Hiya, I have one of these, in fact it's the second one now the reason is because I thought the first one was buggered because when I air play music from ipad, it kept stopping and starting but the new one is the same. I have since upgraded to ipad2 and yep same problem. Here's the strange bit, it works fine when I air play from my iMac i7, also I have had the same querk with my apple tv2. Have you heard of this phenomena? Oh and the schoolmaster paerthraj11 , ten bucks says he/she'
@RandomEntertainer If you're not planning on taking your Mac anywhere, then you might as well get an iMac. I have an iMac, but also ended up purchasing a MacBook for school. I take it with me to coffee shops. It's nice to have something to take w/ you. Good luck! Have you made a decision yet?
@paarthraj11 It's using an existing word. "Route" is pronounced "root" in British English, thus a "router" is pronounced "rooter". A "rowter" is something you use to cut grooves and stuff into wood.
Hi...Can i link airpot express to a wired router(i have PC without wifi, not MAC),so i have wired and wireless connection.Wired to my PC and wireless to my mobile phone for example...HELP...!
@MediSpring To do that you need the airport extreme base station, you then plug in your external hard drive into that. You cant use the express for hard drives.
Nice review, one question, if I like in a hotel room, the hotel has free internet ( but only with a cable ), can I plug the cable in the airport express en start using internet for example on iPod touch or iPad ?
Can you just plug it into a wall and get instant wifi? or do you have to use a ethernet cable. Say i have a mac. Can i plug 1 end of the ethernet cable into my computer and the other into the airport express, then plug the express into any nearby outlet. then proceed to set it up using airport utility? an answer would be much appreciated
so let me try and get this straight. you would only need those blue cords that plug from your laptop to the Airport Express to get your internet or can you just plug the airport express into the walls with no cords attached and your laptop can have wireless internet? or am i missing something, please help im so confused im not sure to get express or extreme. all im using the wifi for would to be in my room our my beach house or maybe a friends. I dont need anything special i just need wifi
@gracebauer1234 You need a modem. You can't just plug this into your wall and get wifi, You NEED A MODEM!1 This is just the router, So you plug your modem into the router using ethernet, And then you have wifi. Just plugging it into the wall won't work as there is no source of internet. You will have a wifi network, But you won't have any internet on it, Which makes it pointless
@gracebauer1234 You still need a modem to supply internet, This is just a router which sends your internet from your modem to more computers. So you need 2 devices to get internet.
@italiankid14 No this just makes YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION WIRELESS. It doesn't give you internet or anything, It isn't mobile broadband, It is a router, a router is something you plug into yout modem to make your internet go from a single output to one wired computer, To multiple computers, And a wireless router sends it to multiple computers but wirelessly
@kathen111 It goes pretty far, But still if there are more than 10 devices in the house that want to connect then it it won't work. BUT IT should work in a whole house.
@Benthaitakeaway He means to cables to your computer, there will still need to be one cable into the router, Which is the ethernet cable from the modem to supply the router with internet which it can send out to the computers and iPod's etc wirelessly
hey, I was wondering how you can change your security settings. I have WPA active, but i want to change it to WEP to play my DS online, and will affect my current online for my Wii and PS3? Also my computer?
@papercanfly when you setup the thing with a mac.. its on apple's website if you want detail... oh and it shouldnt really disadvantage your consoles but make it faster... =]
@ReviewMagician sigh... yeah apple have a better deal in the us due to the fact of shipping, im really pissed with this and i really want apple to stop hoarding there products globally... try australia and see why its even worse there...
@origamiguy106 no you have to plug it into a ethernet cable, i thought that too. It would be sick if it could do that though, but thats in the future.
Hey i am getting a macbook pro 13'' in summer. i have a dekstop pc with a wireless modem so do i need airport or sumthing like that to connect to use it with my macbook pro 13'' ???????? (wirelessly) ?
Somehow, out of the 5 reviews i watched. 4 of them, shows only the item and the reviewers hands. THey don't even let us see how it plugs in, how it performs or something. They just fidget around with it while blabbing away. Visual is better than audio ok.
i am using this as an extender to reach the far corners of my renewed home but somehow only one computer is willing to use the signal while another one thats identical tot he one that works wont work!! can anyone help?
What a silly review - I'm sure the original posterr had something useful to say but can't hear half of what he's saying over the dumb music he decided to include in the review
Yes and No from what I have heard. On the apple website there is a question about using it with a 360 and many of the comments said it would only work as an extender for a current router.
Have the version before this, the one without the N-technology. Had it since 2005 and it was my main wireless point in the house until last november. It's amazing that this little box can do all the features. The Express is now switched with an Time Capsule and instead I use it to send music from my MBP to different speakers around the house. Controling the iTunes in my MBP with app Remote on my iPhone. Also use Airfoil to stream Spotify around the house. Fantastic!
I plug an ethernet into my airport express then plug it into my xbox to get xbox live. And it is still "wireless" if that makes any sense. It's better than buying microsoft's wireless adapter.
No, I have a separate modem and router. My airport express is set to be a WiFi signal extender but also doubles as a media center.
It has three plus on it, one ethernet, one 3.5mm jack, and one usb. --- I plug one end of the ethernet cable into the airport express and the other end into the xbox 360 and that's how I get xbox Live....anywhere in the house. --- If I want to use wireless airtunes, I plug one end of a cable into the 3.5mm jack and the other end into my stereo system.
Can you do an indepth video on the different things you can do with this product as i'm thinking of getting one to make my printer wireless and to stream music around the house, thanks!
this is a wireless router isn't it? why should i choose this and not airport extreme?and on the airport extrem, what would i use 4 ethernet ports for???
why is the AC connector so huge? this must be only in Europe or something, cause in the use, the AC connector is completely flush with the rest of the airport express casing.
Answer me this question. If you have an airport express and you have a ethernet cord hooked up to it but you want to extend your network, can you just plug another one in without having to use another ethernet cord? Does the airport automatically look for another airport extreme and start using its wireless?
Answer me this question. Why do you need airport and what does it do? Does it turn you Internet moden into a wireless router by plugging it in via Ethernet?
Does that give you free internet or something? I have never had a router so i really dont know, well it wouldnt have much use for me cuz i don't have a laptop anyways, it is for laptops right?
No, you have to plug in a modem to it, then it changes that to a wireless signal. I'm not really sure, but I think thats right. I know for sure it doesn't give you free internet though.
you can only connect to the Airport Express via wireless, but with the Airport Extreme, you have Gigabit Ethernet ports on it, so you can connect to it with an ethernet cable. Other than that, the only difference is that you can connect a hard drive to the Airport Extreme, but the Airport Express has airtunes and Extreme doesn't.
thx

You have a router that is provided by your ISP

if it is wireless then it will be an extender and you can use airtunes and wireless printing.

Does that give you free internet or something? I have never had a router so i really dont know, well it wouldnt have much use for me cuz i don't have a laptop anyways, it is for laptops right?
xdoggy17 3 years ago
No, you have to plug in a modem to it, then it changes that to a wireless signal. I'm not really sure, but I think thats right. I know for sure it doesn't give you free internet though.

how well does this compare to the airport extreme?
selimsaim 3 years ago
you can only connect to the Airport Express via wireless, but with the Airport Extreme, you have Gigabit Ethernet ports on it, so you can connect to it with an ethernet cable. Other than that, the only difference is that you can connect a hard drive to the Airport Extreme, but the Airport Express has airtunes and Extreme doesn't.
