There was a televised concert of this band (included this tune) when thirteen was "new" and it aired on Broadcast TV as part of a weekend series marketed as "The BLUE JEAN Network". In that rendition the Horn Section's Dixieland component was dialed up a few notches higher than here and I'd REALLY like to find that performance. (The stop times at the end were much longer and Loughnane's plunger work was a lot more "gut bucket...." Thanks for posting this overlooked iteration......
Alot of people think that when "If You Leave Me Now" became a hit, then the band was on its way to AC hell. But what you said sums it up...when Peter "took over." When 'Happy Man' and 'Wishing You Were Here' became part of the bands set, well when Peter started writing in general, the band's sound softened massivley. That was even before IYLMN.
But you're right. When Peter rose to prominence, the band's sound suffered.
Great points. 13 was several steps up from Hot Streets as far as Pankow's horn charts. Too bad the album as labeled as "the Disco Album" when, in fact, there's no disco on it except Street Player's straight 4 beat. That tune goes way beyond disco with great arrangement including one of Pankow's all-time greatest charts. The rest of the album has some good music, only suffering from bad lyrics and Ramone's crappy production.
The reason 13/14/15 did not do well is because all the fifteen year old girls moved on after IYLMK and BWABS. Luckily(I guess) for the band they jumped back on board for 16-20 and a big thanks to MTV.
Terry I miss you with all my heart and your band.
"Loser" is such a melancholy song, yet so beautiful in retrospect. IMHO.
If you can dig up anything else from this wonderful concert, I'd sure appreciate it, Juan! Besides, "Aloha" is just one of those quirky songs, you just gotta love.
'13' is such an underrated album. Ranks up there with 'Hot Streets' and 'X'. I absolutely dig it, from start to finish. Would love to see a 'live' performance of "Mama Take," "Window Dreamin'", "Reruns,"...heck even "Loser With A Broken Heart" and "Life Is What It Is."
This song is funky. Love how Peter Cetera keeps changing his vocal range in this. Dacus is simply distracting with his gyrating. He looks so out of place.
For those of us who remember all the drug names from the 70s and 80s, I would describe this song as "Chicago on Quaaludes." And judging from some of the stories about several members' habits in the late 70s/early 80s, this description may be all too true!!!
do you mean from this particuler concert?..if so i think its on there but one of the kids has moved it an cant find it at the mo,which is really frustrating...sure it will turn up..
A ha. I knew it was Peter Cetera that sang that song, not P.C. Mobley as the album states. LOL. Yeah I guess that was his jazz name for himself when he put on that gutteral sound to his voice.
yea..i was abit confused at first..then i saw the vid an thought who else coud it have been..i mean who else could sing like that..lol..hes got good vocal range.
@maysno24 I'd agree, except maybe adding that James William Guercio's departure was the final coup de grace.

Danny plays this "half time shuffle" very nicely.

Sounds a bit like "Mama" from Toto's Hydra album.

A bit of trivia: this song was based on Cab Calloway's "Minnie The Moocher"...

I never really heard this before because I heard 13 was a shitty album, but I really like the songs off of it that I've heard so far.
Why it didnt do well is beyond me.

Great song! Pete sounds very much like Boz Skaggs (sp?) here.

Another note: Cetera kind of blew the whole P.C. Moblee spiel by singing this song live.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This takes the cake for me as the worst song on Chicago 13.

My apologies Sopranoppc! For that unfortunate typo with SN's on my previous post. Sorry.

I love Runaway. That is one of my favorites from 13. It's a great song to listen to when you have a bad day. ; }

He pretty much "gyrated" himself right out the door didn't he?

They did Reruns on a show called the Blue Jeans Network.
Robert sounded better live than he did on the album.
