I totally agree that I was so close to Starry Night that I could easily have picked off a blob of paint - my favourite painting in the world. I also love the Met in New York, the National Gallery in London, and the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay in Paris.
MoMA is my favorite art museum in the entire world. I'd take MoMA over the Louve any day. XD That said, it always scares me how close you can get to the artwork! Secretly, I think that some of the heavy hitters like Starry Night are actually really good copies and the originals are tucked away... (wishful thinking)
Are they the originals? I can't believe they allow the public to walk right up to them like that without being roped off or behind glass. There was a story about someone recently damaging an 80 million dollar Picasso painting in New York's Met last month. If they allow the same access as they do here I can see why it happened.

Yes, they are originals. And yes, you can get sujrprisingly close. The Met is just the same. Both are fantastic museums.
