  • I enjoyed hearing this song again, the first time I heard it was long after Hank passed but I am a big Hank Sr and Hank Jr. fan and love this version of Deck of Cards.

  • another great song that i will be listing to for the next 60 plus years of my life until or until i go deaf

  • Can't understand such Hypocritical B/S over such an inspirational song!

  • disable comments, will you?

  • Religion...for something thats supposed to bring peace rips everyone apart...its just sad

  • @lilwes2222 Religion isn't supposed to bring peace. Why would you believe that lie? Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ's redemption is what gives people peace and the devil, about whom Jesus warned us, is VERY busy promoting every sort of nonsense (such as this song, church going, "good deeds," inner peace, good intentions, "my personal convictions," "my inner light, consciousness, etc.") to deceive people from reading and believing what God's holy Word ACTUALLY SAYS and learning truth.

  • Hank or Luke the Drifter????? ( or both!) Love this post, THANKS God Bless Hank

  • what a great song! Never heard this one till now! WoW!

  • " One card took out his privates, and spread them on the bench in front of him. The sergeant took a look over and said " Oooh , Snap !"

  • The Scripture is not in a deck of cards, but if you're blind like me, the Bible in Braille weighs so much you're better to carry in your head what it says in this beautiful recitation. The references can be helpful to think about when the world is bombarding your brain with trash that will give you a one-way ticket to Hell if you pay heed to it.

  • @musicmandon1 The Scriptures tell us that they are LIFE to those who find them and health to all their flesh. Some seek God, some find God and most ignore Him. He sought me and found me and was real to me and the gospel provides a supernatural relationship with our great God. Don't believe otherwise. The whole world lies in the power of the evil one but Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father BUT BY HIM. Notice, there was no mention of heaven there.

  • Too bad Hank ignored the holy Word of God for a deck of cards. There is life in the Word of God, to be received by faith. The Scriptures are not in a deck of cards. Hank Williams life is strong testimony of his failure to follow God and "abide in (His) Word" John 8:31-32.

I'm not trying to be critical of HW. He was very popular, but he didn't preach Jesus. He preached liquor, women and music and if he really believed that song that explains his delusion. Cards are no substitute for God's Word.

  • @BludBaut The man in this song is farther along in his religious understanding than you and most other Christians. God is not in a book, nor is he in written words on a page of paper. God is in the hearts in minds of every single person; including that poor soldier in church who was without a bible, but did have a deck of cards.

  • @HOMGCaustic Your self-deception is appalling. You will perish in your sins in you don't repent and believe the words of the Son of God, who has life in Himself.

His sacrifice for our sins is the satisfaction of God's judgment.

    Your pretenses otherwise are foolish.

  • Here's a piece of your own scripture to chew on, a short sweet verse from the lips of your precious savior; "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

  • @HOMGCaustic That's hypocrites second favorite verse. The first is "judge not lest ye be judged."

It makes you feel good to be able to quote a Scripture? It's too bad you have no idea of the message of the Book.

Contrary to your other post, your soul is in great danger. The answers are in the Book, but you won't see them unless you really want to. God knows the heart. He doesn't play games with dishonest pretenders who care more about their pride than His will.

  • @BludBaut

Judge not lest ye be judged is kinda foolish for your arguement. I can judge any and all, because by my last measure we must ALL face judgement. Just so you know.

  • @HOMGCaustic I know what the Bible teaches and you don't as was evident by your original remark that exalted the phony and false spirituality of a spiritually EMPTY song that DIDN'T point people to Jesus' redemption OR to the Word of God.

You might well be religious, but you DO NOT KNOW GOD, you don't know His Word (you ignore it) and you don't hear His voice.

Save your breath lying to me about it; your words have already exposed your calloused heart.

  • @BludBaut Another side note; I have been saved, baptized, and repent my ills regularly. My soul is safe.

  • @HOMGCaustic The first comment you made to me is the polar opposite of this message. You don't know God or you wouldn't never have made the first remark. "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks."

You've got some major self-deception going on and it's pretty obvious your area of neglect is in abiding in the Word. You don't do it. I don't have to ask; I KNOW you don't. Read over and over John 8:31-32 until you understand what it's saying.

    It's CONDITIONAL.

  • @HOMGCaustic "My soul is safe" shows you don't believe the Bible but the lie of the false doctrine of "eternal security," often referred to as "once saved, always saved." Just how smart does one have to be to realize that if that was true then Jesus' was deceiving His disciples with all His warnings to "watch," "beware," "don't be deceived," and "be ready." If you're safe, you can sit and forget ALL Jesus' admonitions, right?

It was rhetorical. I know you don't know the Scriptures.

  • @HOMGCaustic Telling you the truth is not casting stones.

That shouldn't be that hard for you to understand.

  • @BludBaut Side note, don't worry about my soul. Its safe.

  • @HOMGCaustic It's not my responsibility to worry about your soul. It's my responsibility to tell you and others the truth -- that Jesus' Words in the Word of God are what will judge us in the last day and without looking regularly and repeatedly at them and desiring to understand and obey, they'll effectively "go in one ear and out the other."

The Bible is spiritual truth which is hidden from all men unless and until God opens one's eyes when one turns to the Lord. (2Cor 3:16)

  • @BludBaut go fuck yourself you Jesus creep, we don't need your bullshit

  • @sussie2622 Who forced you to read my words? Who forced you to respond? Who told you that you couldn't ignore me?

Recognize the idiot who wrote these words?

"if anybody knocks this great song, then I hope all your babies are born with bald heads

Your chickens turn into Emus and kick ya fuckin' fowl house down"

Sounds like a loon, doesn't it.

    You need help.

  • @HOMGCaustic I hope you understand that I was simply trying to educate you out of your delusion. I take no pleasure in insulting you. You believe so many lies, there isn't time, space or reason to address them. That's why I pointed you to the Son of God and the Word of God. Jesus made it VERY PLAIN that ALL will be judged BY HIS WORDS written in the Scriptures. Don't be a fool and ignore them. They ARE the words of LIFE.

Jesus is alive and will be real to those who obey Him.

  • You are very stupid if you don't know this is Hank singing this song.

  • ...Tex liked the "Queen of Heaven", maybe he should have read his Holy Bible, to see what it says. God issues a warning to those that mess with the "queen" , "Come out of her my people."

  • This is John Ritter's daddy Tex. I never heard Hank Williams version, but I rembember this one. I am in my seventies now and used to listened to Tex Ritter a lot before he died. Now John is gone too. Three is no longer company, now it is two.

  • anytime you see RARE in Title its usually not the right person as this isn't Hank !!

  • @chungazrevenge this is Hank!

  • A few have done this and I'm not sure which version this is....but it is not Hank Williams...

  • But this version is done by Tex Ritter...Hank Sr. never did this song

  • But this version is done by Tex Ritter

  • Haunting.... So great that it's haunting.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • luke the drifter was the best ever

  • @dbeicht i wonder how many know that hank went by that name when he started out. when they did the movie '' your cheating heart '' with george hamilton, in the beginning , they made reference to it. thank-you for being a true hank fan

  • @dbeicht Sure was. An how 'bout the picture of Hank in the ball-cap ha, I love Luke The Drifter. True wisdom. And common sense. Makes life better and clearer to all who really listen.

  • Is it just me that likes hank.. but I don't think his son is close to as good as him.

  • God Bless

  • who in the hell could mistake this for any other than hank?

  • tex cant wipe mr hanks butt

  • Man I have herd this song before and never knew who had done it. Thanks for posting this.

  • my dads favourite singer was hank williams. i have loved his music for almost 60 years. i have never heard this.WONDERFUL! this is hank. DAY

your singing voice was a gift from Heaven ;-)

  • Is this one of his Luke the Drifter recordings?

  • @colemanpike sounds like it would be. reminds me of I Dreamed About Mama Last Night, which is Luke the Drifter

  • definately Hank!! Thanks for posting.

  • This is great! Thanks for sharing! There are of course other great versions but this one is Hank's and like the others it is great!

  • gone since jan 1 1953 but not forgotin !

  • Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkensas should remake this song. His voice is perfect for it.

    good song.

  • and this song tries to make it alright to have playing cards when its wrong.

  • I dont really like this song nowhere in the bible does it say that marry

is the queen of heaven thats just catholic dogma.

  • @Denvermorgan2000 Whatever baptist.. Agagaga

  • Actually Hank Williams did not write the Deck of Cards it was Written T. Texas Tyer, and was made famous by T. Texas Tyler.

  • cont. Anyone with pictures of Frankie and Marie Rogers with any of the greats from way back......... I'd love to hear from you.

  • Interesting you should use the book my father said he helped bring to press. Page two... Lower right...Frankie Rogers and Audrey Williams. I'd love to see more pictures you may have. Both my parents ran in the circles with Hank, Roy Acuff, Roy Rogers and I think my Mom had hopes of making it to the Oprey.

  • the........BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i was looking for this song since i heard on a radio... kayas...love it...

  • I used to sang this song(or recital) in church, but was ask to stop because it was promoting gambling cards.

  • you know its hank williams

  • you know the difference between them anyway its definitly hank williams

  • this is hank no doubt about it

  • Hank will always hold a place in my heart, and mind. his sadness, and joy were evident in every song he sang. think of everything he could have done, had he lived another 29 years. Tex Ritter did a great rendition of this song, but Hank really makes you feel it. thanks for putting this here, I played it for my children.

  • @Allenoxxe hank will always be special to me he was my dads favourite singer so we were brought up listening to him sadly my dad is no longer with us he will be up there listening to hank

  • @Allenoxxe I agree with you Hank holds a special place in everyone's heart that used to listen to his music and still like to listen to it. what a great singer

  • T. Texas Tyler? Didn't he make the song famous?

  • hank dose this so much better i truly love this version

  • Hank's song!! Done Deal Brother!!

  • love this so much i've been looking for this song for such a long time...

  • This is so beautiful, thank you so very, very much for uploading it for us. God bless you. God bless you all.

  • It's Hank Sr. Even if there were no historical background to prove it so you only have to listen to the accents. Tex pronounced his words differently. Hanks is truly from Alabama and you can hear it.

  • wow i really want to ty for posting this its great took me back in time to a better era

  • I believe it was T Texas Tyler who wrote this song.

  • No one can beat Hank Williams Sr. for this song. This is the one we always listen to.

  • My dad is a BIG Hank Williams fan, so I've been listening to Hank since I can remember. I knew this is Hank as soon as I heard his voice. Anyone who can't tell that this is Hank Williams hasn't listened to his music much.

  • his voice sounds like it does on I Dreamed About Mamma Last Night

  • Hank Sr. No doubt. I knew as soon as he spoke. In the 40's/50's people could do their own versions of songs...and they were worth the effort. Unlike the utter bullcrap of today.

  • this is such a powerful script.

  • if you cant tell this is hank sr. then you need ya hearing checked this is the king of country hiram hank williams sr. thank you for posting this never heard hanks version b4 you posted it.

  • if thats not hank u can kiss my #/.'''#*&**

  • definitely Hank!

  • Tom T Hall is next best great storie tellers

  • it sounds like ritter but you can tell its hank cuz tex has a deeper voice

  • I didn't think it was Hank, either, but it is. If you go to soundlike *dot* com and search for it you can listen to a better quality version of this same recording and in that one you can definitely recognize "the Hank Williams of it all".

Sorry, but I think it is your audio quality that is throwing people off. Thanks for posting, though! This is awesome and rare!

  • So Hank wore glasses, so did Jimi and Buddy.

  • Don't know why the comment about video. All of these shots have been published before. This was originally done by T Texas Tyler about 44,45,46. I remember my mother sitting by the radio trying to get it all written down. He ended with "I know because I was that soldier". I don't know if this was ever released as a Luke the Drifter. I don't have it on either the 45 EP or 33LP. Sounds like this comes from one of his Mother's Best Flour shows. There are a ton of these that are getting digitized.

  • exposedthemall Yes sir we did!

  • Hank Rules!

  • @jpblair9 I could not agreee more....he was a true genius

  • i love hanks music and its a damn shame hes not reinstated 2 the opry you should all sign the petition 2 have him put back in . also theres a video on here named poor audrey i say to the creator of that video audrey was the life and death of the man dont speak bad about somebody til you've walked in his shoes i say we're all human and make mistakes and i'd rather not judge folks lest i be judged 4 all the bad things i've done as well you all ought to think about that

  • what year was this?

  • i thought i was hank savy but had not hard this one before thanks for the post

  • amazing that one request i get few other artists that sung it too.

Tell me. Hank Williams, Sr. at the end of Deck OfCards he say's...that soldier was me2w. Him right? Was he meaning him that he was in the army and wrote them there words to that song.

  • Hi,I always thought Tex Ritter was the only singer who sand this wonderful song. Thanks Pardner.Eddie

  • T Texas Tyler?

    by Luke the Drifter

  • What Memories this brings back -- Thank You for posting it

  • Last time I herd this was a band called Donna Carl and her nasty dad band playing at Big Whiskey's Boothill Salon

  • tears roll down my eyes

  • You have been Kissed.

  • i haven't heard this since i was a kid. thanks for posting 5*'s

  • love it

  • T. Texas Tyler recorded this first

  • I removed the comments concerning this is Tex Ritter and not Hank. The guy was getting rather rude. I also blocked him. This is Hank's version, any Hank Sr. fan could tell that. Case closed.

  • aint that the truth

  • There only one voice like this and belongs to Hank Sr

  • @exposethemall45 yeah wat kind of dumbass cant destinquish hank williams voice from tex ritters. nice song by the way very nice. keep it up, hanks my favorite singer and i lovre the beginning parts abut hanks life.

  • @exposethemall45 or as his son would say in the song, "on trial', case dismissed.

  • @exposethemall45 Tex Ritter is not in the same league as Hank Sr.

  • @exposethemall45 I do not know where u r coming from!..but listen and enjoy!!

  • @exposethemall45 - How could anyone think that this was Tex Ritter? Whoever this person was thier brain had no vocal recognition at all. There is no question that this is the unmistakable narration of Luke the Drifter...

  • @exposethemall45 Really. I mean who would think this was Tex Ritter? I'm 15 and I know it's the late great Hank Sr.

  • T Texas Tyler recorded this first.

  • Tex Ritter made it popular, but didn't write it.

  • I love Hank so much ..... what an awesome speaking voice he has too xx

  • hank is like elvis to country fans like me

  • True american musician.he really

should be on the top of dollar.he

    is a legend.

  • The ones stating it is Hank, Sr. are absolutely corect; . I see and heard Hank when he recorded this song; I was 15 years old, at the time.. No one did it as well as Hank.. ..

  • Greatest Classic - ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER MADE.

  • Too much talk and hissing!

  • Again, the song was recorded by Hank Sr. and for the Mother's Best shows in 1951. This person just isn't as familiar with Hank Sr. as he believes he is. Its Hank all the way. For any who have doubts Google it and look it up.

  • @exposethemall45 i know hank and thats hank

  • really?it sound's like hank.

  • No, you're mistaken, Ritter made the song famous but, that is Hank Sr. singing it.

  • @exposethemall45 ya for sure this is hank williams lol

  • @exposethemall45 no ritter did not it was wrote and sang first by t. texas tyler it is true story!

  • This helped me get through some pretty tough times thanks HANK!

  • Many artists have recorded this song but none compare to this Hank williams Sr version.

    God Bless

    David

  • immortal artist.

  • Great! My father served in North Africa WWII in Red Bull Division...God Bless America!

  • WOW, i aint Christian or a religious person but, this is a good song:D
