  • In the name of the Father, Mother, Son, Holy, Spirit, Amen.

This is the original sign of the cross.

The devil cannot write or perform this.

Those who are damned will not be able to write or perform this.

  • im lutheran

  • I am catholic and the thing I am not getting is why us Christians are persecuting others beliefs. I'm only 15 and an getting ready to be confirmed and I can't stand people saying ( especially other Christians ) that Catholics do satanic things such as the sign of the cross. Or that we worship Mary, we don't worship her in any way we only honor her. So the main point I'm trying to get across here is that it is stupid that we are discriminating against our different beliefs when we are all christ

  • Thanks brother

  • if you draw the line of a pic of a person you notice the sign of the cross is upside down... hmmm sign of satan? I do the sign of the cross down to my belly botton to make it look more christ cross... I'm actually not a Christian or a Catholic. I'm a pagan spiritist I do some christian spell work with the saints on the 7 day candles and things like that and they answers my request.

  • I love you catholics. Some of you started reading the bible and really praying to Jesus. Which is wonderful. Then some of you started to recieve God's spirit! Man that's wonderful too, but then you didn't stick with the truth. You came up with a name for it. The catholic charismatic movement. I've never heard this teaching in the catholic religion so this is how I know it's new. The catholic church can't fight the out pouring of God's spirit so they adopt a whole new religion basically.

  • Oh so it's not in the bible? Well see you lost me there. If it's not found in the Holy bible then it's not of God. Unless backed up by scripture these practices are for naught. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I don't need a sign to remind me of my saviors death. I know, I belong to God, because I recieved his spirit. I was baptized in his name. The devil does not fear the crucifix he fears the Holy Ghost and the blood. The name is Jesus, because he is the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost.

  • God loves us all no matter what race, decent, what sins we commit, gay, staights ,lesbian, as long as we love him back!

  • @superlolothunder1 what the hell are you talking about .... Aren't christians athiests anyways ......my grandmother started me on church when I was shitting my diper !! So I don't think you know what your talking about brother of lucifer...maybe they believe that cause they are jealous

  • Cordial saludo:

Me gustaría que usted explicara lo del "sign of the Cross", pero el que dice "By the sign of the cross, from our enemies deliver us, our God". Muchas gracias y que Dios y la Santísima Virgen lo acompañen y lo bendigan.

  • Christians don't do the sign of the cross because it's the mark of the beast. Identifying mark of the the enemies of God

  • @superlolothunder1 dumbest comment I've ever heard. You know you're wrong when a protestant like myself even defends something about catholicism... The sign of the cross isn't a "Catholic" thing, it's a Christian thing. Early Byzantine mosaics show Jesus forming the sign of the cross. Lutherans, Methodists, Orthodox, Anglicans, etc make the sign of the cross either on the chest or forehead in varying frequency

  • What about the signs of rape? Maybe if people paid more attention to rapists in the catholic church rather than pointlessly waving your fucking hands around you wouldn't be part of a paedophile conspiracy.

  • The earliest Christians traced the Cross on their forehead with their thumb. They did not make the large sign of the Cross because it could easily spell death for them. Remember, Christians were persecuted for the first four centuries, and then irregularly thereafter, even into the 20th and 21st centuries. The original sign of the Cross was quick and discreet, and only another Christian would know what it signified.

  • yo soy muy pecador, a sido malo, i am full of lamentations. but I want to know if there is a more pefect way to hold my fingers? right to left?

  • God bless you, and may Mother Mary guide you. Amen.

  • Im Catholic and it doesn't matter what others think. we can't deny Jesus. He is the way. Through and only through him we will reach the kingdom of Heaven. We must never be ashamed and not be afraid to spread his name. He died for our sins

  • guys no cursing wwjd

  • Do you know the early Church Fathers/Christians did the sign of the Cross differently than how you did it (modern Catholic method)? It was (1) from the head to the abdomen, (2) then up to the right shoulder, (3) then to the left side (heart). It meant (1) Jesus descended from heaven, (2) rose from the dead, (3) and came into my heart.

  • i think im catholic

  • The sign of the Cross has been a tradition handed down from the days of holding Mass in the catacombs to avoid persecution and being put to death for worshipping Jesus Christ. It was a gesticulatory password used to enter the caves where Mass Service was held. If you did not perform this gesture, you did not enter. Any other reasons that you hear are all made up simply to cover for that fact that very, very few people knew of its origin. Craig Riley Facebook.

  • Bah - here is my recommendation for you whose hearts are anxious about getting the scripture right or whatever: 1) Give thanks to God, 2) Put your books down, 3) Pray that you may forget yourself, and 4) Reach out to love others.

Jesus left the desert empty - and, in his emptiness, full of love. When you make the sign of the cross, if you must make the sign of the cross, think of it as a big X. "May there be no 'me' - but only may God live in and through me."

  • To me catholicism makes so much more sense than oter forms of Christianity (my father is a vicar in the Church of England). I want to convert but do you think God differentiates?

  • @ASFX07 god bless you and your journey

  • @ASFX07 I often wondered that myself. Ultimately I think God cares about your heart over all else. However, if you have learned that the Catholic Church contains the fullness of faith, along with the true lineage of the Apostles (necessary for valid sacraments, according to Ignatius of Antioch) then you ought to be obedient and convert. God will hold us accountable for what we've been given.

  • 6 reasons why we make the Sign of the Cross. 1. A Mini-Creed 2. A Renewal of Baptism 3. A Mark of Discipleship 4. An Acceptance of Suffering 5. A Two-Edged Move against the devil. 6. A Victory over the flesh

  • Thank you, SCDVO

  • Protestants have right not the Catholics!

  • @Sonny0612 Protestants are heretics, anti-christian (they go against Jesus), and their movement shall perish.

  • @ChrisDaron Really ? Thats why your mum are so fucked she didn't learn you somthing

  • @Sonny0612 HUH??

  • Great summary! God bless you!

  • I take the bus all of the time and that is exactly what I do when I go by the church (The Blessed Sacrament) and I see alot of other people doing it too , thanks alot for this video.

  • the main thing I have against the cross sign is that it looks like an inverted cross when most catholics do it

or how the guy did it in the video which looks like the cross of baal

  • Okay you are being legalistic.

Saint Peter was crucified on an inverted cross. and the power of the sacrifice of Christ would conquer anything that the cross of baal may have stood for. Plus its about the faith in Jesus going into making the sign, not if the bottom of the cross is longer then the top, or if they are equal in length.

  • the crucifixion didn't happen

  • I love God and i promise not to say bad words! God bless you

  • I'm Catholic, but I use three fingers to cross myself. I prefer the Orthodox hand position.

  • Is that a bong on your dresser?

  • sunday school on youtube, church is anywhere you learn

  • in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti

  • Another part of the Bible where this is mentioned is in 2 Corinthians 13:14 "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you." Keep up the good work man and may God continue to bless you and your family.

  • great video man really helped me keep the faith up in the Lord Jesus Christ, as for Father, Son and Holy Spirit it is true. In the Bible Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus says "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

  • Thank you for the informative video. I'm United Methodist and our bishop spoke to us about making the sign of the cross and the significance and I was looking for more information.

  • Bless you and Thank you for this video.

  • We need more people like you .

  • Glory to Jesus Christ!

  • Firstly, I am not giving cult to the stars (Job 31:26-27).

Secondly, we are no longer under the Jewish Holiness Code.

Thirdly, according to your interpretation of Scripture, tetraplegics are not permitted to pray.

Fourthly, God revealed Himself as the Holy Trinity. (Matthew 28:19),

    Fifthly, God bless you!

  • Yes we are to keep the law of God (1 John 5:3) and that is the entire law. Jesus is the God of the Old Testament, it is he whom appeared to Moses and Abraham (1 Corinthians 10:4, John 8:56-58) and Jesus is the old whom gave us the Old Testament law code in the first place...

Jesus came to reveal the Father, it is the Father whom Jesus came to declare (John 1:18). Jesus has always been the one whom mediates from man and he is our creator (John 1:3).

  • Notice Genesis you read "God said" which is the Father and "God made" which is the Son.

The Holy Spirit is not a person. God is a Family of 2 Persons (Father & Son) as shown in John 1:1 with the Son=Word and Father=God of which the Son is also in the God Family...

We are invited to be partakers of his same divine nature (2 Pet 1:4) to become part of the God Family (Eph 3:14-15). The Holy Spirit is not a person but the power of God and Gods very nature (Jn 4:24).

  • The Macedonian heresy is dead and gone, child. The words you speak are all dead words with no power to sway, because they have not the power of Truth in them.

Christian discipline is in the working of harmony. You have been led astray by false teachings, and it is lamentable. Hopefully you will find rest for your soul within the Truth.

  • Oh, that was @BibleGodsWord7.

SCDVO is a worthy and honorable witness to the workings of Christ. Keep up the good work!

  • Its nothing like the Macedonians Heresy. They believed there was a time Jesus not exists which is False!

Both God the Father and God the Son always pre-existed. Secondly Holy Spirit is not a person. Paul mentions his letters address Father and Jesus & not Holy Spirit.

  • One of their contentions was that the Holy Spirit was not a person. Their heretical teaching is the reason why the Nicene Creed added: "We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life... Who with the Father and the Son is equally worshipped and glorified."

I'm sure you know that is what I meant, but you wish to be evasive. Very well, be evasive.

  • Yes the Holy Spirit is not a person. It is the Church whom adopted the Heresy of calling the Holy Spirit a person. Read your bible, see that Paul never once gives greeting on behalf of the Spirit as it is not a person but only on behalf of the Father and Jesus

In the beginning was only the Word and God (John 1:1) and God is Spirit. The Spirit represents his nature (John 4:24).

  • BibleGodsWord7: At the end of Matthew Jesus refers to Father, Son and Holy Spirit as equal and distinct yet one: Go therefore and k make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that p I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. The Trinity is expressed beautifully in this verse: three distinct but not separate persons in one nature (Jesus says name not names).

  • In Mat 28:19 is not a formula for nature of God or of trinity. If you see the other verses that make this clear.

In Acts 2:38 Peter baptised in name of Jesus and they RECEIVED the Holy Spirit

At baptism, you enter into a personal family relationship with God the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit, partaking in Gods divine nature (2 Peter 1:4)

  • (cont'd) In addition, Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as HE not it. For example, John 15:26: "But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me"

  • Bible refers to Holy Spirit with God's divine power (Zechariah 4:6; Micah 3:8). Old Testament Scriptures, have never defined the Holy Spirit as anything but the power of God.

Paul in 2 Timothy 1:7 calls it the spirit of power, love and a sound mind

In Luke 1:35 Gabriel called it the power of the Highest and Luke 4:14 also connects the spirit with power

  • In all writings of the New testament the apostles only give greeting from the Father and the Son and never from the Holy Spirit, check it for yourself

    Romans 1:7, 15:6; 1Cor 1:3; 2Cor 1:2-3, 11:31; Gal 1:3; Eph 1:2-3, 3:14, 5:20, 6:23; Phil 1:2; Col 1:2, 2:2; 1Thes 1:1, 3:11-12; 2Thes 1:1; 1Tim 1:2; 2Tim 1:2; Tit 1:4; Phil 1:3; 1Pet 1:3; 1Joh 1:3. 2:1; 2Joh 1:3; Jude 1:1

  • Is it not then strange that all the verses of the New Testament listed above not mention the Holy Spirit, never once is greetings given by the Holy Spirit because its not a person

If the Holy Spirit was a person then whom will be Christ's Father be? As Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Mat 1:20) then the Holy Spirit if it was a person will be Jesus Father but never once Jesus calls the Holy Spirit Father cause it is not a person

  • But honestly, your tiny proof-texts and assertions contradict 2000 years of Orthodox and Roman Catholic belief. What makes you think you're right? Don't you know that it was the Church of believers who wrote the Holy Bible under inspiration from God? You deny God and the Apostles' mission for your belief. If you truly believe in Christ and the authority given to His Apostles on the day of Pentecost, then you'll recall 2 Peter 1:19-21 and realize you are in error.

    God bless.

  • Yes you are correct, it does contradict Orthodox and Roman Catholic beliefs but why? Why does the Word of God say something different to what Churches teach. I simply showing you what the Bible says on the topic and not presenting my own opinion.

2 Peter 1:19 is saying that even though Peter himself was eye witness and saw kingdom of God (see verse 18) he uses the Word of God over his own eye witness! So should all peoples. Word of God is above all (See Psalms 138:2)

  • My previous comment ("But honestly, your tiny proof-texts...") is directed at BibleGodsWord7 and is a continuation off my first comment ("You say:...").

  • @BibleGodsWord7:

You say: "Paul in 2 Timothy 1:7 calls it the spirit of power, love and a sound mind."

To that I say: You're wrong. This "spirit" is not "the Holy Spirit." Paul is admonishing the faithful to remain faithful; to maintain a spirit (to be of one mind with each other) of power and love, unashamed in their faith in Christ. (continued...)

  • There is only one Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17, 12:13; Ephesians 2:18, 4:4)

  • In addition a reference to HE does not make it a person

Secondly the word HE in Strong's is same word can be he, it, the other (same), selfsame, that (same, very) (See G1565)

In Proverbs 1, wisdom is described as a she? Does that make wisdom a person?

1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

    No Holy Spirit mention here?

  • @BibleGodsWord7: How about 2 Corinthians 13:14? I see Holy Spirit mentioned there.

  • The verse says "communion of the Holy Spirit, with you all" it simply is saying that we are all unified one body and on spirit because we partake of the same nature of God as Peter says in "2 Peter 1:4"... Again this does not say Holy Spirit is a person

  • I myself am Orthodox and well versed in Catholicism so am speaking from experience.

Jesus warned that the religious teachers at his time teach tradition over the word of God nullifying what God actually teaches. This is true today (Matthew 15:3, Mark 7:13, Colossians 2:8)

How much of what we believe is actually tradition or word of God? Why does both Orthodox and Catholics stress tradition? I challenge all people to read you bibles and prove what you believe

  • Show me the sign of the cross in the bible

As for tetraplegics you do what you are able. The exception does not define the rule.

If you can lift you hands to pray then you should as ordained by God Holy Word. Jesus warn about people worshipping him in vain following traditions of man and not the commandments of God (Mat 15:9). If God Word say one is to pray lifting up holy hands then you should instead man following man made traditions

See 1 Tim 2:8, Ps 28:2 and there are many more

  • In Jesus Name, God bless my firend

  • Well said.

  • @SCDVO To be more accurate, non-Jews were absolutely never subject to the Jewish Mitzvot, or Holiness Code, from the very beginning. That was God's Covenant with the Jews, and God's New Covenant, with Christians, is different.

  • Kissing the hand is mostly done by Mexicans and Americans in southern california or Texas.

  • @BibleGodsWord7 in addition to this revelation 14:1 states 1And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

  • @BibleGodsWord7 PWND

  • @BibleGodsWord7

Great. The Lutherans found the internet.

  • @davidhier I don't think this guy is Lutheran... he denies the Trinity! :/

  • @agentjs09

Woops, you're right. I really shouldn't be bashing Lutherans anyway, I just heard a Lutheran preacher argue about what it means to be catholic and I was in a bad mood.

  • @BibleGodsWord7 then where does the Holy Spirit come into play? Did Jesus just make that up?

  • @ajatkinson2004 I did not say the Holy Spirit does not exists. I said it is not a person, it is the power of God, his very nature.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @BibleGodsWord7 yeah but you specifically said there are two aspects, the Son and Father. I am wondering what you understanding of the Holy Spirit is. I believe it was always present, but not on Earth until the day of Pentecost

  • @ajatkinson2004 yes there are 2 persons Father & Son as Stephen saw just before he died (Acts 7:56). The Spirit is power of God represented throughout the bible as water, fire and wind. It was avaliable to a few in the Old Testament (Ex 31:3, Num 14:24, Ps 51:11 etc) but not until Christ is the Spirit will be avaliable to everyone (John 7:39) for it will be poured out on everyone which is yet to be fulfilled and will be fulfilled in the ressurection (Ez 37:12-14, Heb 8:10-11, Joel 2:28-29)

  • @BibleGodsWord7 yeah but Jesus said in John 16:8-9 "Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment" Sounds like another person to me.

  • @ajatkinson2004 To make any doctorin take ALL the verses from the beginning to the end on the subject and see what it says on the matter...

In the Greek the word "he" can be translated "it". In some verses it done ok like Ro 8:16 where says "The Spirit itself" instead "The Spirit himself". This is a big topic but look at Paul greetings in every letter like Ro 1:7 where he sends Grace & peace from Father and Son and never once from Holy Spirit

  • @BibleGodsWord7 the Holy Spirit indeed is a person. The Holy Spirit is the love between the Father and the Son, this love is so grea that indeed it becomes a person.

  • @BibleGodsWord7

The Holy Spirit is indeed a person. It is the love between the Father and the Son. This love is so great that indeed it does become a person!

  • @BibleGodsWord7 if you believe all of these poison doctrines, then I assure you that you are A: in a VERY small minority, B: in defiance of all orthodox teachings of catholics, eastern orthodox, and even most protestants, and C: in need of a serious reality check. The kiss mentioned is for someone else to kiss your hand as kings do, secondly Levite priests can't mark their body (we arent jewish priests), and 3rd and 4th is so stupid I won't even go into it except to say re-read the bible.

  • Just wanted to say "Very good" thank you

  • Thanks be to God!

  • SSWEEEET

  • Good educational video. Making the sign of the cross is a catholic christian thing to do, catholic in a wider meaning: it is a also orthodox, anglican and lutheran custom to do it.

  • Interesting , thanks for sharing

  • I am very glad you found it interesting!

I am at your service for any question that you might have concerning the Catholic Faith.

  • I do believe your index finger, middle finger, and thumb should be touching each other while your other two fingers are folded in like your making a fist...

  • That is one way of doing it. you're right.

  • lol yeah...I didn't realize it until the other day when I was at a mass, but people do it all different ways. It's kind of funny

  • That's the eastern way,

    such as:

    Greek Catholic

    Greek Orthodox

    Syrian Catholic

    Syrian Orthodox

    Maronite

    Coptic

    e.t.c

  • Opression, Hypocrisy, Brutality.

That's what Christianity is about ^^

For fuck sake, not every fucking christ believes in charity, just the real lovers, not the hypocrits.

Religions have been important in former times because of their impact on the people:

    A positive mindset.

If we all go to heaven, there's nothing to worry about, right?

You're a nerd. Go und pick up women, that's more fun.

    Greetz

  • Oppression, hypocrisy, and brutality.

True, these three sins, among others, have unhappily been present throughout the history of the Christian Church. There's no reason to deny this. I myself have been guilty of miserably falling into the traps of hypocrisy. But, please tell me, what do you think these facts prove about the Church?

What other objections do you have against Christianity?

  • Well, dude, of course, religion makes sense.

It provides hope and a meaning in life, but hey, I don't hate anybody for his/her religious beliefs.

In my opinion religion is a crutch for people, who can't get through life on their own. The major problem of Christianity is the hypocrisy.

What do ya think about the film "Deliver Us from Evil"?

    Have a nice day, mate.

  • I am glad to hear that you do not hate anybody for his/her religious beliefs; that is how it should be with all of us.

I am sure that many people view religion ultimately and uniquely as a relief to the pain and afflictions that they experience throughout their lives on earth, but in my opinion, the Christian "religion" is far more than that. To me, Christianity is first and foremost about truth, reality. Truth, consequently, is what brings relief and meaning to our sufferings, not religion.

  • In my opinion, the film "Deliver Us from Evil" vividly and convincingly proves, among other things, that sin is a reality; yes, even in individuals belonging to the Christian Church. This film, in addition, reveals the ugliness, and the extremely damaging effects of sin.

I do not think, however, that this film proves Christianity false. In fact, I think that it merely proves what the Catholic Church solemnly teaches in regards to man's fallen nature.

    Peace.

  • in the opening of your video you make the sign of the cross, then kiss you hand. You never address why you do this. Why do you?

Also why do you put your index finger to your thumb and extend your last three fingers? Is there some significance?

Last question, this is just hypothetical, say my friend was being forced by terrorists to engage in intercourse, without a condom, with a prostitute who might have herpes. Should he make the sign of the cross over his crotch area?

  • I kiss my fingers because I make a small sign of the Cross with them; so, I am kissing the Cross, really. It is a traditon amongst Latin Americans to do the Sign of the Cross in this way.

"He" shouldn't have intercourse, even if "he" was being forced to do it.

  • I hope you are not planning on teaching theology, religion or catechism because it took you ten minutes to spit out a lesson that should only have taken three.

Not to be overly critical...I'm just saying-

  • I think that you are definetely right, to a certain extent, of course.

I think I should spend less time introducing the lesson so as to get to the point faster. Keep in mind, however, that this was my first video ever and the first time I ever "preached".

I think that practice will make me a better "teacher", don't you think?

  • why?why?why?

  • Sign of the cross:

    Spectacles, Testicles, Wallet, Watch

  • I am portraying the role of Bernarda Alba in Federico Garcia Lorca's play "The House of Bernarda Alba". She is Catholic and your video is helpful in the history of this ritual. In the play the sign of the cross comes at the end of a Funeral Mass for my husband Antonio who has just died. I am a Presbyterian but have many Catholic friends. I wanted to know more so I would be believable in this moment in the play. Thanks for the information. It's a beautiful and spiritually rich history.

  • Eulatamp:

I am very glad that my video was informational for your purpose. I also wish you the best of luck in your project. It also makes me very happy to know that you have many Catholic friends. I think that that is how it should be between all Christians. I pray that one day we will all be ONE!

If you are really interested in expanding your knowledge about the history and spiritual/theological meaning of making the Sign of the Cross, I would recommend reading Bert Ghezzi's book.

    PEACE!

  • heres a question that no one has ever been able to answer for me-when catholics cross themselves, why do they go from the left shoulder to the right shoulder? if someone could answer this question, i would appreciate it very much. :)

  • Peace be with you tamandocomando!

Actually, not all Catholics cross themselves from left to right. For example, Eastern Catholics cross themselves from right to left, like the Orthodox. Latin & Coptic Catholics do cross themselves from left to right, however.

As to the two different sequences of the gesture, Pope Innocent III said the following:

    CONTINUED...

  • "This is how it is done: from above to below, and from the right to the left, because Christ descended from the heavens to the earth, and from the Jews (right) He passed to the Gentiles (left). Others, however, make the sign of the cross from the left to the right, because from misery (left) we must cross over to glory (right), just as Christ crossed over from death to life, and from Hades to Paradise."

If you are still not satisfied by the answer, please let me know.

  • actually, this is the most thorough explanation ive ever recieved. thank you very much for clearing this matter up. peace be with you too :)

  • You're more than welcome.

BTW, I see that you live in Chicago; that's cool, I live in Chicago too :-)

  • nicely put i am not a religous man but i felt this very touching

  • Nerspal,

Thank you for your kind comments. I am so very glad that you liked the video.

    Peace be with you.

  • thanks for the info brother. Very informative. Peace and God Bless.

  • good job and keep up the god work person-who-i-most-definitely-do-not-know :D

  • Good video man, i'll keep a watch out for your videos keep the faith alive :)
