  • Michael Lucarelli's version is much better!

  • I don't want to bash that guy for pressing the dislike button, mistakes do happen.

  • No one could harmonize the bass line and the melody line like Chet.

  • The best guitar player ever walked on this planet. Period.

  • Hey there! Have you considered intellectus 424 diet (do a google search)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my father lost crazy amounts of weight with it.

  • R.I.P., Mr. GuitarMan

  • Amazing.

  • A Master ............

  • @radioamfm100 THE master.

  • @daffydoug Where would you put Andrés Torres Segovia ????

  • @radioamfm100 What do you mean?

  • @radioamfm100 In a box next to my dick. He was overrated.

  • @capitalismforme And maybe a bit (ahem) overinflated, too. Read as POMPOUS.

  • ''You're good, but you're no Chet Atkins''

  • @Matthijs3476 im positive every single person that has played his type has been told that haha so true

  • @BobDylansDream3 Actually, once on a cruise, someone said that to Chet. No kidding, look it up.

  • man.. mostly everyones comments are paragraphs..

  • süperrrr

  • I am so glad that you put this back on. I love it & couldn't get it for awhile. Thanks so much Doug. GOD bless.

  • Hello Chet. In this song I find you.

  • Daffydoug

Did Chet ever record the 'other' Ave Maria, the one by Bach/Gounod? The version

of it by Karen Carpenter just brings me to tears every time I hear it. The Bach

'accompaniment' with the Gounod melody would have been a natural for Chet

    Atkins' style.

I liked the Version 1 and Version 2, no matter what. Thanks.

    W8ROI

  • @W8ROI To my knowledge, he never did. I'm only aware of two versions that he did on his records and I think I have them all!

  • I am moved to tears!! Wow!

  • beautiful sounds absolutely heavenly:)

  • Ca. 37 years ago I had the wonderful experience of travelling with Chet, as well as Floyd Cramer and the great Boots Randolph. Chet, as well as the other two named, were not only super players, but were fine Americans, and true gentlemen. I miss them, their music, and their company.

  • nikumuMINA AS long as I can remember, just over the railroad tracks on the dumpier side of town is a sample of Hell. I believe there are very good people every where and I'm sure we will be judged by the smiles we have given and the tears we've caused. I prefer to think God is tinkering around with whatever he does and is smiling because Chet in out in the south forty playing to the clouds...listen...ya just gotta smile.

  • thanks for the post you know I saw Chet in Vancouver Canada and half way through this song he flopped a note It was interesting because I thought to myself maybe I heard wrong Next day in the paper areviewr said he thought Chet made an error and in an interview he asked Chet who admitted the mistake funny thing how 15,000 people were prepared to accept that they heard wrong rather than Chet making an error Chet was a mix of all that is good about guitar He will be missed

  • @cjblaster When I consider all the millions of notes Chet probably played on his guitar during his lifetime, I'm think an occasional flub is par for the course.

He was still human. But I have only heard a couple flubbed notes on his released recordings (and I have them all) and maybe a couple on live videos. If it were me playing there would probably be dozens of them!

  • @daffydoug

Chet was human? That's news to me man. =)

  • @daffydoug I have heard few mistakes of his as well. Funny thing is, when you watch a video of him playing live, you will sometimes see him wince just a little like he hit a bad note. When you go back and listen, it sounds perfect, but he heard or felt something that was not to his liking even though you'd never know it by listening. He was a perfectionist, and well deservedly so. He could afford to be!

  • @cjblaster That's funny. Long live Chet.

  • Chet ; I an a fan you didn't know about.

I have always enjoyed you music.

Great job. Wonderful music it soothes the savage beast in me..

    Thanks

    Friend.

  • I love this version by Chet, my idol, along with Jerry Reed.

Such wonderful talents, and thank you for sharing this one, which i didn't have.

  • instant boner

  • This is not Chet. This is George Bush.

  • @sergifal No, actually this IS Chet.

  • @daffydoug I do not think they look alike. I cannot understand why people always write they look the same. There is no resemplance

  • 1 person doesn't know truly good music when they hear it, probably a Justin Bieber fan who would dare to click dislike on Chet Atkins playing.

  • This is the standard for the rest of us.

  • All of Chet's music is beatiful. Glad my Dad raised me on Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Ray Charles, and Elvis, otherwise I might be ignorant to this amazing music.

  • veryyyyyyyyyyyy niceeeeeeeeeeeee AVE MARIAAAAAAAA

  • oldstuffhaus's comment deserves more than 100 thumbs up!

  • I've logged 71 years on the planet. I have heard the name Chet Atkins many times and always associated him strictly with country music. Just dicovered youTube, yes , there is hope for us old farts..my father told me years ago he hoped I could recognize a wonderful thing when I encountered it...I have just encountered Chet Atkins, many years too late and now stand in awe of his grace and pure beautiful talent. Dad also said "Too soon we get old, too late we get smart" amen. Heaven has great music

  • @oldstuffhaus Comments like that make my day, make me feel very good inside, and make it worth my time sharing Chet's music with the world.

I have over 400 of these vids, and I think if you'll give them a listen, you'll see that Chet's guitar could capture ANY kind of musical mood. They always said he could play "Everything from Bach to Rock with every stop in between." (And yes, a little country, too!)

  • @oldstuffhaus

Wow. I am only 22 and I am also in awe of Chet. I feel good.

What is it about his playing? Its way more than just striking notes. It must be something about his attitude that I can hear that is so memorizing. Absolute control...and honesty? Confidence?

  • @R3ADMORE ... Young friend... you might want to check out his (Chets) friend, Doc Watson, as well.

    Peace

    Gill

  • Always listen to Dad, Stuffy. Mine turned me on to Chet was he would appear on Johnny Cash's show on ABC around 1970. It didn't quite sink in until I was 18 in '78. I saw Chet, Earl Klugh and George Benson put on a guitar clinic on Chet & Friends, a PBS special. Insane-AND you can catch some of it on here if you look.

  • @oldstuffhaus Your words were amazing for me. You are right... My dad who is a guitarist and taught me to play since i was a young boy used to reference Chet Atkins. I never really knew Chet's GIANT guitar imagination and his true talent until i looked him up on Youtube. Very GOOD!!

  • @oldstuffhaus

Well I'm only 32 years on this planet. I never heard of him until youtube got popular a couple of years ago. Guess what, I feel the same. Might I suggest you search for his version of 'The Entertainer" and Mr. Bojangles. They are beautiful.

  • @oldstuffhaus maybe he is in hell...

  • @oldstuffhaus I'm only a couple of years behind you but had the good fortune to find Chet (and to recognize his versatility) in my teens. I;ve played (at) the guitar for years but never really seriously until the last few. (Yeah, really late.) Couple of years ago I found Chet's protege Tommy Emmanuel. Look him up on YouTube or elsewhere and I think you'll find Chet's legacy alive and well. And he's a really nice guy. Met him & took one of his seminars. But, Chet's still the greatest ever!

  • @oldstuffhaus I had the good fortune to find Chet in the 50's and recognized his immense versatility even then. A couple of years ago I found one of his proteges - Tommy Emmanuel. Look him up and I think you'll find Chet's legacy alive and well. He always recognizes Chet in his performances and is a really great guy.

  • i need the tab for this...can anybody help?...cant find it.

  • Beautiful. The strings in the backround are also gorgeous. Mr. Guitar will always

    be missed.

  • i like to smoke weed

  • One Of A Kind!!! A True Genius!!!!!!! Rest In Peace Thou Beautiful Guitarist.

  • Sure miss Chet Atkind.

  • The Master of the guitar.

  • mad respect to this man i am a die hard death metal head and this is probably the craziest and sickest thing i have ever hear

  • Ave Maria, Gratia plena, Dominus tecum, Benedicta tu in mulieribus, Et benedictus fructris ventris tui, Jesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora pro nobis peccatoribus, Nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae, Amen.
  • @68sgstandard you do, and you'll clean it up...

  • t th thi this this i this is this is a this is am this is ama this is amaz this is amazi this is amazin this is amazing this is amazing!
  • to play this music u gotta have the heart practise..i love classical chet atkins is the man i could play this song too:)tremelo style

  • Brings tears to the eyes whenever I hear it and reminds me of a sunset evening.....just beautiful

  • Is there any song or piece in this world he couldn't play?????

    The answer is NO.

  • of course its one guitar. any classical or finger picking style plays bass and melody together.

  • Comment removed

  • @eltrentoro

I'm not surprised you said that because Back in the forties when Chet was first on the radio, he was accused of being two people when it was just him. They always said "That Chet guy is pretty good, but who's 'that playing along with him?

But it was all Chet and one guitar and NO overdubbing. No, this guitar cut of Ave Maria is Chet SOLO.

  • @daffydoug I'm not sure how anybody could perceive two guitars in this recording unless they were on hard drugs.

  • @eltrentoro you're wrong, is just one guitar. If you don't play guitar maybe you'll never understand. ONLY ONE GUITAR

  • @eltrentoro If you played guitar and took it seriously, you'd be able to hear that there is just ONE guitar at work here, though in Chet's hands that's worth a hundred professional guitarists. Seriously though, learn some music.

  • @eltrentoro

Sounds like one guitar to me. Chet's worth three guitarists, so I can see where the confusion comes from.

  • Hey Respectthewilderness why don't you go be a dick some where else?

  • classic & pure best describe this

  • Good, genius, joselito

  • hes not moving.. my computer has bad lag today

  • It's a photo :p

  • Thanks for posting this song Doug. I am a classical player but have always admired Chet's body of work. There will never be another like him.

  • stobaksov, that was exactly what i was thinking. Except the part about the horse....and the midget

  • По технике исполнения не очень сложная композиция. Но ето прежде всего подтверждает, что все гениальное просто.

  • malmsteen, EVH, Steve Vai, Buckethead, Blackmore-all the great rockers look up to Mr. Atkins. Respectthewilderness by feeding some wolves with your bad self.

  • i agree with your teemlee51, good words.

  • fool

  • i prefer listening to the bach's sonatas for violin from yamashita than this actually.

  • @Respectthewilderness go stick a violin........

  • Did Chet Atkins play the nylon guitar he's holding with a pick? I see him in photos resting it on his right leg, and it makes me wonder.

  • ive never seen him play any type of guitar without his trademarked thumbpick

  • I like this version. Thanks for posting

  • very beautiful. (T_T)... i know a guitarist named Pat Groagan, who played with him once. He does the two songs at once also.

  • great moment

  • Eryan , du hast recht, nimmt davon wasst du brauchen kennst. oh, ja ich binn niederlander

  • It is divine, I was wondering if people only played it in tremolo, but this is superb.

  • I hear you. I'm glad to find this version. I like it so much better than the tremolo. The accompaniment is a nice touch too.

  • did not know george bush played the guitar!

  • Bush?? That's Harrison Ford, silly.

  • Look at him with a beard he is actually Lincoln

  • There is one thing that sucks about this track. The backround track that comes in? It should be just solo guitar... Shame on whatever producer thought that was a good idea. Chet does it justice fine there is no need for the backing track... It takes away fromt he purity of it.

  • agreed.

  • i know what your sayin man

  • Yeah, I was kinda hoping it was a solo, but enjoyed the arrangement nonetheless (well, maybe a little less). He produces one the cleanest sounds of any acoustic player ever.

  • It is solo save the background music which dosent really affect anything

  • @GotAbortion

What a horrible nick, particularly for this song! You're darn right about the background synth, though.

  • @GotAbortion Agreed, it didn't need a thing except him playing.

  • dont like it like this it sounds better the classical tremolo way

  • right

  • maen! his tone is perfect

  • it takes a lot of skill and practice to make a guitar sound like that

  • True!! Atleast one week or two :P

  • "listening to this, their is absolutely NO QUESTION who was the master!"

Absolutely, right on! So moving, so beautiful.

  • What CD is this on? Maybe I can buy it somewhere.

  • This was from one of his last CD's "Almost Alone"

    Daff

  • Daff, I thank you very much for that information. It helped me to find the CD. Appreciatively, Chris

  • y everyone has to be so political ?i bet Chet never had in mind tat he's "proud to be American"when he's playing Ave Maria.i tink at some point he might forgot he's an American coz music is music n music is for all n fuk those who said Chet doesnt noe to shred.if u don like Chet js fuck off elsewhere.y care2view Chet's stuff? u like shredin go search4shreddin idiot.. i luv COB those stuffs too bt Chet is Chet .don ever try to make comparison when it comes to music ..unless u dono wat music is ..

  • thanks .... everywhere just people who say "our music" is 'better' an al that stuff... please listen to "your" musik and let the other ones listeh to "their" musik.

musik is something to enjoy and not something made to fights about whos the best! (sry 4 bad englich im austrian ^^)

  • like who?

  • Let's stay on task folks - this is just pretty music.

    Take a breath!

  • Sounds like a nylon guitar

  • Check your piano if it sounds like this.

  • Gorgeous music. Thanks for posting this.

  • This is +10 and then some!!!!!!

  • Obviously you made a mistake by clicking on this link.

The music performed by Chet in the guitar is almost 200 years old. Millions and millions of people were move up to tears by the Schubert Ave Maria. In this arrangement for guitar, Chet succeeded in getting so much emotion by heavy soft slowness and his rope fingering.

A music for heaven and forever, not for hell !

But youre undoubtedly too young still to feel such emotions. May be in 20 years !

    In the meantime continue sleeping!

  • I was referring to the original poster of the text within my quotation; not Mr Guitar. It would seem as though you replied to myself - I was lambasting the moronic poster who questioned Chet's ability.

I am glad that I'm not the only person who fights the corner of fantastic music with such vigour!

  • You're clearly a moron and I no longer wish to debate this with you.

I like Music, not bright light and fire.

Why don't you go put a Nickelback album on and fuck your sister? Again.

Anybody who has studied the guitar will realise Chet Atkin's influence on the development of modern technique.

I'm a fan of Rock music, because I appreciate all musical styles. Whereas you're probably sitting there, typing this in your oil-stained denim, occasionally glancing at your mother thinking "Mmmm..."

  • Chet always admitted that in every genre of music there were better pickers than himself.

BUT, nobody did as much diverse music over more time and as well as Mister Guitar. He loved to play and was kind enough to share his passion with us. Thanks, Chet!

  • The reason Chet said that is he was such a humble man. But every guitar player worth their salt have all given it up to Chet. but no arguement with you. I miss Chet alot. What a hero we lost in Chet.

  • i don't know the words in english, but in german we said: i have a "gänsehaut"...

    great tune, chet!!!

  • Well said ---- From a hard chore Chet fan

  • What word is this"chore" you mean CORE as in hardcore?

  • I looked up "gänsehaut" in the internet "Free translator" and it said "Goose-Struck". So either you got a "bird-strike" from a flying goose, or perhaps you were so "touched" by this tune your body hairs stood up on end... a phenomenon we call: "Having Goosebumps". Thanks to daffydoug for posting all of these.

  • the one and only!

  • Fantastic

  • You apparently have no taste for good music and further more he is no idiot, and yes he can shred. Bet if you attempted this tune you would screw it up ass hole. Long live Chet !!

  • Actually on some of chets earlier recordings has has used sweep picking techniques(known as the chet super lick) way b4 ANY shred guitarist was born into the music business.

  • This is Chet atkins you're bumbling about. This man never did anything to deserve the F word said negitively in the same sentence as his name. no1 from GB can even touch Chet's playing. Go listen to your fag rock leave the greats to us who realy love music

  • What's even more amazing is so many europeans thinking so much of themselves. You dumbasses haven't even figured out how to bathe on a regular schedule and long ago gave away any semblance of freedom. So, while you sit in your friggin' pathetic little "flat" stinking up the world around you just remember we don't think a whole hell of a lot more of you than you us. Pathetic fuck.

  • Talking of stinking up the world, perhaps you might take yourself back to your illustrious record in places like Vietnam. Your sort of American sure knows how to make the rest of the world stink. It pains me that I have American friends, and then cunts like you open their mouths and give the impression that all Americans are a waste of space, as you clearly are.You really are a sad fucker, who needs to get a life, instead of spewing crap.

  • well, I'm an American and I like Chets playing, but as far as no one from great britain being able to play like that? No...I'd say Julian Bream could smoke him.

I hear Jingoism and stupidity in all of you clowns. Drop it.

  • then what are you listening to it for

  • Your grandfather had good taste.

  • Can he shred??? Thats like asking if you are a dumbass with no taste in music. this version has so much heart but you would no nothing about that. Dont be so careless with your coments next time. you're talking about an american icon and alota ppl's hero including mine....punk

  • Well I totally agree with you. Chet's been one of Mark Knopfler guitar's teacher. See the result...

No, this man has done so much that he's a master !

    Hi from France !

  • God, what an idiotic tosser you are, hardsell08. Grow up and get a kife.

  • God, what an idiotic tosser you are, hardsell08. Grow up and get a kife.

  • Very nice. Great version of that song. RIP Guitarman.

  • Gah that's beautiful, Thanks for posting this up m8.

    Cheers,

    -Batman001

  • It is indeed one guitar. If you want to see jaw dropping, find him playing Stars and Stripes Forever.

  • omg =)

  • super !!!!

  • A song that touches everybodys heart.

  • simply beautiful
