@Moonles665 dont blame ya, the song in fallout by inkspots and mills brother were both in the 50's i believe so naturally they would have a similar genre
I love this song! I found out about this song via a MPC remix here on YouTube. Iam looking forward to checking out some more of their stuff. Thanks for sharing.
The mills brothers were simply incredible, and its good to know John Mills (son, grandson, nephew) is carrying on their legacy. I would love to catch them if i was in the states. But anyhow, check out "A Kid Named Joe" by the Mills Brothers. Probably one of my favourites. Great post by the way! Music is meant to be shared!
Where do they go, those smoke rings i blow each night? Oh, what do they do, those circles of blue and white? Why do they seem, to picture a dream of golden? Why do they fade, that phantom parade, of love? Puff, puff, puff, puff your cares away. Puff, puff, puff, night and day. Blow, blow them into air, silky little rings. Blow, blow them everywhere, give your troubles wings. Oh, little smoke rings i love. Please take me above. Take me with you.
smoke rings take me above all of these petty pointless arguments on youtube, take me away from the sadness i get in knowing that people have so much pent up anger that they have to release it in a pointless vulgarities to people that they dont even know. insult me,i dare you, i wont even read your comments, or even better i'll insult myself in the same stupid manner you insult each other"IM AN INSECURE MORON WHO HAS CUM IN MY ASSHOLE". How could you be so angry listening to this beautiful tune?
Haha, what a terrible come back to that annihilation of an insult you were just handed CUM scrubber.... haha, and i thought I was bad at this shit.....
Hahahaa... some these comments are so retarded they're genuinely amusing. People venting their last electronic scream before disappearing into anonymity...

As a matter of fact, I think this song is about smoking weed. They're all black and seeing what decade it came from, censorship was much more enforced than in music today.
you dumarse mofo, weed had hardly been discovered by th 40s they're talking about tobacco. so.. As a matter of fact, I think you're a stupid fuckin stoner.
Well yeah, he IS a stoner, obviously. And this song IS pretty obviously about just tobacco. Back in the day before TV, listening to radio people where much more reflective than now.
But if you read Malcom X's autobiography you see that reefers were an integral part of "Negro" culture at the time (40's on) and a lot of the black songs of the day were subversive comments on weed culture that the white folks didn't get...
weed hasnt been discovered yet. ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED?!! cavemen we're smoking weed before they could even communicate through speech. why else would they invent fire?
I believe the same, listen to the lyrics, its the most perfect but kinda sad lyrics you can hear when youre just smokin your J, hehe thank god i can smoke weed legally ^^
I think this song is sick all the time. I don't think it is about smoking weed or tobacco. It is just about smoking. And weed was widely used before 1940. You should take a history class or read a book maybe, kamalalalala.
As for category im not sure. The old rythem and blues proly? also check out (if you dont know already) billie holiday or roy brown and also the ink spots. VERY good bands haha
I don't think it's a crime since they're 69 & 75 years old, so if you PM me your email address I'll send you both versions in mp3. You'll know the '33 because it's superior. Cheers.
You ARE good, kid. I considered the fact that this or another could be an alternate take, but I couldn't find any info on it. I had never heard the version that you sent me:
watch?v=D_5lnuGkQFU&feature=related
They are incredibly similar takes. Incredibly close for one afternoon, let alone for two takes seperated by 6 years & the Atlantic Ocean. I have the 1939 recording they did in London. It's a completely different arrangment with a much slower tempo. I'll send it to you if you want.
I know your English is far better than my Polish, so you get a lot of latitude. I have the Mills Brothers' 1939 version, do you want me to send it to you?
You know what alternate takes are, right? This version or the one in the video you sent me; one of these is a 1933 alternate take. Just because they are different takes, that doesn't make this one the '39. You've got a great ear, so when you hear the version I have, you'll know.
It was reportedly written by the Casa Loma Orchestra's arranger. I think they did the first recording of it in 1932, although the Mills Blue Rhythm Band also did one in '32. This might be the original with lyrics, I'm not sure. Close enough though, haha.
not bad :)
