This is my favorite group. I love how they can put a new spin on old songs. Not necessarily this sing but others they give a "signature sound" to sound great. Man, Tim Duncan was awesome. Too bad he's not with the group. Ian Owens is going to be great too.
@Swff521. U obviously dnt like good gospel music. Your right cathedrals are the best but ehss is my second favorite group. Besides the cathedrals no other group sings this song better.
Anybody know why tim left the group? Ehss's new bass is definently not as good as tim. I dnt even think ian can get as deep cause when they sing step into the water they had to raise the key cause ian couldn't get low enough.
i find it funny how some guys don't even look like they are bass singers, they look like tenors or something and then they sing and you are blown away by how deep they can sing! especially when you see a very young bass singer......

Tim duncan is great but i agree with you i sing low but nothing like this but when im singing bass i have too be still because if not i lose my breath
bigmrclean-your arrogance is amusing. I love how you come up with the 90% and 99% and hold yourself as the incredible exception, like we're unworthy of your opinion. Now when he sing with the cathedrals he sang with 2 old schools. Their wasn't no dancing and hopping around or any other bullcrap that went on then or george woulda kicked his ass out. Point blank. Then he did his job and did it well, and I enjoyed hearing him a lot back then.
If you are half as good as you say you are, it saddens me to hear such closed mindedness. Part of using Gods gift is being humble and I just don't see that here. I truly hope God doesn't take his gift away. Different tastes are what makes us individuals and I am sure that these guys have reached many souls in their spreading of Gods word in music. Don't judge lest you be judged.........

If you woulda looked at my page before you posted a response you would've seen I had videos. If you dont have videos then you dont need to say anything about anyone. I've seen these people in person and met a lot of them and more than half of it is a big show...they do it over and over and over and over then they change it up a bit and repeat that several times. If they saddens you then im sorry thats how the professional business is. A lot of them drank and party and carry on. Rude awakening.
I sing and use the talent that God has given me not to impress anyone or make them think any different. I couldn't care any less what anyone in this world thinks about me. I hope to plant a seed in someone's mind about God. One day I hope to play banjo professionaly and I will one day, I'll be doin the same thing I am now then playing for the glory of my lord and savior! Pride is exactly why satan got casted outta heaven, I dont put anyone down to make anyone look better. To each his own.

Concert is one word, I can see how much you and the other girl know's about music. Like trying to talk football to a soccer player. Not even on the same field. Like I stated before, there's more talent in bluegrass and bluegrass gospel than southern gospel will ever see. Southern gospel has went down hill about like all the other music. J.D sumner, george younce, all the good ones are dead and gone, and its not the same without them people. I see just fine, I know exactly what she was posting.
these are professional talented singers, degrading them will not make you sound better , maybe post your songs on youtube and we will compare, although one needs to direct glory to God as one of the things the Bible says is God hates a proud look. in fact pride is why lucifer fell from heaven. btw I still love these guys songs
Look these guys are obviously very talented or they wouldn't be where they are. And my videos are on you-tube and have been. I wouldn't even consider posting a text comment otherwise. A lot of singers are for the show and not the word of God....mostly professionals. I've met them and i've met some that aren't. I can tell in about 5 minutes. I've been doin this a long time and music is the best way to spread Gods word. I just dont care for the dancing around on stage. That's my opinion is all.
were do I look Iwant to hear some of your songs. one thing to remember when we stand before God on judgement day no one will be dancing about as the bible says NOT EVERY ONE THAT SAYETH LORD LORD SHALL ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD. sobering
Poor "bigmrclean" , what a sad sap. Speaks in hyperbole, had his feelings hurt, has to ridicule others and he adores himself, both personally and musically. I am grateful for EHSS for bringing back a fresh yet old and familiar gospel sound. Wow, I'd even wear a leisure suit if I could sing like that.
oh oh praise the lord 4 what they are doing.y cant ppl just praise the lord in a happy way like the bible is talking sooo much about.?i have proof if u dont believe me
I love these guys too! My kids love them as well. It's hard to find music that a 13, 11 and 7 year old all like along with their parents! EHSS have brought us all together to listen and wathch their videos. Watching my 7 yr old daughter dance to their video's is such a blessing.
If you dont' like them then don't watch it or listen. They are reaching so many people with their music, people who would otherwise not listen to Christian music.

That's all good and dandy, I hope they do reach people. Anyone who has a taste for music and understands it can see that this is nothing but a show and people showin off. I've played gospel and bluegrass music for over 20 years, and music has definantly went down the toilet. When they used to gather all around one microphone and stand there and sing, THAT'S music.
IMO that's an insult to anyone who disagrees with you. I have a taste for music and understand it. I"ve taken vocal lessons and sing myself. Not every one will like the same music, and if you don't appreciate their style then you do not have to watch or listen. I don't care for bluegrass or rap so I dont' listen to it,that does not mean those artists do not have talent to reach people either. These guys are doing what God gave them a talent for and are rejoicing in doing it. That's awesome IMO!
bluegrass or rap? WOW, I'm glad you put those in the same category seeing as how they're so close. Rap is crap.. There's more talent in bluegrass and bluegrass gospel than southern gospel will ever see. And if God called them to jump around like a bunch a monkey's tryin to impress the audience then yes I guess you are right. I've seen this in person i've seen in on tv i've seen it 1000 times its like they all carry the same act and do the same movements. It's a shame how much actually is show.
I'm guessing you don't like the Oak Ridge Boys either then... I'm not sure why you think this dancing is new in gospel music. Music is still very much alive, my friend.
Perhaps you are unable to read and interpret-she wasn't putting bluegrass and rap in the same category, she was stating two types of music she doesn't like. "rap is crap"? And you are who? I don't believe I've attended one of your con certs. Poor thing.
You're always invited to any of my concerts. I play somewhere at least once a weekend so if ur in SC or NC come on by! You probably don't even know what bluegrass is and you're one of these halfwits dancing around listenin to this contemparary music who can't play the radio much less an instrument. When you can sing, play the guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo and about anything else then you can be in my league and we can conversate about what's what. Until that happens sit infront of PC and dream.
Conversate? Did you mean maybe converse? I mean it's slang and all but I assumed you were above all that. I'm sure it's a typo. You clearly are quite the professional - maybe even a schollar. I can tell by your clear and thoughtful comments. Maybe with all the time you have to spend with all those instruments, your tour bus driver or plane captain writes all your corespondence. Just super dupper you are so succesful. Thanks for sharing the biggest part of you.......uhh, your views and life! :)

I love the harmony and sound of EH&SS, but I don't appreciate their mixing dance routines with powerful gospel songs. Are people coming to see them for their look and dance, or are they coming to hear the name of God Almighty lifted up? I was hoping EH&SS wold stay true to the Southern Gospel way. - L5, Greater Vision, Mark Trammell Trio, Gold City, etc.
I love this group. I think they are doing a wonderful job reaching people for God. For the people who can't get passed the hair, What is the problem? I am an 18 year old college student, and in my opinion the hair, dancing, and showmanship just makes them seem more human. How else are you going to get young people to listen? If they come into a concert wearing the old suits, and barber shop haircuts, they will be known as just another group. I think as long as they praise God, they are fine
Carnvilamouse, how superficial can you be. These guys are doing a wonderful job in spreading Gods word. Would it make a dirrence if you were blind? These guys do a wonderful job. God bless them.
Man George Younce will be missed. He was an amazing singer. Tim does a wonderful job with this song!! They are a great group and sound great on the Together DVD with the Gaither Vocal Band. You should check it out.
i like there sound i can say they were tha second best singing quartet after the cathedrals...because ernie was also there......but if you have read the biography of George Younce on Wikipedia and some other info's and videos of the cathedrals....you will be disappointed like me too because i don't like their variations of Trying To Get A Glimpse and the hair of Ernie i most like His old hair in the old times.....i hope u understand.....i'm speaking as a Christian.....:-)

I am also disappointed that the devil is corrupting legions of youth through Ernie's hair. Tim's two tone wingtips also need to rebuked by the holy spirit if he values what is righteous and holy. Signature Sound might as well be called Ernie Haase & the No Values Quartet.
Rebuked by the holy spirit? I suppose you didn't like Guy Penrod's hair either? Get a life. You are probably bald anyways... I assure you that hair is the last thing God is concerned about...
See how after the key change when they repeat the chorus, Ryan and Ernie switch parts for a short time. Ernie is singing lead after the key change until he passes it to ryan for 2 lines. Gotta listen or u won't take notice.
I am new to gospel quartets having found my way here from what was originally a love of "praise" music. I found Ernie Haase and SS because of the Gold City video about their CD. So, I listened to some Ernie Haase. This group is phenomenal. I loved everything of theirs that I've watched. I'm now off to try to find some of their CDs.
i'm from germany and i once saw a posted vid from the cathedrals, that's how i found this group,it's really amazing...i'm sadabout germany not having something like that, weonly have the wise guys...i hope i can see this group anytime in the futur live!!!
man, just listening to Ernie on this river, makes me wonder just how his voice holds up...i can sing his part for only like a minute before my voice gets too tired...i suppose i'm just not singing correctly. :(
You know, I just listened to both george and tim sing this. I started the recordings simultaniously and the result was remarkable. There were very few parts where i could tell the difference and i know both of there voices VERY well. Astounshing how close tim is to george in style. Great voices. Just great.
Maybe because George took Tim "under his wing" and schooled him. Both groups are awesome but I was raised on the Cathedrals. George and Glen had a style that was unique! I listen to both groups nearly every day.
Same here. i was raised on cathedrals as well but i also like both very much. But now that the cathedrals are gone, its good to know that a great group like this is keeping SG music going
This is one great job on a great song written by my all time favorite bass singer, Jim (Big Chief) Weatherington. These guys seem well worth the trip to see. I think it's just wonderful that a younger generation loves the same "Ole Convention" songs of yesteryear! Thanks and keep 'em coming!
I fell in love with this song when i heard the great George Younce sing it and i'm telling, you he comes closer than any other person i've ever heard. What an amazing man... I just love Tim and his similarites to George bring back precious memories. RIP George and I'll be seeing you in heaven. And Tim, keep doing your thing man. God Bless
This is the song that got me interested in Ernie Haase & Signature Sound. There is nothing more I like in a quartet than a strong and rich Bass voice such as Tim Duncan's. While George Younce and J.D. Sumner brought the Bass to life in The Gospel Quartet, Tim continues to represent now that George and J.D are gone.
It's actually amazing (almost ironic) how Tim sounds almost identical to how George did. I honestly wouldn't know the difference if this got played on radio. Ironic is how how Ernie is George's son in law (in case you didn't know already, hahaha).
Wanna hear an amazing bass? Go to the Accepella site and listen to, Roll Jordan. That guys great, he tries to get too low at the end. He rattles the speakers at that concert!!!!!!!
That was Gary Evans...there's a video of them singing "Roll Jordan Roll" live... and he was only about 20 at the time he sang that. He's no longer with Acappella. He slides down really low at one point, but only for effect. He ends that song singing an E1....the last E on the piano.
Is he singing with anyone now? I'd love to get some of his music. He tryed to go too low t one time, but he ended the song in fine style. I love bass singers, George Younce is probably my favorite.
To my knowledge he's not in a group now...he got out a couple of years ago, got married and they gave birth recently...I've heard him in concert back in '04...I'm telling you, when he slid down in THAT concert, he went below the piano, and it was pretty stout...his youtube recording was not his best, but okay nonetheless...something of note...Evans has a good upper register and can sing a decent lead...he'll be better as he ages...
Thanks for the info. I'll keep looking for his stuff. He's got an amazing range. He can do the lead then switch back and knock the bottom out of it.....
This guy Tim Duncan reminds me of Younce at times...I'm not saying he sings just like him, it's just that he reminds me of him, especially when he sings "I'm" as well as his lowest notes. There's so many good basses out there...it's INSANE!
After the Cathedrals retired, Ernie began looking for others to start another quartet. ounce helped him alot. When ernie decided on his group, younce mentored Duncan, thus the similarites between the two.
I just bought they're DVD and CD bundle and i caint wait to get it. These guys are the greatest. Ernie is one of my favorites and Tim Duncan can just knock the bottom out of it. Again great job if lifting the Lord's name in Praise
I LOVE all of the old southern gospel songs like this one. I'm so glad that they are doing a lot of the oldies! Watching them is a lot like watching "Hovie Lister & the Statesmen" back in their youth. And no I'm not that old. I have some of their early videos.
This energetic group is one of the best acts in Gospel music .Each person a talented vocalist and they make gospel music fun! I would love see them perform andmeet them someday.
just seen them in concert on the 14th.got to meet them and talk to them before and after.they are so nice especially to my five year old son,he was amazed that they took time to talk to him.we're seeing them again july 19th.
ernie haase was a tenor for the cathedral quartet (a great southern gospel quartet) and he put this group together about 3-4 years ago and did a fantastic job! keep up the great work, and let's hear that song....AGAIN!
Tim Riley, the best bass singer I've personally heard! Quality and Quantity! Can nail a low F...heard that on the internet! NO tricks to his singing either! Most bass singers that sing really low have surgery or use other methods! Richard Sterban second..George Younce third.....
I've listened to a lot of quartets and I've never heard anybody as good as these guys!! I could listen allllllllllllllll day!

I see just fine, I know exactly what she was posting.
bigmrclean 2 years ago
these are professional talented singers, degrading them will not make you sound better , maybe post your songs on youtube and we will compare, although one needs to direct glory to God as one of the things the Bible says is God hates a proud look. in fact pride is why lucifer fell from heaven. btw I still love these guys songs
2505672345 2 years ago
Look these guys are obviously very talented or they wouldn't be where they are. And my videos are on you-tube and have been. I wouldn't even consider posting a text comment otherwise. A lot of singers are for the show and not the word of God....mostly professionals. I've met them and i've met some that aren't. I can tell in about 5 minutes. I've been doin this a long time and music is the best way to spread Gods word. I just dont care for the dancing around on stage. That's my opinion is all.
bigmrclean 2 years ago
were do I look Iwant to hear some of your songs. one thing to remember when we stand before God on judgement day no one will be dancing about as the bible says NOT EVERY ONE THAT SAYETH LORD LORD SHALL ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

When they used to gather all around one microphone and stand there and sing, THAT'S music.
bigmrclean 2 years ago
IMO that's an insult to anyone who disagrees with you. I have a taste for music and understand it. I"ve taken vocal lessons and sing myself. Not every one will like the same music, and if you don't appreciate their style then you do not have to watch or listen. I don't care for bluegrass or rap so I dont' listen to it,that does not mean those artists do not have talent to reach people either. These guys are doing what God gave them a talent for and are rejoicing in doing it. That's awesome IMO!
Christinacdob1974 2 years ago
bluegrass or rap?

MrRebel354 2 years ago
Perhaps you are unable to read and interpret-she wasn't putting bluegrass and rap in the same category, she was stating two types of music she doesn't like. "rap is crap"? And you are who? I don't believe I've attended one of your con certs. Poor thing.
raftindave 2 years ago
You're always invited to any of my concerts. I play somewhere at least once a weekend so if ur in SC or NC come on by! You probably don't even know what bluegrass is and you're one of these halfwits dancing around listenin to this contemparary music who can't play the radio much less an instrument. When you can sing, play the guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo and about anything else then you can be in my league and we can conversate about what's what. Until that happens sit infront of PC and dream.
bigmrclean 2 years ago

I think as long as they praise God, they are fine

i like there sound i can say they were tha second best singing quartet after the cathedrals...because ernie was also there......but if you have read the biography of George Younce on Wikipedia and some other info's and videos of the cathedrals....you will be disappointed like me too because i don't like their variations of Trying To Get A Glimpse and the hair of Ernie i most like His old hair in the old times.....i hope u understand.....i'm speaking as a Christian.....:-)

You know, I just listened to both george and tim sing this. I started the recordings simultaniously and the result was remarkable. There were very few parts where i could tell the difference and i know both of there voices VERY well. Astounshing how close tim is to george in style. Great voices. Just great.
victoryopop 3 years ago 7
Maybe because George took Tim "under his wing" and schooled him. Both groups are awesome but I was raised on the Cathedrals. George and Glen had a style that was unique! I listen to both groups nearly every day.

Sumner brought the Bass to life in The Gospel Quartet, Tim continues to represent now that George and J.D are gone.
staindson 4 years ago 3
It's actually amazing (almost ironic) how Tim sounds almost identical to how George did. I honestly wouldn't know the difference if this got played on radio. Ironic is how how Ernie is George's son in law (in case you didn't know already, hahaha).

Wanna hear an amazing bass? Go to the Accepella site and listen to, Roll Jordan. That guys great, he tries to get too low at the end. He rattles the speakers at that concert!!!!!!!
choosdad 4 years ago
That was Gary Evans...there's a video of them singing "Roll Jordan Roll" live... and he was only about 20 at the time he sang that. He's no longer with Acappella. He slides down really low at one point, but only for effect. He ends that song singing an E1....the last E on the piano.
randyjsing 4 years ago
Is he singing with anyone now? I'd love to get some of his music. He tryed to go too low t one time, but he ended the song in fine style. I love bass singers, George Younce is probably my favorite.
choosdad 4 years ago
To my knowledge he's not in a group now...he got out a couple of years ago, got married and they gave birth recently...I've heard him in concert back in '04...I'm telling you, when he slid down in THAT concert, he went below the piano, and it was pretty stout...his youtube recording was not his best, but okay nonetheless...something of note...Evans has a good upper register and can sing a decent lead...he'll be better as he ages...
randyjsing 4 years ago
Thanks for the info. I'll keep looking for his stuff. He's got an amazing range. He can do the lead then switch back and knock the bottom out of it.....
choosdad 4 years ago
This guy Tim Duncan reminds me of Younce at times...I'm not saying he sings just like him, it's just that he reminds me of him, especially when he sings "I'm" as well as his lowest notes. There's so many good basses out there...it's INSANE!
randyjsing 4 years ago
After the Cathedrals retired, Ernie began looking for others to start another quartet. ounce helped him alot. When ernie decided on his group, younce mentored Duncan, thus the similarites between the two.

Ahh...makes sense....thanks.
