It's kind of hard considering I live in Charlotte. I'm not saying Columbia is trying to be like Charlotte, but I am saying Charlotte is better by far than Columbia ever could be. And what makes it worse, Columbia is in South Carolina..when Charlotte is in North Carolina, The two cities are too close together and Charlotte already made it's mark. You don't see new skyscrapers popping up everywhere in Columbia like you do Charlotte and traffic in Charlotte shouldn't be compared to traffic in Clba.
Columbia is kinda trashy. Roads are messed up. If this is the capital, It should be a nice looking city. Street signs are worn out. You don't know what street you're approaching because you can't see the street signs because they're worn out and they're not posted on the traffic light posts like other cities. Its like the people in office don't care about the appearance of this city. Two notch and Decker area is an embarrassment. You can't get a good veiw of the river at the riverfront park.
@growingup15 I live here and I love it here. Columbia has a lot of potential but we need people in office to bring out it's potential. The city needs some minor touch ups and It will be awesome. The city's size is perfect for me. I don't want the big city style like Atlanta. I just want the officials in Columbia to recognize the city's worth and make it look good. It will definitely attract more business.
@sna071 i really dont care. columbia is not trying to be charlotte. and Charlotte is not trying to be atlanta. were our own cities. with our own unique ways.
i like columbia having a metro population of 1,000,000 and the heavy traffic with a small skyline. were making our own progress trying to be the technology capital of the Nation
Columbia is a very nice city and laid back, full of nice restaurants, bars, fine dining all over downtown area and it's very safe compared to other cities.
Columbia has nothing to envy from other cities, It has it alll. Would recommend to visit the bars and fine dining on top of downtown buildings.
@mdhfinsc Yeah the Envy part not so true. Columbia Envys alot of Other cities today. Specially Charlotte. you should see some of my Proposed City ideas i have. My ideas will bring Columbia to the Size if not bigger then Charlotte in about 20 years.
@mdhfinsc Well i cant tell you my ideas. i dont want anyone Taking them. and whats stopping me is that i want to present it to the City in a better way then just on paper. i rather Make a Model of all my ideas. On computer and on a Board. like a Miniture City with my Tower ideas or My Entertainment ideas and stuff.
All of you talking bad about Columbia SC are wrong. I don't get how you can hate your own city, where you were born in. People like you is what makes the city bad, I'm glad you're gone or are about to leave. I was not born here but I like it, It's nice and cheap and clean. those who said there is trash on the streets are SO WRONG.
I live in Greenville, SC; well atleast, very colse, Every time I have been to Columbia, all I have seen is run down buildings, homeless people and trash on the side of the rode, some thing shuold be done about this, it is not a way to reprisent SC, Greenville is nicer, AND IT'S NOT EVEN THE CAPITOL. Columbia makes me emmbarased of my state. sorry, also, I argee with @hungry2man I don't care for SC in genaral.
the area near blythewood is nice cause its new and the houses are big and cheap. i can see columbia growing cause the cities around it like Atlanta, raleigh and charlotte are some of the fastest growing cities in the US right now. but honestly they need to get all the ghetto out.
yah columbia can get a little ghetto. i used to live there. its nice there though. i wouldnt recomend walk around the down town area at night though, it is creepy and ghetto.
I live in Columbia and was born and raised here and i really hate this place.i hate South carolina in general.downtown looks like a homeless shelter and most of the buildings downtown is USC so its not really a downtown. charlotte is way better than Columbia.can't wait to graduate and start my career so i can get out of this wackass state and move someplace better.Columbia is never gonna be at Charlotte's level.
See this is what i told the mayor. its people like you that make the city bad. Dont just talk about the problems Do something like i did. I Told mayor bob that people are talking about the problems so much and then they leave. does that get rid of the problem. NO all they did is just left it behind and its still a problem. thats why i took a step up with 4 years of planning, sick and tired of people talking bad something there not helping to fix. i have 52 ideas in planning for the city.
52 Ideas for the city. that will help the city in its population growth in the next 10-25 years also idea to help get rid of crime. ideas along with the cities of columbia idea of getting rid of the homeless problems. and also helping the cities Tourism and Skyline attraction in the next 5-10 years and ideas and some planning for columbia Bussiness growth over the next 10 years and hopefully get rid of the confedrate flag.
Nice vid. I like Columbia but a comment said Columbia and Charlotte are competing. There's a world of difference between Columbia and Charlotte. Maybe Columbia competes but it's one sided, Charlotte is a large international business city while Columbia is a nice little town. Go Cocks!

I don't like Columbia. I used to live in Columbia 2000-2002 and 2004-2005. I live in San Antonio,Texas now. Charlotte is a best than Columbia. San Antonio,Texas is growing a fast than South Carolina. I heard that SC unemployment is too high right now. San Antonio,Tx population 1,351,305 7 th place. Charlotte population 687,456 18 th place Columbia population 127,029 189 th place. Columbia is SUCK COCKS is SUCK TOO
Hey Columbia's Metro population over 1.2 mil. but the downtown population is much much smaller. but thats about to change. the city is on a race to build thousands of new Condos lofts and Apartments.
also wait until 2010 when the new census comes in. the population estiment will change alot.
Hey good video man. I live in Charlotte and go down to Columbia on the regular. I love Riverbanks Zoo and downtown. It's a nice spot for a day trip. I wish Columbia the best. It's only like an hour twenty drive from Charlotte so maybe some of Charlotte's growth can trickle it's way on down to Columbia.
Some of the other cities in South Carolina already hit the million mark in metropolitan population. Columbia is not growing very fast like some other cities. Also, it is bankrupt. Columbia is merely unable to attract businesses and tourists, but I hope Columbia can revive from this disaster, because the city is working hard.
i went to the hydrogen convention in downtown columbia today and they said that the horizon II is planning to break ground soon and the discovery II plsnning to break ground soon also.
Wow. Horizon I and Discovery I are currently under construction, but the parking garages for those buildings are finished and are open. The Discovery Plaza Parking Garage is used for events at the Colonial Center. During such events, it is $5. During weekdays, I think it is around $2 an hour. On the weekends, it is free.
Cool Video! South Carolina is a great state! I am so glad I was born here. I live in the suburb of Columbia called Lexington. I love Lexington and Columbia. They are awesome places.
I can't wait for Columbia to get 2 or 3 more high-rises further north on Main Street near the BOA tower. Will be quite the site driving in on 277 and I-126!
thanks for commenting and yeah i do want to be in arctect but i want to be in a whole bunch of things and i seen you charlotte skyline video and it got me inspired. im not trying to steal your thunder or something i just wanted my city to look good becuase both charlotte and columbia are growing citys and compeating with each other.

I agree you can notice their rebuilding. It changed a bit in the years but probably not as fast as some would desire.

Cool!! I visit columbia occasionally and yea it really is getting bigger :)
Our city's rock :)
A fun fact is that the reason NC was the last state to enter the Civil War was b/c President Licoln called on NC to attack SC (it's sister state)
weird but cool? lol
Daritto7117 3 years ago 2
by that I ment that NC refused and entered on the Confederates side...
not that its something to be proud of but it just goes to show that were still "tight" :)
