1) can you tell me if there is a way to turn on the HD video recording and let it keep running and have the lcd go off to save batteries while recording? I want to hook it to a bike and don't need the lcd to be on and want to save batteries.
2) Also can you tell me how many GB it is to record an hour of HD on it?
3) Have you tried running a battery from full to empty while recording continuous HD video? How long did it last?
I haven't tried running the batt from full to empty runnin steady yet. I know you need a lot of Gigs of memory to to that, mine lasted a little over eleven minutes with 4 gigs and then shut off automatic.
Thank you for the advice. I was thinking about this camera but the size of the video files makes it probably impractical. I tried to read info on it but even the pentax site does not give specifics that I want to know. Some cameras have a max card size that they accept too like 8gb or 16gb, this camera may not even take the 32gb cards, I would also like to know if someone filled up a 32gb card with it, or does it auto shut off every 4gb which may be the video size limit per video file.
I looked in the manual, the movie recording time is approx. 65 minutes with a full charge. Yes, four gigs is a lot of space to use in a short time, but, I can probably set the camera to use less space by taking a lower quality video. There are a number of pixel levels with this camera. It also has built in memory, use it by removing memry card. I don't know the stats on it yet.
I think you will need a 32 gb card to get 65minutes from what I have been reading since it saves to m-jpeg which takes much more space then other video compression types. I saw the lower resolutions are available but I only wanted to use the HD video so it looks like this cam won't work for me as 32gb cards are too expensive and I wanted to video like 6 hours per day which would cost me over $400 in cards alone.
I couldn't find any info in the manual on charging other than with the charger. I need to buy a back up battery, they run out fairly quick if you are reviewing and editing your clips (LCD screen uses a lot of power).
Huge difference in clarity of sound and picture, I almost don't want to post any more footage that I already have from my other camera. The draw back is I only have one battery so far and it also uses up memory incredibly quick.
I'm much more pleased with the sound and picture quality, it uses a lot of memory and I only have one battery so far so I am taking the old one along also for back up.
looks terrific, Im stilling looking to replace the one that I had stolen, Im thinking the sanyo wh1, the w80 seems great did you say it does HD movies?
Yes, according to the description it claims to take HD at 30 frames per second. I really like this camera but, it uses much more memory than the older camera. A fair trade off for me considering the much better sound and picture quality. I'm off to buy more memory tomorrow. The 4 gig card will fill up with 11 minutes of non stop video.
ok i just got the blue one yesterday... do the pictures seem to be a bit grainy to you? mine are really grainy and come out blurry.

wow .. the audio quality chances a LOT when you start recording from the new cam .. it sounds like robo voice!
But still, compared to what canon and (forgot who else) is offering right now .. this seems to be my new camera :) thanks for the insight

I'll have to look into the other questions.

Six hours a day would be a lot of gigs and batteries for this camera, your right this one won't work for you.

I have a question: Does the camera battery charge through USB or only through the charger? Thanks.

There is an optional ac adapter for using the camera at home to edit or what ever but no USB charging from what I see so far.
