  • The mills brothers were simply incredible, and its good to know John Mills (son, grandson, nephew) is carrying on their legacy. I would love to catch them if i was in the states. But anyhow, check out "A Kid Named Joe" by the Mills Brothers. Probably one of my favourites. Great post by the way! Music is meant to be shared!

  • where do they go, these smoke rings i blow each night

  • this song just makes me smile

  • mrf150150150

    Agree!

I love it to cofferson !!

  • Is this the same guy who sings on a coupla duke ellington songs?

  • Where do they go, those smoke rings i blow each night? Oh, what do they do, those circles of blue and white? Why do they seem, to picture a dream of golden? Why do they fade, that phantom parade, of love? Puff, puff, puff, puff your cares away. Puff, puff, puff, night and day. Blow, blow them into air, silky little rings. Blow, blow them everywhere, give your troubles wings. Oh, little smoke rings i love. Please take me above. Take me with you.
  • How do you know the songs on bioshock 2 anyway?

  • Good song to listen to whenever.

  • smoke rings take me above all of these petty pointless arguments on youtube, take me away from the sadness i get in knowing that people have so much pent up anger that they have to release it in a pointless vulgarities to people that they dont even know. insult me,i dare you, i wont even read your comments, or even better i'll insult myself in the same stupid manner you insult each other"IM AN INSECURE MORON WHO HAS CUM IN MY ASSHOLE". How could you be so angry listening to this beautiful tune?

  • @mrf150150150 Peace my friend, I hear you ;)

  • Thank you for smoking:P

  • It's easy to ignore the comments below when you're listening to a song like this, falling into a peaceful lull.

People can say whatever they want to me right now and I'll be sleeping like a baby while listening to Mills Brothers.

    Good find. Wonderful music.

  • Not your fault!

The "reply below" becoming a new message is a bug in YouTube. If you inline reply and hit refresh it screws up and becomes a new message.

After you hit "Post Comment" you must immediately go "Back" on the browser or close the page and when you return to it, it will be listed properly as a reply.

It's been like this for 6+ months but YouTube never fix this bug.

  • pwnt

  • So why do you people have to ruin a good site? This is a great band - great music - great harmonies. Good find.

  • I LOVE CHERIOS!!!!

    =]

  • coorsnpizza is so fucking retarded it is hard to comprehend ...coors sucks by the way

  • hey go fuck your self nigger butt face

  • Engrish?

  • this song is sick when youre stoned

  • Hahaha ! yeah man omg this is fuxin awesome!!

  • As a matter of fact, I think this song is about smoking weed. They're all black and seeing what decade it came from, censorship was much more enforced than in music today.

  • you dumarse mofo, weed had hardly been discovered by th 40s they're talking about tobacco. so.. As a matter of fact, I think you're a stupid fuckin stoner.

  • Well yeah, he IS a stoner, obviously. And this song IS pretty obviously about just tobacco. Back in the day before TV, listening to radio people where much more reflective than now.

But if you read Malcom X's autobiography you see that reefers were an integral part of "Negro" culture at the time (40's on) and a lot of the black songs of the day were subversive comments on weed culture that the white folks didn't get...

  • weed hasnt been discovered yet. ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED?!! cavemen we're smoking weed before they could even communicate through speech. why else would they invent fire?

  • I believe the same, listen to the lyrics, its the most perfect but kinda sad lyrics you can hear when youre just smokin your J, hehe thank god i can smoke weed legally ^^

  • I think this song is sick all the time. I don't think it is about smoking weed or tobacco. It is just about smoking. And weed was widely used before 1940. You should take a history class or read a book maybe, kamalalalala.

  • I just posted the same song off Brunswick 6525 -78rpm."My Honey's Lovin' Arms on the flip side".

  • My version is from Jan-.1933 and I posted a video response.Glen Gray's version is from March 1932

  • awesome song to blaze to

  • so I REALLY like these kinds of music but I never know what category of music they fit in so that I can find more. can anyone help me out?

  • As for category im not sure. The old rythem and blues proly? also check out (if you dont know already) billie holiday or roy brown and also the ink spots. VERY good bands haha

  • Why do they fade, that phantom parade of love?

  • thank you for posting this song it is amazing.

  • They all have really strange noses. Check it out, I just cant get over the noses

  • I know! Like Jimmy Durante.

    Ha cha cha cha cha!

  • afroman of the last century??

  • LMAO Dan..

  • My dad heard this song and asked in all seriousness:

    ''do balck people really smoke?''

  • simply great

  • these guys are amazing

thank god for Thank You for Smoking otherwise i would have missed this!

  • Beautiful, peaceful, simply classic.

  • awesome thanks for posting! :)

  • It's the song that always runs through my head when something bad happens.

  • haha so great

  • those smoke rings of white and blue

they set my state of mood :]

  • Thanks for posting. Best song to get high with.

  • hehe too true

  • This is second version of this song! From very late 30's. Very rare!!!

  • who did the orginal? do you know?

  • First version is from 1933 and second version (this song) is from 1939.

  • No, this is the 1933 version. Great channel, btw

  • No! This is version from 1939!

  • I don't think it's a crime since they're 69 & 75 years old, so if you PM me your email address I'll send you both versions in mp3. You'll know the '33 because it's superior. Cheers.

  • Please tell me how you know it's the '39 version.

  • I know the Mills Bros so good that i recognize versions when i listen song. I have a lot of their song and i have '33 version and this '39 version.

  • Let's exchange email & get to the bottom of this, haha.

  • You ARE good, kid. I considered the fact that this or another could be an alternate take, but I couldn't find any info on it. I had never heard the version that you sent me:

    watch?v=D_5lnuGkQFU&feature=related

They are incredibly similar takes. Incredibly close for one afternoon, let alone for two takes seperated by 6 years & the Atlantic Ocean. I have the 1939 recording they did in London. It's a completely different arrangment with a much slower tempo. I'll send it to you if you want.

  • I have a lot of recordings from 1939: Jeepers Creepers, FDR Jones, Shine without Crosby, Mulberry Bush, Stardust etc. Do you mean this songs?

  • I know your English is far better than my Polish, so you get a lot of latitude. I have the Mills Brothers' 1939 version, do you want me to send it to you?

  • Yes, I'll check it. I'll give you email on message. I hope that you will not any problems because last time i had some errors with email.

  • You know what alternate takes are, right? This version or the one in the video you sent me; one of these is a 1933 alternate take. Just because they are different takes, that doesn't make this one the '39. You've got a great ear, so when you hear the version I have, you'll know.

  • It was reportedly written by the Casa Loma Orchestra's arranger. I think they did the first recording of it in 1932, although the Mills Blue Rhythm Band also did one in '32. This might be the original with lyrics, I'm not sure. Close enough though, haha.

  • Love this song.
