , like they did with "War of the Worlds" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still " !!!

Gene Barry, the star of this film, died just twelve days ago. I remember him as Bat Masterson on TV.

This is a really great film, a great Sci Fi allegory, at the height of the Cold War. First saw it in 1971 on TV, they showed it recently on Turner Classic Movies, and I recorded it to DVD. Great underrated little flight, with great special-effects for 1957. Very hopeful ending.

I saw this a few times when I was a kid. It's dated, obviously, but the plot is a brilliant concept and it deserves more attention than it's ever gotten. The ending is unnerving in ways the filmmakers didn't intend, since it perhaps reveals the politics of America at the time of the film rather clearly. Anyway, if you like Scifi films, this is well worth seeing. Recommended! :)

Like many of the 50's sci-fi movies, the aliens have come to save the pitiful, unworthy human scum from themselves, much as Obama and his cronies have come to rescue us. Are the dems and the libs the new aliens from outer space? I think, yes.

This is one of the more intelligent sci fi movies I have ever seen. Among other things, It is about the temptations of unlimited power and it's potential for our self destruction. It also depicts aliens as enlightened and friendly rather than as monsters. I am surprised the movie is so little known.
