@mrswartz you can play shift no problem, but gta4 is kinda difficult.. i'm extremely picky when it comes to FPS and smoothness, GTA4 will lag a bit when you start going into downtown or complex neighborhood.. with low-medium settings, you get around 25 FPS but busy city will reduce to 10-15 depending on what youre doing

I have one of these and I love it. I only paid $577 for mine and you get a 512MB GeForce 9800 card which will handle pretty much any game out there. The video card is upgradeable the CPU is upgradeable to a T9900 3.06Ghz dual core with 6MB cache. Only down side for me is the screen res of only 1366x768, I was used to 1680x1050 but I solved this problem by hooking it up to a 1080P TV via HDMI. Mine was very responsive out of the box. I don't even have to exit Firefox to play games.

@iAJ4K87 from what I heard, this can be upgraded to a quad core, but its yet to be proven...im still looking for proof of this lol; they say it could just be a bios thing, that asus intends to put out, but nothing yet

In fact I own an ASUS G50Vt-X1,Got it factory refurbished for an (stunning) $600,it's brand new!

I love it,the quality is awesome,I out preform most desktops systems sold at an best buy,and can (easily) pick it up and carry it around,If you are complaining about battery life,then thats an choice you have to make,I would choose power over long battery life,it actually shows up in daily use too when I choose to run linux as it allows for advanced graphical settings .

You may have gotten the one in a thousand defected machine then,Mine is an charm to work with/from,I am typing from it right now, in fact the hottest GPU temp I have ever seen was from Clancy's HAWX,in which I saw 88C,And was running 35 fps with most settings turned on, including DX10 and 4XAA,(it looked awe-inspiring.)

I was going to buy the X5 But I figured out it has 2.13GHz Dual Core, and the X1 has 2.26 Dual Core. I'm actually comparing right now, and I can't find anything different other than that. And its the same price! So I'm kinda tripping balls.

The x5 has a 2.13ghz processor with 3mb L2 cash, has 800mhz ram.

The x1 has a 2.26ghz processor with 2 mb L2 cash, has 533mhz ram

well there are two more diffrences, they have a diffrent style lid and the x1 has a 6-cell battery while the x5 has a 9-cell battery(which sticks out a bit).

The port you called an 'optical port' on the back of the laptop, next to the rear USB port, is *not* an optical port. It is the modem jack (RJ-11) with a rubber plug inside it, as this model does not have a modem installed.

Also, the antenna jack on the left side isn't for a wi-fi antenna, but is intended for use with a TV Adapter, although as most Express Card 54 TV Adatper Cards come with a jack already on them, how this is supposed to used--save for an internal option--is not known to me.

You pay the same fees on laptops as you do desktops for internet and online gaming. Also, this laptop isn't quite as powerful as an Alienware, but it is much more reasonably price. Alienware computers are very nice and well-built, but they are much more expensive than they should be.

I just got this laptop and it's great! It's so much better than my old Dell. I ran Oblivion on it and I can turn all the settings all the way up with bloom and 4x AA, and it runs perfectly so far. Also, if anyone is interested, they're selling G50VT-X1 laptops on TigerDirect refurbished for $759.99. That's $140 cheaper than the Best Buy price. I haven't seen a better deal on a laptop yet.

true, the qosmio is an excellent laptop, BUT, it has a big flaw... it isn't portable for its big size and its thickness, while the asus is average size and has the same performance as the toshiba, and even better, it will only cost you $900.00

It's not the latest laptop as they do have the x5 now at Best Buy, but this one is definitely the better of the two. You should find out the FPS in various games you own, hopefully three of them being Half-Life 2, COD4, and Crysis. =}
