@printphotos The Australian Commandos (2nd Commando Regiment) are Special Forces that are tasked with direct action and special recovery (hostage rescue and rescue of POWs). They are all static line parachute qualified, and use helicopter, repelling, fast roping and vehicle insertion, but have an amphib capability also. (To see some of their earlier training footage see my video Australian Special Forces 4RAR).
@printphotos In Australia our military is orientated towards standard army infantry and special operations (including Maritime SpecOps- SASR/ CDTs). At this time, our marine capability is limited and we have no direct equivalent to the Royal Marines or USMC. From 2014 Australia will be acquiring two massive Amphibious Assault ships similar to HMS Ocean, and the Australian Army 2nd Battalion (2RAR) will be trained by the Royal Marines and USMC to perform as Marines.

The respect between Aussies, Americans and Kiwis is legendary, its not well known, but in WW1, in the trenches of the western front, a dispute between Pershing and the other allies meant a planned attack would not be with American troops, so a number of Americans dressed as Aussies and went over the top, my Grandad was in the 8Th, he was there, and again in WW2, he fought beside them again. My dad & uncles in Korea, cousins in Viet Nam, fought shoulder to shoulder with US troops, we are Mates.

At this time, our marine capability is limited and we have no direct equivalent to the Royal Marines or USMC. From 2014 Australia will be acquiring two massive Amphibious Assault ships similar to HMS Ocean, and the Australian Army 2nd Battalion (2RAR) will be trained by the Royal Marines and USMC to perform as Marines.
