  • I love the engine cage and spare tire! Badass setup you have!

  • LOL "all steal work done by me" really? who lost their stuff? cool ride, bud

  • it's call ocotillo wells....but any ways nice buggy

  • sick. What's your rear suspension set up? any where I can see some pictures of that??

  • @nsmsam The rear suspension is boxed in stock trailing arms with dual shock mounts going to the cage on the inside of the car. I have 30mm rear torsion bars when the car is painted blue. Stock torsion bars are 26 mm. The 30mm are much better for jumping :). The front end is cut off right now and is being converted to long travel.

  • Hey, i finally have a freshly rebuilt 1641 longblock and will be putting the top end together. I have been looking at the different kits and i noticed that your bug, in the camo paint stages (:50), had a 6-7 peice f/g kit. I really like the rear fenders compared to the ones on the other kits, would you remember the type/manufacture of that kit? I would like to go one piece front, but it looks like you have to do alot of modification to the front. Ever find a replacement engine?

  • The fiberglass fenders were installed when I got the car. I installed the front 1 piece hood that the car has on after the blue paint job and it attaches to the front cage with 3 pins shown at 1:06. I gave the car to my brother and he put in a 2100cc engine with a built transmission and now the car is getting a long travel front beam and possibly painted black and yellow.

  • where is the gas tank all i saw was bar

  • Under the hood in an aluminum tank. shown at 0:58 in the video. Goiing to install a fuel cell in the rear of the car though instead.

  • dude just wanted to say great job and it looks cool as hell i just got a 1962 baja and could use some tips on how to restore it . if you could

  • Now thats really nice, wish i could start on mine, but i need an engine first! Your fenders, are they stock and cut up? I like how they look! And you have a nice cage aswel! What exactly does the cage attach to? the chassis/floor pan assembly?

  • The rear fenders are after market fiberglass and the hood is a one piece fiberglass hood. The front of the cage ties into the VW beam and the rear ties into the steel transmission horns in the rear. I'm looking for an engine too right now and will build your cage in exchange for a decent engine if you want.

  • I have been trying to get an engine for a while now. They usually come up on craigslist . com but most of the time, they be a little out of my reach. There are 2 VW engine part retailers here in houston, so im going to rebuild the one that I have. As for the cage, my baja will be for road use only (i love the way those things look is all!) So my cage (if i decide to add one) will be mostly for looks.

  • great work

  • Nice fab work on the cage!

  • Great tube fab. front & rear! Have you considered stiffer springs in front (or softer in rear)? Maybe wouldn't nose down as much if springs weren't allowing so much compression. Had vw baja when I was a kid (not as nice as yours) and they are LOTS OF FUN. Props.

  • you fabricated the front end yourself?

  • Ya I fabricated the whole cage and car myself. I bought a Pro-tools bender and notcher for 700 bucks and bent all the tube in my driveway by myself. Really not to difficult if your good at Geometry, Angles and welding. I also welded in titanium pins and limit stops in the front to prevent breaking another ball joint, since i dont have a king pin front end.

  • damn, props man... i'd like to do that but dont have the extra cash... :/

    whats your tire specs?

  • I've ran several tires, the ones pictured are 30"*9.5" BFG mudders in the rear and a smaller BFG allseason in the front. I've ran a 31*10.5 BFG alterain and they preform better in sand however the bigger tire lost lots of power. Also I now run Mickey Thompson 31"*7.5 bajas in the front.

  • Why did you get rid of the camo???

Cool nonetheless, I also like your custom fab stuff. Do you find that your new front bumper reduces your angle of attack?

  • The camo paint was just a 10 min. operation with a few cans of spray paint. I decided to go for a cleaner looking baja so i repainted it blue in my drive way with a spray gun. And yes that bumper has saved alot of front end damage from ocuring in glamis sand dunes. It scoops the front end up rather then pounding straight into it.
