whats the difference between eating sugar or eating carbs? do you seriously think that the second you ingest sugar its going to surpas all other nutrients youve ingested and not yet digested (from 2-3hrs ago)? are you saying the GI is important even though Gi is only relevant during a fasted state?
oat protein, flowing agents, whey protein or whey, anything enriched or vitamin enriched, protein fortified 'anything', annatto, whey protein isolate or concentrate, yeast nutrients

Hey bro.. Go with 60g of Waxy Maize and 40g of Whey isolate postworkout in *Water* post workout followed by your whole food meal 1-1 and 1/2 hours later. You won't be disappointed in your recovery. This is the purest, most bioavailable, and fastest way to date to get your post workout insulin spike, glycogen replenishment, and protein fix.
I am a gym rat but i admit i have been doing alot of things wrong. Thanks for the advice and I ordered your book which im going to follow religiously.
I have been looking for a affordable Whey Protein isolate. But I have some standards with my Whey. No Artificial sweeteners (NONE!) and GMO free. There some that are on the market from very good places like Dr Mercola's. But it is too expensive with my needed 300+ grams a day. Subscribed. Keep the videos coming! and Thank you.
@Cyojahleen Gaining weight is consuming more calories than you burn off......so eat good food and supplement correctly and you will gain weight...eat 4 to 5 times a day
I have met few people with the strictness and dedication that Rico has and it that strictness and dedication that allows him to look the way he does at his age and be so successful.
@JohnnyBr111 It's for people like you that I write to give you further knowledge that you (as well as I) try to soak up everyday! When I say "I can change your life" I'm not being pompous....I'm telling the truth. Lots of people have knowledge but I don't think have actually APPLIED that knowledge in their own health regimen. I wouldn't hire a trainer that was fat or go to a doctor who smokes. I'm about to rewrite my book with tons of new info....all the best my friend
I am a huge fan of this guy. He tells it like it is whether people choose to believe it or not is entirely up to them. The fact is that his beliefs with regards to dairy, toxic sugars such as sucralose and so on are backed by scientific evidence. I have been a fitness model for years, was a former bodybuilder and have dedicated my life to fitness.
what's so bad about store bought milk....i honestly wont read your blog but i just watched your first vid on shakes and it threw me wen you said its bad for you
Hey quick question. I dont have a multi / casein protein shake that I can take before I go to sleep. Is it ok if I eat a few mixed foods such as egg whites, turkey breask.... kind of a mix of it all without lots of carbs. Will that stay in my body for just as long ?
@Deadman7Inc I"m redoing my web site as we speak!!!! give it a week or so and check it out........making it like the big boys!!! Giving my ebook download free if you refer 5 friends to join!
Whey protein isolate has a better bioavailablity than whey concentrate? Your just generalizing bro. As long as the whey protein concentrate or isolate has been subjected to a cold filtration process then all the micro-fractions are still intact
Why don't you put in more fruit instead of the crackers? I add strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, acai puree and banana. And this will be my dinner/ post workout drink.
PS. Acai puree makes the shake less acidic tasting.
Reingnunlimited ( The comment below me) is totally correct. How can u walk around the grocery store and tell people to stay away from processed foods with simple sugars / no nutritional value and then put it in a protein shake.. You've contradicted yourself before.. There's another vid with u using ice cream ( Yeah I know it's outdated ) .. Reignunlimited's way is much better and natural to get sugar and fiber.. oatmeal and nutures ultimate sweetener..Honey ..
Ive done this shake but instead of graham crackers, (which are processed just like cookies) I use a couple of scoops of quaker dry oatmeal and a teaspoon of natural honey.. same effect just a little more natural than the crackers.. almost perfect rico..lol
I've read recent studies show that the optimal window for a post-workout shake is no more then 45min after your workout. Your right that your body absorbs twice as much for those 3hrs. But they're finding now that if you have your shake right after it helps restore your muscle glycogen stores quicker, and help flush out lactic acid from your muscles so it doesn't sit in your muscle and you cramp up.
If you have it 45 min after your body's energy stores replenish in ~3hrs! as opposed to 6-8
the only thing i want to change is the lactic acid part. There is no such thing as lactic acid. What it really is is lactate. The body cannot convert pyruvate fast enough because glycogen is low. Pyruvate converts to lactate which cause the soreness
Pyruvate is involved in the break down of body fat into energy. Lactic Acid is waste, Pyruvate is involved in the creation of Lactate. And Lactate is just a salt of Lactic Acid (ie it has reacted). Also when I say cramping, I mean involuntary contraction of muscles. Your refering to Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) which is not cause by Pyruvate or Lactic Acid. The short answer is, is we don't know for sure what causes DOMS.
im thinking egg whites is the best, fresh, u process them how u want, there local and cheap. look at laird hamilton the surfer, he eats some serious eggs- and has a much leaner body but is so ripped, from ive been told whey just make u puffy, puffy looks good but it isnt so much muscle, look at bodybuilders from the 70s n 80s, alot guys with 28 inch waist and huge chest n legs, todays guys are like gian sqaures, full of fecal matter n paste from all the garbage whey.
Bodybuilders now are puffy because of HGH (human growth hormone) It makes you grow, but it makes EVERYTHING grow. That includes your internal organs, plus most bodybuilders are a minimum 50lbs heavier in their off season. I bet you'd look puffy too if you weighed over 300 lbs for have the year haha. Also creatine plays a big roll as well.
Also I wouldn't use egg whites in a shake. At least not raw, you can get samonella poisoning from raw eggs.... That's bad.
thx for the adivce, i dont eat raw eggs. but yeah like i said, its all puffy, creatine whey protein sludge water weight, truth is that you can build around one pound of real muslce in 6 months, any thing else your doing aint natural and thats a choice thats up to u, the whole industry is fake, steroid mirror atheletes , look at people doing non corperate sports like bmx bikers and surfers, there ripped with real muscle, this mirror athelete ballon muscle stuff aint real, look at arnolds body
hes tore up for his age, maybe he aint doing much, but looks like cheating his way to stardom via dope is coming back to fuk em in the ass. U agree with what iim saying, to ballon up to 300 isnt healthy at all, prolasped stomach and transverse colon, swollen liver, etc, u can even see the colon sludge bulge protruding in some thick builders, its like there belly button is lower then it should be, its all sludge-
Well I can tell you that you can put on more then 1 lbs every 6 months naturally. I've put on about 15lbs in 4 months. And although Bodybuilders are often on juice, don't discredit their work ethic and training methods. You can learn a lot from a bodybuilder. If you goal is to add strength and muscle you'd be stupid not to talk to a bodybuilder. Cause that's what they do best.
not really man. instead of eating crappy carb and fat meals at restaurants, buy 5 lb jugs of protein powder. Thats 40 servings of 48grams of protein per serving. That translates to about $1.50 for a gold standard protein powder. do that three times a day and u are halfway there
for a pre workout i just have an egg on toast atleast an hour before working out, the idea is to have carbs but nothing to heavy thats gonna take a long time to digest, for a 40g to 100g pre workout meal u should wait atleast an hour before working out, anything with more than 100g could take up to 4 hours to digest so i find that just an egg on toast works great
After doing weights it's the only moment of the day that you can eat simple carbs, because they go into your muscles and carry the protein along, if you dont have carbs after doing weights you eat your own muscle and eventually lose muscle!
Do cardio in a fasted state(30-50mins), weights in the afternoon, eat your weight in pounds x by 11
Cont.-Divide that in 4-7 meals a day. Complex carbs and protein in every meal. Simple carbs and liquid protein after weights. Complex carbs, solid protein and good fat (olive oil 1 tablespoon full=127 calories, or half avocado=135 cals) in the last meal. 10-20% fat 40-50%protein 40%carbs That's it! Train 3 days on, 1 off(rest day) eat your weight x by 15 this day(to confuse and raise metabolism) Weights 1 day on 1 day off Train 2 muscles each day, 3 exercises of 2 sets of 5-10 reps for each) =)
Hey Rico. Great video but what does rice milk taste like exactly? does it have any flavor and where exactly do you buy it? I didn't see it at the local grocery when I last went
if u want to gain weight use nutrisport weight gain mixes soo freaking well better than a normal milk shake no joke the only thing is i have to hold my nose and down it lol
I was wondering if you could please post the link on your blog about why milk is bad for you, and if milk is bad for you, then why do you take whey protein isolate. Whey Protein Isolate is a derivative of milk. Thanks!
hey rico it is ok for a post workout to have high protein pancakes because i mean i kinda get bored with the shakes i add blueberries to my pancakes is that ok for postworkout
if you dont know these simple things then you probably dont know too much at all about being healthy......buy the book and get all the info to make dramatic changes in your body bro!!!!
its your choice...soda is the worst liquid you can drink. robs your body of calcium and is very acidic.....takes 32 glasses of alkaline water to neutralize ONE soda!!!!!!!!!
it sounds like you are a beginner...in that case dont spin your wheels going to the gym and not knowing what u r doing! Buy the book! Its WHY i wrote it
Why is Whey isolate better then Whey protein? ALSO 300 grams of protein a day is too much..... How the hell do u expect people to afford that much protein of any kind??
i prioritize my HEALTH...its ok to buy starbucks, red bull, and go out and buy drinks and shop for yourself right? I cut out the crap in my life to afford the things that will give me a long healthy life...THATS how the hell you can afford it
isolate is a protien that is ideal for after workouts because it gets into your system faster then just whey protien whey protien is taken before with workout to get in isolate can be taken right after and isolate is a better protien
Hey Bro; 60 grams of protein per meal is a big hit. I am also around the 200lb mark (215) and I drink about 3 shakes per day (1.5 scoops - 36g per shake) as well as my regular intake of other proteins (i.e. tuna, steak, chciken, eggs) But I do find it a stuggle to get in 1 gram per lb bodyweight - never mind 1.5. Would you recommend having more shakes to increase my intake?
LOL, when you put it like that it sounds so simple. BTW, I am from the UK and our chicken breasts are a little puny! not 60 gram whoppers! As always Rico, thanks for your advice and take care - your a legend Bro!
I hear you Bro, However remember that in its purest form whey protein isolate contains very little fat, lactose or cholesterol. Importantly whey also plays a role as an antioxidant and helps support a healthy immune system (I haven't been sick in along time!). As long as you supplement sensibly (e.g, the meal plan Rico describes below) then you will be fine with the benefits outweighing any negatives. ps...my liver is fine on 2-3 shakes per day. :-)
just wanted to let you know i find your videos informative and very educational, i also find your enthusiasm extremely contagous. I couldnt find a copy of your book in the uk so i've ordered on from ebay it should arrive tomorrow, i can't wait to read it, keep the videos going as i know you have a lot of fans in the uk.
I am amazed at the amount of my subscribers from the UK and Canada! I will definitely do book tours in the future in these countries. You guys inspire me to achieve greater heights. Thanks very much for your kind words. All the best bro. Rico
I dont see how putting two graham crackers in it will make it "sugary", if you say you can have sugar after a workout then why not have regular milk? Chocolate milk has been proven to be the best post exercise drink, and if you only have milk 2-3 times a week when you have a protein shake, it is not bad for you. this is what I do for my protein shake
that seems a little extreme.. SO many calories... maybe even to excess... If you don't have enough carbs your liver will convert you're protein into carbs.... Look at steve turano's videos, he doesn't even touch protein shakes and is much better shape than this guy.
I'm currently using a multivitamin capsule which has a whole lot of vitamins (A, D2, E, B1, etc) and also stuff like Ferrous Sulphate, Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate, Magnesium Sulphate, etc
The question is whats the best time of the day to have this capsule? Is it just before I go to bed or just after lunch or ???
Looks like it taste good, however you and your views will yield greater results by eliminating the blueberries as fiber from these is not good immediately after a workout, maybe a couple hours after. If you want the flavor mix the protien with blueberry juice thus you get the quick absorpbtion and also the flavor. Also make sure that grahm crackers used are low fat and trans fat free. Keep up the good work
you are correct. I don't use fruit anymore (check my newer third postworkout video) and the graham crackers were like you mentioned. I appreciate the feedback
i havn't read the book yet but i just might, do you recommend adding fruit to the shake post workout or just protein powder and water? (thanks 4 answering everyones questions)
For years i added blueberries and bananas and other stuff because you need to spike your insulin.....its good but now I use the regimen in my third post workout nutrition video
Ricco This is a fat burning what am I doing wrong question. "Starvaion mode - no breakfast" It takes me about 1 hour to get to the gym after I've woken up. Then I hit the treadmill. My back is out so I can only walk. I do 2 minute sets at 4.5mph with the treadmill on high incline (Intense) then I rest 1 min. 10 sets. Then I swim till I can't move. All On "E" Then Breakfast. Am I in starvation mode within that first hour?? I only have access to a jump rope Immediatley. What am I doing wrong?

example: 160 lbs x 11=1760 cals
Eat 18-20 x your weight to gain muscle.

purelymma 2 years ago

isolate is a protien that is ideal for after workouts because it gets into your system faster then just whey protien whey protien is taken before with workout to get in isolate can be taken right after and isolate is a better protien

Would you recommend having more shakes to increase my intake?
kopitebaz 3 years ago
one chicken breast is 60 bro.......its not hard at all.. 3 meals and 2 shakes......piece of cake
totalhealth4life 3 years ago
LOL, when you put it like that it sounds so simple. BTW, I am from the UK and our chicken breasts are a little puny! not 60 gram whoppers! As always Rico, thanks for your advice and take care - your a legend Bro!
kopitebaz 3 years ago
dont go too heavy on the shakes, too much of those puts a tremendous amount of stress on the liver
assasinjc23 3 years ago
I hear you Bro, However remember that in its purest form whey protein isolate contains very little fat, lactose or cholesterol. Importantly whey also plays a role as an antioxidant and helps support a healthy immune system (I haven't been sick in along time!). As long as you supplement sensibly (e.g, the meal plan Rico describes below) then you will be fine with the benefits outweighing any negatives. ps...my liver is fine on 2-3 shakes per day. :-)

okay and why shouldnt i use skim milk in my protein shake?
im too lazy to read ur blog please tell me on here
krb0123 3 years ago
I dont see how putting two graham crackers in it will make it "sugary", if you say you can have sugar after a workout then why not have regular milk? Chocolate milk has been proven to be the best post exercise drink, and if you only have milk 2-3 times a week when you have a protein shake, it is not bad for you. this is what I do for my protein shake
nitrotech chocolate
frozen strawberries
ice cubes
milk
banana
little bit of peanut butter
ownagesalad69 3 years ago
everything he says about the PWS 100 percent true. u will b more lean and have more energy without reg. milk its okay sometimes not 4 PWS

I know your down on dairy, but what about raw milk? I agree that conventional milk is a poor choice.
CoastToCoastPM 3 years ago
raw milk is great if you get it from a trusted source
totalhealth4life 3 years ago
that seems a little extreme.. SO many calories... maybe even to excess... If you don't have enough carbs your liver will convert you're protein into carbs.... Look at steve turano's videos, he doesn't even touch protein shakes and is much better shape than this guy.
imadebobie 3 years ago
is steve 54?????? waxy maize IS carbs! Get some education before making ignorant remarks

Thanks bro! You've got some sick traps...mine are my strong part too! Good work, especially for your young age!!!
totalhealth4life 3 years ago
Looks like it taste good, however you and your views will yield greater results by eliminating the blueberries as fiber from these is not good immediately after a workout, maybe a couple hours after. If you want the flavor mix the protien with blueberry juice thus you get the quick absorpbtion and also the flavor. Also make sure that grahm crackers used are low fat and trans fat free. Keep up the good work
dmd71181 3 years ago
you are correct. I don't use fruit anymore (check my newer third postworkout video) and the graham crackers were like you mentioned. I appreciate the feedback
