This is a very long road - at best, Obama can help move things closer to peace. It would take longer than 8 years to build a lasting peace even under the best possible conditions. As-is, Hamas and nationalist components within Israel will do what they can to make this difficult - Abbas is just one of the two faction leaders in Palestinian society and the other has so far has shown little interest in peace that does not mean removing Israel entirely.

I was losing hope with regard to this administration and the middle East, and after the horror of the flotilla attacks I really thought I didn't want to be a part of a human race that would do such things, it haunted my nights. I likened it to after the war, I'm not sure which camp, but the Americans made the local townspeople visit the camp and see the degradation and horror. Well the shoe is on the other foot now, and the jews are not playing nice at all. Gaza is an abomination.

This is a very long road - at best, Obama can help move things closer to peace. It would take longer than 8 years to build a lasting peace even under the best possible conditions. As-is, Hamas and nationalist components within Israel will do what they can to make this difficult - Abbas is just one of the two faction leaders in Palestinian society and the other has so far has shown little interest in peace that does not mean removing Israel entirely.

I do have hope, and I do approve so far of what has been done, but I don't think people should expect a solution in 8 years, the best we can get is progress.
Given that Hamas has shown itself to be hostile to peace and can do something stupid to sabotage both sides whenever progress is made, a real solution is difficult. Hamas's actions can rally both the Israeli right-wing and Arab hawks who consider peace treaties to be treason.

England did no such thing. The UK, like many european powers, was in a rush to control the areas formerly under Ottoman control, and they held onto the area with the intent to keep it. Colonialism proved unsustainable, particularly as WW1 proved ruinously expensive to european powers, and the end of the mandate period was no favor to Jews, Arabs, or anyone else so much as the UK simply lacking the power to hold onto the region anymore.

I think it's not about who got more help.
The jews didn't steal land, they built a land. And when the Palestinians refused to have two states, they launched a war against Israel, and you can't blame the Israelis for that.
But it dosen't matter, there are well over 6 million jews in Israel, you can't just transfer us.

I don't feel that Israel has any obligation to people who decided to flee because they were afraid of the eastablishment of a democratic country that promised and comitted equality of rights to all it's citizens. I feel that eventually the Palestinians deserve the West Bank and Gaza for an independent state.

Im afraid a lot of European countries never ( and many still dont) had the balls to tell Israel to stop the violence against the Palestineans, because there is STILL a big guilt feeling. As terrible as it was what has happend in WOII, the EU must step forward, and get over their guiltfeeling and tell Israel to stop, with or without sanctions...but thats my oppinion.

how are we in control over the Palestinians? this is how:
we left Gaza completly, and they built a terror base, an area of 1.5M ppl under an internationally recognized terrorist organization regime.
In the West-Bank they used to send terrorists and suicide bombers so we said enough is enough and yes, we do hold this occupied area like any other country would hold an occupied area that threatens it- with security.

There is no other alternative but to struggle for peace. It will not be an easy road, particularly given that neither side is unitary, and each side has hawks that want nothing more than complete eradication of the other side and will attempt to sabotage any progress. We marginalise those people because we must if we want a better world.
