Back in the eighties I was on a rooftop in NYC with a couple of friends on a lysergic bender. We had just hustled some drunk biker for all his cash when he pulled a small pistol and started shooting at us. He chased us until we came to a door that was propped open and ran into the building ending up on the roof. We sat there for a while and then heard sirens and next thing the building next to us was on fire. My buddy started singing this song as we watched it burn. I'll never forget it.
this dude's ragged voice and the distorted guitar really captures the bridge between Neil Young's Woodstock era apocalyptic vision and the gritty apocalyptic reality of post-punk survivor rock. Brilliance.
@gdoddmeta3608 Please clarify how my comment, as it is my subjective opinion, qualifies as complete and utter BULLSHIT. Perhaps in your country, bullshit is the highest intellectual level one can hope to aspire to...??
The original LP this was from wasn't about the Flaming Lips - or even Neil Young, but about ALL the great bands performing all these great songs by Neil. I guess it's been mostly forgotten about, but it was the tribute LP that started that trend - and it was the best of them.
What other album features Sonic Youth, Victoria Williams, Nick Cave, Psychic TV, Henry Kaiser and the Pixies all on one album? Yet, to the right, I don't see any of these other tracks listed. Just the Lips and Neil.
@sex6cult9revolution I bought this CD back in the late 80's early 90's I think. Every track on it was great. I believe an ex gf ended up with it, damn it!
wow! i had no idea this compilation existed. Some of my favorite artists covering my favorite artist. fuck yeah!
