Liam is dead?! When? Oh goodness....gawd....I had no idea. Guess Ive been workin the night shift too long or I just had my head up my ass. Good lord I didnt know. :( Grew up with Clancy Bros. records. The old ones. Originals. I remember buying them at "charity"shops and I had no idea who these guys were but I collected records and I was a folkie and they seemed like interesting records....they blew my mind. I was in another world. I cried, laughed, danced...some of the few happy times I had.
In case anyone is wondering who Roddy McClorey was he was an Ulster presbyterian who fought at the battle of Antrim, he went into hiding after the 1798 United Irishmen uprising failed he went into hiding but was betrayed. He was tried in Ballymena and hanged in Toome in 1799.
sorry to hear that mate. The clancy's and TM were my dad's favourite band and he died almost 30 years ago in september. God bless and keep you head up!
Dylan said he loved listening to the Clancy brothers singing this, also their ballad 'Brennan on the Moor'. He was influenced by this group whom he knew well in New York in the early 60s. He said he loved the descriptions of the brave, rebel heroes, common in Irish ballads but new to Dylan at the time. This song, like Brennan on the Moor was always being played on Irish Radio in the 60s and sung at parties. That was before the Troubles in 69 made such songs a teeny bit controversial
TCBATM are featured prominently in Scorcese's Dylan documentary "No Direction Home" (which is AMAZING, by the way), and Dylan expresses admiration for them, at least to the extent Dylan can bring himself to express admiration for anybody or anything. He's known for his reticence.

Where do you think Dylan got his song "where have you been my blue eyed son" ?
And no, the pubs in Ireland have been destroyed by the Free Democratic Western World.
Too bad

@youpick4me
Not many, most have been turned into "Irish theme pubs" bicycle hanging from the ceiling (what the f^&* is that about), etc.
