Here's a weird thing. Both Jane and Rosie have played Betty Rubble. Rosie in The Flinstones and Jane in Flinstones in Viva Rock Vegas. That's an interesting fact about this.
Any fans of SA or even peeps who want to get to know it up close and personal, check out the tour videos and blog! (Totally Trucked) Let us know what you think!
Let's face it, Spring Awakening, Rent, Wicked and all of the current popular new broadway shows are amazing but very different and we shouldn't compare them!
Rent hasn't been so popular lately, it's closing in September. But I agree with the other two shows. They should have nice long runs, just like Rent has.
Wicked isn't chessey, its a very good musical, younger kids can relate to it so of course it is going to get more attention by them, it can relate to anyone, has wonderful music, tells a classic story that we all grew up with, with a twist and has very clever funny jokes. i want to see spring awakening it sounds amazing!! and i love Jane!!
Thank you!! Wicked is an incredible show that appeals to a wide range of people. It has an amazing book and incredible music, and it's had some of the greatest talents on Broadway. the attention that Wicked has gotten has been completely deserved, and the fact that people "sing it on the streets" is proof that it's enjoyed by all different kinds of people.
im not sayin wicked isnt amazing. but spring awakening is absolutely the most amazing show. i was the biggest rent fan ever. i never thought anything could top it until i saw spring. going on five times now. =)
Mr. Sheik's music, orchestrated for a small rock band supported by cello and bass, is often gorgeous in its soaring melodies and gentle rhythms, but its lushness can overwhelm Mr. Sater's moody lyrics, artful and evocative though they often are. And we often seem to be hearing the same notes — yearning, tempestuousness, anger — repeated in song after song; the show becomes saturated in a general plaintiveness that can be enervating.
Spring Awakening is fantastic. It's such a great peice of artistry. I saw it when it first came on Broadway. I had read the play it's based on and it's such a refreshing take.
I hate all this exposure. It makes the show so mainstream. I saw it when it was in previews back in November and it was so indie and cool. Now Rosie likes it. I just don't want to see this show become Wicked where the songs got so old and overplayed. I don't want to hear random girls around new york singing bitch of living (which I already have). The only positive thing about the exposure is that these kids' careers are going to sky rocket (hopefully)
well it is supposed to be mainstream. they Wanted everyone, not just theater goers, to like it. i understand what your sayin about wicked tho. i had to stop listening to it so i didnt get sick of it
Ohh..so now the show isn't "cool" because more and more people are appreciating the show and the artistry. It is silly how you whine about a show...on broadway mind you...going mainstream. Well, i am glad more and more people are embracing this show because it is touching teens' lives with its story and message. Don't scowl next time you see hear a "random girl" singing Spring Awakening musical, the chances are that she probably enjoyed that show and loves the musical just as much as you do.

I don't think spring awakening will get as popular as wicked because of it's show content. You can stop bitching now. And besides, these kids have a careers and they want people to love it.
I don't necessarily agree. Wicked is definitely huge, and part of that success is due to the fact that it appeals to a wide range of audiences. However, SA is aimed for a young, fresh audience, and the music and content reflect that. RENT is full of the same material as SA, and while it is closing, look at the crazy success it has enjoyed in its time on Broadway.
i disagree, Rent does have content usually not in a broadway musical but spring awakening's content is much more different than rent. for one thing, spring awakening shows a kids perspective of discovering themselves and the new joy they have, when rent is about adults going through the struggle of aids. there is some similarities such as the music styles, but thats about it.
i love both and they are great shows, but they are extremely far from similar
All shows get exposure when they're new. SA wasn't ever "indie," it was just fresh and different. It's getting the exposure because it's a good show and the cast is immensely talented. And it was already mainstream when it opened on Broadway. Maybe if it was off or off-off it wouldn't be, but the fact is that when they put money and advertising into a show it's already mainstream. And Wicked has gotten the exposure it has because it's an amazing show. (cont)
While Wicked is very different and appeals to a different audience, the shows both have incredible music and books, and they've both featured incredible talent. They've both been recognized at the Tony Awards, and that's as 'mainstream' as theatre gets, although I'm sure you would be complaining if it had lost the awards to a less deserving show. Choose your battles. SA is getting the attention it deserves, nothing more and nothing less.
yayyy for the SA exposure!! :D It makes me very happy that she's mentioned it like.. at LEAST 3 times by now, probably more (one with jon and lea in the audience- they are the most adorable people EVER, just for the record)
and I cannot WAIT for the performance *gets ancy for the 22nd*

Yes but it is still an amazing/popular show but it should not be compared to SA/Wicked and vice versa
