Have you seen more recent interviews by now? Martin is the most charming guy ever! I just think the SOFD was a very difficult time for all of them. Maybe even the most difficult time in their career (I know Mart & Dave had some problems during the Exciter time as well, but I don't think it was as hard as during the time of SOFD.). And I would be annoyed as well with the frontman being wasted as fuck instead of doing some good promotion for the band.

Nowadays electronic music is eminently respectable and DM are finally appreciated for their achievement in music. I think it gives the band a whole new atmosphere, because they don't have to justify what they're doing anymore.

It's so amazing to see this after all these years - I was so bummed to never get a copy of the photo they took either - Dave was so blasted & he was thrusting his groin at me when the pic was taken that I figured I'd never see that photo released. This brings back all the memories of how nervous I was; how Martin was such a prick: Fletch was zero; Alan a gentleman; & Dave was bombed but totally hot and ogled my boobs!

thanks for posting this rare clip. it's very interesting how differently martin and alan answer to the question of 'what if you could turn back the hands of time?'. alan seems like a person to always put humble objectivism on priority when he does navel gazing, while martin seems quite optimistic. (i wouldn't say he's arrogant but he keeps using the phrase "manage oneself", which he thinks he's always capable of). if only those two bipolars were together!

I think a clean Depeche Mode puts on the best live show. Sometimes I can't get myself to watch the Devotional concert b/c Dave is just so messed up. You can tell from his body language and his facial expressions that he was "off his rocker", as Dave put it. But if you close your eyes and listen, his voice is pure velvet. But I still think a problem-free DM puts on the best live show on the planet.
