i do love this ship.... if i remember they have two ships of the same class still in servise. its a musium ship but they are on reserve fleet also if us is invaded they are to act as long range artilery ... they carry biggest guns in the fleet. :D
Actually no. All 4 Iowa class ships have been removed from the NVR.. Naval Vessel Registry.. Meaning they arent owned by the US Navy anymore. But per congress in 2006 they ARE to be maintained and can not be altered in anyway to prevent them from combat effectiveness if they were to be recalled.
So its nice to see the Mighty Mo getting some love.
I think what they are doing in the video is moving the ship so they can paint under the support blocks. In other words, when it was high and dry, they painted the hull...except for under the blocks it was sitting on. Then they re-floated it and moved it slightly so they could paint under the previous support blocks. Just a guess.
@Robkat3751 This is the dry docks at Pearl Harbor across from where the USS Missouri will be berthed near the USS Arizona memorial on the old battleship row.
You will be able to walk on board the Missouri from the dock then take the boat out to the memorial of Arizona.
the only american ship i love is the north carolina....nothing else

What a beauty!!! It's so sad when they decommission vintage boats & planes that served so well when we needed them.

Question does the MO still have her steam turbines and can she sail by her self without being towed which is not fitting to the old girl to be towed.

we need to recommission ships like the iowa class so if we want to put them in harms way we dont have an incident like the USS cole

Cool, but um, what was the point of this video? Either way, Iowa class battleships are beautiful no matter what the scenery.
