To be electable in '97, Labour had to adopt certain Tory positions; now it's the Tories doing the same - the country is more liberal than it has ever been so the Tories have to pretend to be more left-leaning. if i remember growing up under a tory goverment they cut nhs education and the rich got richer and th epoor got poorer the gap between the 2 got bigger every year thatcher was in power. they introduced poll tax and it was very hard to get into a college unless you came from a private sector, conservative's have always been for the rich.. they are just a stuck up snobby party that look down on poor and ordinary people.

To be electable in '97, Labour had to adopt certain Tory positions; now it's the Tories doing the same - the country is more liberal than it has ever been so the Tories have to pretend to be more left-leaning. The most natural next step for this will be a proper Labour party being formed during the Tories' hopefully short reign - one that doesn't have problems with taxing proportionately. Perhaps in the future the parties won't need to court the favour of rich people; that would change things.

It is easy to forget what Britain was like in 1997 - the NHS on its knees, schools crumbling, crime doubled and millions of families still scarred by unemployment over three million and interest rates still recovering from hitting 15 per cent on Black Wednesday.
And while we know that everything is not perfect now, Britain is, without doubt, a better, more prosperous and fairer place.

He may pretend to have our interests at heart, but the facts are clear. He wants to scrap the legal guarantee that gives us four weeks paid holiday, the right to be consulted about changes at work and our entitlement to parental leave - denying the legal right for parents to spend time with their newborn babies in the critical first few weeks. That's just three examples - but Cameron's threatening dozens more of your rights.

We need business, law and order, education and health in this country. I can't see the Labour Party providing us with this, since they have failed dramatically post 1997.
Opening a Sure Start centre, to give a family with far too many kids to care for free toys, is only an encouragement for them to sap more child benefits with more kids.
Education has been bastardized! Results may be higher, but quality at an all time LOW!
When I graduate from university, thanks to Labour, it will be tough!

The Northern Irish peace process was started under Major, after Thatcher had held back the IRA. Blair then released all the terrorists and put a smiley face on the end of it, claiming he did it. High exams results don't mean good education. The NHS is unclean, bloated and inefficient. As for Northern Irish peace, what about the over 400 British soldiers who lie dead because of unjust wars, which have gone ignored and neglected. How about selling our sovereignty so Blair can get more power.

Labour was responsible for a lot of good, particularly in civil rights. But this governemnt is not Labour - its New Labour - the government of Orwell's Big Brother - Compulsory ID cards, DNA databases and detention without trial for as long as they can stretch it. Their attack on Civil liberties in the last 10 years has even caused Labour's Baroness Kennedy to speak out: and I'm speaking as someone who was delighted when they came to power in 1997. They make me sick, now.
