  • @naikou4lyfe Trek Life :-)

  • 1st Infantry!

  • damn...

  • A DRUM MACHINE has no soul, one of the iLLest things iv ever read., since when do machines made out of wires and doo dads have soul? not the literal meaning of course. But drums as percussion have soul. a guitar has soul, a piano has soul. a saxophone has SOUL. these are beautiful instruments that last. yet put a sax that has SOUL and a Drum machine that Doesn't, and YOU can still make some amazing music.

  • Kev and homie were puttin down baars.

  • how does he get the bass? does he filter the sample through his mixer and just lets the low down? or how the fuck do his basses sound always that bad ass.. i'm really jealous.. please let me know.

  • @elcattiv0 he talks about it in different places. he says people always say his bass is so dope and crazy but there isnt much to it... according to him

he just takes a bass tone from the sample (filtered) or loads one that he saved and tunes it until he finds the pitch he wants, and then just puts it in the 16 levels on the mpc. all the magic after that is just his ear for fresh bass lines and rhythm

his beats are all masterful blends of "simplicity" and polyrhythmic sophistication. genius

  • Ha! Trek-Life was going in, and Kev Brown ofcourse with that soulfulness.

  • Como se llama el Artista Del Vinilo??

  • rewaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnddddddddddddd

  • We need more from u KeV, don't keep us waiting!

  • what beat is this called

  • RAAB essentially what that means is that the drum machine ITSELF doesn't have soul, but the person working it does (plus inanimate objects of any kind don't have a soul).

It's what YOU put into it,it's how YOU freak your samples and it's how YOU put things together.

  • Hands down my favorate producer right now. Kev is killin em! I mean this beat is disgusting! And the fact that he made it from that record. I would have never touched that record but he killed it. Real MD hip hop! Respect!

  • Anything can be sampled.I don't care if it's music from an old Crest commercial or polka music. It's how you chop the shit and flip it.Kev is a master @ this stuff.I wish more ppl knew about him.

  • what drum machine is he using?

  • @Johaaanson Kev uses an Akai MPC2000XL - he's been using that machine since day one.

  • @UpAboveRecords Just fyi, its not a drum machine its a sampler

  • @UpAboveRecords no, first it was the Akai S20, then the 2000xl

  • @UpAboveRecords FALSE. he used an akai s20 when he started. im pretty sure.

  • @UpAboveRecords no, he used to use an Akai s20 and track it out to a yamaha 4-track recorder.

  • Look at Kev sittin there like he aint a damn genius.

  • kev brown is a dope beat maker...and that guy at the end spittin was sick too

  • how to make it look simple.

dont try this at home you might lose patience.

it takes time when u chop samples but man. .. what i nice feeling once you get it done.

  • where can i find i find the track on the beat or is it just a freestyle one never released?

  • @Fazer88 the beat has not been released. I heard it's up for sale if a serious artist wants to buy it. Hit him up!

  • @UpAboveRecords How do you get in touch with Kev? I'd really appreciate it if you could PM me some info, cuz I'm dead serious.

  • @UpAboveRecords Really appreciate the info. I just emailed him.

  • Golden hands.

  • shit was dope and even doper how that kid got up and rhymed over the beat.

    Took the opportunity muhahaha =D

  • @RapBattleNerd I agree, but that was not a "kid", that was Trek Life, really dope rapper and member of the whole Mello Music Group, which is basically one of the dopest crews in hip-hop these days.

  • Workin magic on the MPC man love it!!

    JrA

  • peace... Kev Brown...

    Real Hip Hop...

  • I liked to see him do some thing with Roots or Rocky Steady? Straigtht up and down!!

  • 3:05-3:55

A Kev Brown beat without a Bassline, is like Kev Brown without glasses...I can't see it!!!!

For some reason, I'm feeling a Andre' 3000 and Kev Brown collabo on this.

  • @jermson Andre 3000 would be dope! Andre needs to take notice

  • I'm still trying to figure how he listens to samples??....Because I would have considered the song he samped from to be worthless and wack, but he used it and made it mad soulful and dope!! Kev Brown is underrated! This was extremely inspirational! I have to agree... It's not what you use but how you use it!!

  • @prettdboy WORD! I've been thinking the exact thing! Kev is really dope on the samples. Even on those Commentary joints he made. Pure genius.

  • @prettdboy

i think that if the sample itself doesnt sound at least a tiny little bit hip hop or has some life in it,

it wont be good to chop

no mather how much you fuck around with it (pitch, strech, etc....)

  • dude got an Ear for Choppin' he listens with his soul.. think about it..

  • @prettdboy Yeah I agree. I have a bad habit of dismissing corny old records. I need to train my ears to hear potential dopeness. Kev Brown is a master at that.

    Respect to the MC too.

  • @prettdboy he can chop... all in the ear.. anyone can find loops,, im workin on it too, take years of practice,,, youll get it though man keep working at it... stay up

  • @prettdboy the more you practice listening the more your ear will hear

  • @prettdboy totally agree~

  • Comment removed

  • @prettdboy It takes practice. Best thing to do in my eyes is use every sample you come across even if you don't like it. It really makes you use your ears and creativity true it might not be the best song you've created but its good practice none the less

  • yo worldcreations, its not what you got; its how you use it, nah mean? but yo kev brown is a problem and continues to wreck shit; i love his work

  • i know man

still yo mpcs are so much more fun to use than pc programs with contolers im tired of it and i had so much fun when i tried a mpc that i think its the best thing to use

  • @worldcreations thats wassup and i would tell u agree but youre talken to sum one who has never used one but im lookin into investing soon enough, ive been using the Dr. Rex modulator in Reason for Sampling.. its not bad at all

  • seriously go to a music store and try a mpc 2500 its pretty much like a 2000xl

its BANANAS its like the diference between driving a honda and a ferrari

you'll be convinced that you need one

im going to get a 2000xl because it looks nicer(old school grey)

    it uses floppies

and its about the same os as the 2500 and the 1000

  • word this guy doesnt get enough

he sould be in front page of xxl or source

you know.. rocking beats for common, nas and all types of people

    this video make's me think

    DAMMM I NEED A 2000XL !

  • if someday i go to america i'll go for sure visit that store ^^
